Innocent cry

The next morning , Sarah had woken up early as usual to prepare breakfast and finish heruse.

She didn't really expect Glen to come out early but this time she had stayed too long in her room. So, Sarah went to her room to check up on her.

"Glen....are you okay?"she asked moving her two fluffy hands round her neck and head to check her temperature. "Oh no ! Your temperature is high. Your body is becoming sun- hot ".

Let me call the midwife. Meanwhile , Glen despite her fever was shaking and had grabbed her blanket very tight.

"I have sent for midwife. She might be on her way by now".Sarah said to Glen then she went to the kitchen to make her some coffee.

Mr. Akins had also gone to get her some herbs to reduce her fever .

Sarah had brought in the coffee for Glen she assisted her to take the coffee then, Glen held on to her hAkinsnd whispered into her ears "it is time.

My time is almost up . I have two days left please do not forget your promise."

Sarah's mood changed immediately. She became very emotional. Soon, Mr. Akins entered the room with the herbs which he had prepared.

He sprinkled the one he had made into liquid on her and gave her some to drink.

He put some of the leaves on her head to help reduce the body temperature. Sarah had run out to fetch some towels when Glen whispered into Mr. Akins' ear "take care of my daughter".

He got confused and a moment he gazed at her. He breadth on it then continued with what he was doing.

A knock was heard on the door. Sarah rushed to the door . luckily it was the midwife. She went straight to Glen's bed to administer her medications.

She Sarah a list of items she they will need during her delivery period.

The midwife massaged Glen after her temperature had gone down. She sedatives to help her rest.

The next day, Sarah finished her domestic duties, assisted Glen in taking breakfast, served her husband and rushed out to the market to get the items on the midwife's list.

On her way, she see an aged lady from a distance approaching.

As she moved closer she saw she carried a heavy log on her head. She greeted the old lady and she responded.

She was a bit surprised when she saw the old lady with the log. "Grandma ...please if I may ask why do you have such a heavy firewood on your head?"

The old lady answered"I am a widow. I leave alone and have no one to help so I do everything all by myself." "Oh sorry grandma ! Please permit me to help you with the log at least to your house gate"Sarah said feeling remorsed." Thank you very much my daughter."

Sarah carried the firewood on her head while the old lady lead the way. They walked about four kilometers before they got to the aged woman's place.

It was a very small isolated place and you hardly see people around. Sarah wondered in her mind but never asked.

She dropped the the log in front of the old lady's hut. As she set off to leave , "come my daughter"the old woman voiced. "Come ...sit with me for awhile. " "you must be from this town " the lady assumed. "Yes please "Sarah answered.

The old lady beamed. Then she continued "a special gift shall be unleach into your household. Cherish it , take good care of it for it us the answer to your long time prayers".

Sarah was indeed surprise because she knew exactly what the old lady was talking about.

But she wondered... how?. Who is this woman and how did she know ?. But she chose not to ask any questions.

Instead she said "thank you ma ! I beg to take my leave." "Go well my child and thank you for your help. May the almighty God bless you and your next generation to come"the woman said while she goggled at Sarah.

Then Sarah left in a puzzled state. Now had returned from the market. She into Glen's room to check up on her.

She came into the kitchen and started preparing super when Mr. Akins budged into the kitchen.

He said "Sarah my dear ....can I have some minutes of your time. I want us to have a discussion." Sarah sat with her husband leaving all she was doing behind. "Thank you".

He uttered."hmmm....where do I start from? Glen wants us to prepare for her burial." Sarah was quiet for sometime. And for a moment she cried. "Alright but let's do that tomorrow please. I can't see myself doing that today.I have no strength for it today"she said to her husband.

It was time for super. Sarah served their food on the dinning table. A sound of a knock came through, but it seemed no one heard.

Well....the second knock made its way through and luckily it caught Mr. Akins' ear. He rushed to the door to see who had come to their house at that hour.

It was just the midwife. She had come to check on Sarah and also make sure the items she demanded was intact. She entered Glens room and sat beside Glen on her bed. She did her normal routine checkups on her. Glen told her she is having contractions since earlier this morning.

The midwife told her she deliver at least by 4am midnight. She prepared everything necessary for her delivery.

Then she Mr. Akins and his wife she will be back by 3:30am midnight and she left. Glen couldn't have a good sleep because of the pain from her contraction.

It was almost 4am the midwife had not yet come. Her contractions was increasing.The clock is ticking, sweat rushed down her face ,it is almost 5am.

She was going through pain, and she could not stand still. It seemed her breadth was quenching.

Soon the midwife came in "sorry I'm late"she uttered."please help me put her on the delivery bed."she sought as she wore her gloves.

She massaged her belly in circles until Glen was ready to push."Now Glen push! ...push....push...!.....ok breathe in now push....push ... I can the baby's head . Glen push harder...push...last one ...push.... Oh...thank the gods we made it..its a girl!."

A loud cry is heard. Mr. Akins and Sarah rushed to the room in excitement."Aww....such an innocent cry from such a cute baby "Sarah said in amazement as her two warmth hand rapped around the baby.

She continued " Glen my dear look at your baby" then she placed the baby on Glen.

Glen put her hand on her daughter " May our ancestors bless you ,guide and protect you all through your life time". She uttered as she breathe her last breadth.
