CHAPTER 31 The smell of burnt toast and scrambled eggs filled the room. Jack lay on the bed staring out the window. His eyes were burning. He didn’t sleep much. He forced himself out of bed and headed into the kitchen. Molly greeted him with the usual squeal and rapidly wagging tail. He wondered how dogs could be so eternally cheerful. The answer was simple: because they didn’t have people problems. “Sleep well?” Mickey inquired. “Not really. I keep running over in my mind the question of how the evidence they found got onto my computer and into my desk.” Miles walked into the kitchen.
