"Who the hell wanna die?" the bald brute shouted.
Everyone turned to see that the one who stood up to rescue was Michael, not Jack, who had been specially taken care of by Ms. Wilson during high school and had served eight years in the military. This made the them look down on Jack even more, and even Lily felt a twinge of disappointment.
"Do you think you can hit my teacher at will?" Michael boasted, enjoying the admiring looks from his classmates, especially from Ms. Wilson and Lily he had adored since high school. Now, finally, he had a chance to boost his image in their eyes.
Just as Michael was about to say something more, the bald brute punched him in the face, sending him sprawling to the ground.
"Bang, bang, bang!" The brute continued to pummel Michael's face until it was a bloody mess, teeth scattered on the floor. Michael whimpered, no longer able to speak.
Spitting on Michael, the brute sneered, "You're nothing but a loser, thinking you can mess with me? Do you know who I work for? The Yates family's Patriarch, one of Wyndcrest's elites!"
Hearing "Yates family" made everyone freeze in fear. Michael, in particular, was filled with regret. He was a hotel manager, but he was in no position to confront the Yates family.
"Who exactly are you?" Ms. Wilson demanded.
"I'm your husband's creditor!" Baldy grinned wickedly.
"My husband?" Ms. Wilson glared at him. "We divorced a year ago. His debts have nothing to do with me!"
"Doesn't matter," Baldy shrugged. "He owes us two million, and now he's disappeared without a trace. All he left was your contact information and photo. If we can't find him, we'll find you."
Ms. Wilson turned pale. Before she could react, Baldy grabbed her arm, trying to drag her away.
"What are you doing?!" Ms. Wilson screamed.
"Using you to pay off his debt, of course! What else?" Baldy laughed, his eyes leering at her perfect figure. As Ms. Wilson was dragged out of the room, someone shouted, "Jack, aren't you a soldier? Go save her!"
Lily grabbed Jack's sleeve. "Jack, Ms. Wilson was so kind to you. If you can help, you must save her!"
Jack remained silent, sipping his wine.
"Forget this ungrateful coward. Ms. Wilson was so good to him, but now he doesn't even have the courage to stand up!"
Many classmates started cursing Jack. "He's a coward! A shame to the uniform!"
"I'm ashamed to be his classmate. Let's call the police!"
Just as Lily pulled out her phone to call, Jack suddenly spoke. "You'd better not to call the police."
"What did you say?" Lily couldn't believe her ears. "You don't dare to save her, and now you won't even let us call the police? You're so disappointing, Jack."
Back in high school, Lily had a crush on Jack. Despite his introversion and weakness, he was incredibly smart, always topping exams. That's why Ms. Wilson took special care of him. Lily, uninterested in rich kids, was fascinated by Jack's unwavering spirit despite being bullied.
But they missed their chance before she could confess. She was genuinely happy about this reunion. However, she didn't expect his behavior to be so different from what she had imagined; he was like a completely different person.
"Lily, don't listen to him. Call the police now!" another classmate urged. "Any later and Ms. Wilson will be in danger!"
Lily nodded, but before she could dial, the door burst open again.
A disheveled man with a sinister grin and a knife entered. "Who want to call the police? Step forward!" Lily quickly hid her phone.
The man toyed with his knife, threatening, "If you tell me who it was, I'll only punish one. If not, you'll all pay." With a wide grin, he pulled out the knife and advanced towards the nearest person.
Terrified, the classmate pointed at Jack. "It was him! He's Ms. Wilson's favorite student. He'd be the first to call the police!"
Everyone quickly backed this up, directing the blame at Jack.
"That's right! It was Jack! He insisted on calling the police!"
"I can also prove that we all said we couldn't afford to provoke Baldy, but he wouldn't listen and insisted on going against Baldy!"
"He's always been a troublemaker!"
They all lied, except Lily, who felt deeply guilty. Jack had warned them not to call, likely knowing someone was outside. Yet they misunderstood and cursed him. Now they were framing him. That was not right!
She wanted to defend Jack, but the girl next to her tightly pulled her back, signaling her not to cause trouble.
The man walked up to Jack, pointing the knife at his head. "Put out the hand you used to call. I'll only cut off one finger."
"I suggest you put the knife down. I don't like being threatened," Jack said calmly, setting his wine glass down.
The man laughed, "Ha! And what if I don't? What will you do about...?"
Smack! Crack!
Before he could finish, Jack slapped him, spinning his head around 180 degrees, leaving his eyes bulging in death.
The room fell silent in shock.
