I awoke the next morning alone. My wedding hair was a mess. I sat up and looked around the room. A servant girl was arranging a outfit for me.
“Oh my lady!” She turned and jumped at me sitting up. “Good morning.” She bowed to me.
“Good morning, you don’t have to bow.” I said wrapping the sheet around me and sliding out of bed.
“It’s the customs miss.” She said still bowed. “Sir Charles instructed us to draw you a bath this morning.” She said as I walked over.
“Thank you, I will take that now. What is your name may I ask?” She hesitated.
“Miranda miss.” She looked at me.
“Miranda, will you help me with my hair before I go in?” She nodded And helped me pick all the little flowers out. I got into the nice warm bath and relaxed. Miranda walked in with towels.
“Call if you need miss. I will be in the room waiting to help you dress.”
“Thank you Miranda.” I said as she bowed and left the room. I laid there relaxing for a moment. I watched out the window. I heard the door open and looked over. Charles approached me.
“There’s my wife!” I smiled at him.
“Good morning!” I said to him as he approached. He lean down and gave me a kiss.
“They’re serving breakfast soon. I just wanted to make sure you’re up.” He said touching my face. I leaned into his hand.
“I’ll finish up and be right down.” I said to him and he smiled.
“I’ll see you down there.” He walked out and I finished scrubbing up. I started to get out and Miranda approached and helped me into a towel.
“Thank you Miranda. You’re too kind.” She followed me into the room and started getting me dressed into my dress. A soft pink dress with red accents. It was nicer then any dress I had owned. She quickly did my hair and I went down. I wandered around for a moment not entirely sure where to go. A butler was walking by and I stopped him.
“Excuse me sir but where do I go for breakfast?” I asked.
“This way miss.” I followed him into a small dining area. Luna Hera was talking to Alpha Drake. Charles stood when he saw me.
“There you are!” He walked over and took my hand.
“I apologize! I got lost!” He kissed my cheek, leading me over and pulled out my chair.
“Good morning dear! How was your night?” Hera smiled and I smiled back.
“Exactly how I imagined!” I said to her.
“Very good!” Alpha Drake said. “We we’re discussing out retirement. Luna Hera would like you to start training tomorrow. The sooner we get your training done. The sooner you can take over.” I looked at Charles and he nodded and then looked to me with a smile.
“I can’t wait until we know each other better my dear!” Luna Hera said. A few servers brought in our breakfast and sat it in front of us. I wasn’t even sure what I was looking at.
“It’s a omelette.” Charles said looking at me examine it. Being from a poor family we mostly ate porridge or left over things for breakfast.
“What’s inside it?” I asked and they all looked at each other.
“Meat my dear.” Hera said. They all watched as I cut a piece and took a bite.
“Oh wow that’s delicious.” I said and they all smiled and went to eating. After we were done Charles asked if I wanted to go for a walk in the garden. I accepted and we bid our farewells to his parents.
“They seem nicer then I have heard.” I said to him as we walked out into the cool crisp air. Winter was upon us.
“Don’t worry, you will sit in on the requested audiences soon. You will see why people fear them.” Charles said helping me over a rough patch in the path. I watched as the leaves fell from the trees. I lifted my hand and moved the wind watching the leaves dance. Charles stopped and watched me as I played with the leaves. With a gust of wind I blew them off into sky.
“Sorry I was having just a little fun.” I giggled and walked back taking his arm.
“Is it true you can control all the elements?” Charles asked.
“Yes. It’s scares people so I don’t do more then one element often.” I said.
“You can do more then one at a time?” He asked and I stopped and let go of his arm. I lifted both hands. In one I ignited a flame and the other I formed a ball of water. Then I flicked my wrists. I dropped the water and put out the flame. Charles stood in awe.
“That is amazing.” He walked over and held my hand. “Our children will be powerful beyond our belief.” He said. I laughed.
“That really didn’t scare you?” I asked.
“Not at all. In fact I’m excited for our future!” I felt relieved. It was the first time other then my parents that someone didn’t treat me like I was a freak. I couldn’t help myself and I lunged at him embracing him in a tight hug. He almost lost balance and hugged me back.
“What is this?” He laughed rubbing my back. I let go and looked at him.
“I’m sorry it’s just, most people think I’m some kind of freak.” He moved my hair from my face.
“Sometimes when people don’t understand something, it can be scary. Instead of learn about it, they cast it away as strange or odd. I’m not that kind of person. I see your value.” I pulled him down and kissed him. No one has ever been this nice to me. He looked at me and smiled.
“Come on, let’s go.” He said taking my hand again and heading further into the forest.
