Chapter 13

Drake was already seething from the repeated provocations, but Jack signaled him to stay calm as he scrutinized the woman. She clung to a handsome man, the two of them acting all lovey-dovey. "What are you looking at? Did I say something wrong?" the woman snapped arrogantly. Jack didn't say anything and quietly looked away. He only stared at the woman because she seemed familiar, though he couldn't recall where he had seen her before. "Hmph, you two cowardly and pathetic lowlifes, get out of the way, or I'll have my husband teach you a lesson!" the woman sneered as she arrogantly approached Jack, shouting arrogantly. Jack's expression darkened. "This path is wide enough. Why should we move aside? You're being unreasonable." "Reasonable?" she sneered. "You lowlifes don't deserve any consideration. Do you think just anyone can come to the Dragon Crest Estates sales center?" "Better leave before the security kicks you out!" she kept berating them. "Darling, don't waste your time with these bums. Let's go check out the house you want," the man beside her finally spoke. She immediately became flirtatious, planting kisses on his face. "Thank you, sweetheart!" She suddenly pointed to a mansion at the top of the hill. "I want that one!" The handsome man's face froze. 'Is she kidding? Even she said the city's richest person couldn't afford that mansion. I am wealthy, but nowhere near that level!' She whispered something in his ear, and the man seemed to understand. "Excuse me, miss, could you show us the house?" he called to the estate manager nearby. "Of course, sir, I'd be delighted to," the manager replied with a bow. "We'd like to see that mansion," he said, pointing to the sole estate at the hill's peak. The manager was about to explain that the house was already sold when the man discreetly slipped her some bills. Her face lit up. The tip was worth a month's salary, so she quickly agreed. "Okay, I'll give you a tour." 'It should be fine just to look. Even though it's sold, the owner just took the keys and probably wouldn't move in a short time,' she thought. Jack and Drake watched silently, curious about what the couple was up to. The woman swaggered up to them, flaunting her big buttocks in a repulsive manner. "You two lowlifes are in luck. I'll let you see the top of the hill. Consider it a treat." Drake's face darkened, ready to retort, but Jack's glance stopped him. "We appreciate it," Jack said calmly, interested in their game. Soon, the four, led by the manager, reached the mansion at the top. The place was magnificent. Covering over ten thousand square feet, it occupied the prime spot on Dragon Crest. It boasted front and back gardens with a pool, and a spacious rooftop terrace with an expensive telescope, and the interior was equally luxurious. Most impressive was the state-of-the-art smart home system, capable of managing all needs in a word. The manager dutifully highlighted the estate's features, even though she knew this was a charade for the tip. If it weren't for the tip she had received, she wouldn't have bothered wasting her breath. "See this? This is what real wealth looks like. You two losers think you can afford this?" the woman snickered mockingly, her hand covering her mouth as she pointing at Jack and Drake with a sneering gesture. Jack turned to the manager calmly. "Could we see the inside?" At his words, the manager and the couple all hesitated. Before the manager could respond, the woman snarled, with her face twisted into a loathsome scowl, "You filthy hobos have no right to set foot inside. You'd dirty the floors. You're meant to be the trash at the bottom, how dare you dream of such things." Jack remained unbothered by her vitriol. Drake sneered. "Weren't you the one who said we should broaden our horizons? We've seen the exterior of the villa, so why can't we go inside? Or is it that you can't actually afford this villa and just came up here to show off?" "Bullshit!" she screeched, like a cat that had its tail stepped on. "What I do isn't your business, you two scumbags! Say another word, and I'll have security throw you out!" "Since when is Dragon Crest your private property? What right do you have to kick people out?" Drake countered, amused. The woman was momentarily speechless and then clung to her husband, whining with coquetry, "Honey, look at them bullying me! You have to stand up for me!" The man, visibly uncomfortable, but to appease the woman, signaled the manager again. The manager, understanding the signal, approached Jack and Drake, sternly, "Will you f**k off on your own, or must I call security?" "Are you sure you want to do this?" Jack asked, smiling coldly. "Are you deaf? I said get out!" With that unfriendly word, she reached for her communicator to call security, Just then, Jack glanced at Drake. Understanding immediately, Drake took a smart chip from his pocket and inserted it into the identity recognition machine at the villa's entrance. Instantly, the mansion's lights illuminated, and a soft melody played. A pleasant female voice announced, "Welcome home, Mr. Steele. I am your smart home assistant, Yoyo. Delighted to serve you." The manager and the couple were stunned, disbelief etched on their faces. "Wha-what's happening?" the manager stammered. The couple stood frozen, equally shocked.
