Prologue:
The sun cast a warm glow over the park, casting long shadows across the lush green grass. Children's laughter and the distant chirping of birds filled the air as the scent of blooming flowers wafted through the breeze.
Eden sat on a bench, his eyes fixed on the swings as he pushed his niece, Sophie, higher and higher. His mind was elsewhere, though, consumed by the weight of his recent divorce and the suffocating atmosphere of his in-laws' constant disapproval.
As he gazed out at the park, his peripheral vision caught sight of a figure walking towards him. The man's messy brown hair and bright blue eyes stood out against the tranquil backdrop of the park. He was carried by an air of quiet confidence, his stride purposeful as he approached the bench.
Lucas, lost in thought, hadn't noticed the bench was occupied. His eyes widened as he took in the sight of Eden, who was now smiling at Sophie as she squealed with delight. For a fleeting moment, their gazes met, and the air seemed to vibrate with an unspoken connection.
Sophie, sensing the sudden tension, stopped swinging and looked up at her uncle with wide, curious eyes. Eden quickly broke the gaze, focusing on his niece as Lucas hesitated, unsure of what to do next.
The silence between them was awkward, but not uncomfortable. It was as if they were both aware of the unspoken understanding that had just passed between them, though neither dared to acknowledge it.
Lucas cleared his throat, breaking the spell, and nodded at Eden. "Sorry to intrude. I was just... enjoying the view."
Eden smiled, trying to brush off the feeling of being seen. "No need to apologize. We were just... enjoying the park."
As they stood there, the world around them seemed to slow down, and for a moment, it was just the two of them, suspended in time. But the moment passed, and Lucas quickly looked away, continuing on his walk, leaving Eden to wonder if they'd just shared something more than a simple hello.
