AVYANNA COSTELLO Note: the song i was listening to while writing this song is Hate You by Jordi, y'all should definitely listen to it I woke up to the sound of pans clattering and that was the worst idea I could ever have because the minute I opened my eyes, my head felt like it was being trampled by a thousand elephants, in that moment I had never been more grateful that it was a Saturday and that meant I didn't have to go to work. I sluggishly got out of bed to pee and wash my face. In the bathroom, I decided to just bathe and get it over with, dressed in clean, comfortable clothes my headache went down a smidge but it still hurt like a b***h. I walked out of the room to find out the source of the noise, I found my best friend Ariel moving gracefully around the kitchen and humming lightly to herself and even though I had known her for a long time, it never ceases to amaze me that she could drink like an Irish the night before na d wake up as prim and proper as a damn princess. It was like the word hangover didn't even exist in her dictionary. I sat down at the counter and she placed a steaming cup of coffee with extra milk with a plate of toast in front of me. I sipped the coffee and moaned in delight "This is why I love you", she just laughed as always and replied me " you say this everytime","well to be honest, I'm not supposed to thank you since you're the one who came up with the crazy idea to go clubbing and dancing the night away drunk instead of curling up on the sofa while watching a good movie and enjoying a delicious pizza and yet here you are with the grace of a vogue model while I look like someone that has just been run over by a truck". She just shook her head at my rant and went back to whatever she was cooking After a while of comfortable silence, she placed a hot plate of eggs and bacon in front of me. Taking a bite out of it, I could have sworn I had entered a food paradise. I mean I can cook but Ariel takes the cake, well she did have a culinary degree and also worked as a chef in one big restaurant but still every time I ate her food, it felt like I was in paradise. I didn't know how starving I was until I had tasted the food, I finished it in record timing. I wanted to go back to my bed and sleep the whole day away but alas it seemed the universe was against me when I heard my phone ring, I picked it up and heard my mother's lovely voice ( note the sarcasm) . She ordered me to come see her at home immediately before dropping the call. I love my mother but it seemed every time she called she needed one thing or the other. I changed into something more presentable before bidding Ariel goodbye and hailing a taxi to my parents house. When I got there, I walked in and wasn't surprised to see my dad sprawled out on the couch,I'm pretty sure he was high, I walked further into the house and stepped into my parents room and noticed my mother sitting on the bed obviously waiting for me, I sat on the chair in front of her and wasted no time for pleasantries " what do you want mother" she tipped her noise high and replied me " now now is that anyway to speak to your mother, maybe you've forgotten your manners, do you need a reminder" , I scoffed and answered her " mother, let's not act like you give a s**t about my manners, I have things to do and places to be so let's skip the small talk and go straight to the point, again I ask mother, what do you want". She sighed and got to the her reason of calling me " well I just wanted you to know that the money you sent for upkeep has run out and there is nothing in the house, and our light bill is due tomorrow". My fury skyrocketed " what do you mean by that, this "upkeep" that we're talking about, I gave it to you just last week and now you're telling me there's nothing in the house, what the hell did you do with that much money" , the pounding in my head just got louder and worse with each word I uttered., while my fury grew as she searched and failed to come up with a reasonable explanation. I stood up and started searching the drawers and cabinets,"what are you doing" she shrieked , I ignored her continuing my search, she kept shrieking and complaining but I payed no notice to her before I found what I was looking for under her pink pillow, a bag of cocaine. I turned to her with my anger fully evident in my face " really, all these years of none of you being a responsible parent to me yet I work my ass of just to provide for you and make sure you are comfortable and don't lack anything even if it is at my expense, I am at your every beck and call, you ask for one thing and i make sure I get it for you even if I have to bend myself over to do it but you never hear me complaining, you've never called to ask how are you doing today, every time you call is to ask for one thing or the other but I never complain about it and here you are wasting my blood and sweat on a price of s**t that gives you a high for what 2 hours at most" I shook my head as angry tears came rushing down. I was about to walk out of there when she stopped me "what of the money, are you going to send it". I should have known she was heartless at this point. " from this point on ward, you can fend for yourself, erase it from your memory that you ever had a daughter, I don't know you and you don't know me". With that being said I walked out of there without looking back once. I should have done this long ago but I don't know why I kept wishing and thinking that for once they might even care about me. I didn't want to dwell on that at the moment, what I wanted was to go home and sleep because Lord knows it has been a stressful day.
