CHAPTER 42 As they downed their cups of coffee and pieces of toast, Jack and Bobbie went through a mental checklist to be sure they had everything packed up for their day in court. When they headed off, Mickey was still in bed. They met Miles and Carl on the front steps of the courthouse and went inside. Once in the courtroom the two lawyers and Jack set up camp at the table on the left facing the judge’s bench. Miles took a seat in the gallery behind them. Joining him in the gallery were several members of the press, including Hank and Wendy of the Examiner. He also noticed Tim Mathews, an alderman and one of Randall Davies’s associates, who was there undoubtably to keep Randall apprised of any significant developments in the proceedings. The gallery’s seating was soon totally occupied.
