As soon as the judge concluded the court’s business for the day, Bobbie headed off to the parking lot. On the way, she turned her cell phone back on and noticed she had a missed call from Miles, which had come in a few minutes before. There was no voicemail. She hopped into her car. As she set off for Mickey’s house, she called Miles.
“I see I missed a call from you. What’s up?”
“Are you on the freeway?” Miles asked in a muffled voice.
“Not yet, why?”
“Just pull over and we’ll talk.”
She nervously pulled off the road, knowing the talk would not be about anything good.
“Okay. I’m parked. What’s happened?”
“Bobbie … Mickey passed away. I’m so sorry. When I got back to the house, I found him unconscious. I called the paramedics and … well, there was nothing they could do. H
