Chapter 3. Maya

Present Day

"So Tonya, are you happy with the final draft of the menu and the final sketches of the venue layout?" Maya asked her client who will be getting married in 2 months to come. Maya was an event coordinator, and did catering services where she was the head chef also. So, she was currently providing both services for Tonya.

" Happy I'm relieved I hired you everything is going according to plan, all looks good that I wish I was the bride already" said Tonya with excitement

" I aim to please you," Maya said, smiling

" So I already did the down payment, so expect the final payment before the end of today. Unfortunately, I have to run now duty calls," said Tonya, standing up, and they were in a restaurant.

" Thanks Tonya, so from today we will be probably be meeting every week to finalize everything and if the bride wants to change her mind on anything to address it and do any changes required also" Maya said hugging Tonya goodbye.

" Great then see you then Maya " as she left Maya's phone rang, looking at the phone screen seeing that it's her best friend Lisa she smiled shaking her head

" Hey girl, what's up?" Maya answered

"Hey, what are you up to?" Lisa said, walking down the corridor of the hospital. She was a doctor, a pediatrician.

" Just had lunch with a client to finalize a few things, and you?"

" At the hospital about to leave though we still on for dinner?"

"Don't see why not,"

" Okay, then let me finish my rounds. same place at the same time?"

"Yes, see you then bye,"

They hung up their calls. While Maya was paying the bill, her phone rang an unknown number from outside the country. Wondering who could it be, she decided not to answer the call, thinking it could be sales people. She was done for the day, so she decided to check out if the dress she always wanted is still available. She got to the store. Luckily, the dress was still available

" Hey, I will be taking this," Maya said to the store lady

" Are you not going to fit it, miss?"

" oooh no I know it will fit" Maya had the perfect body with the right curves and when she bought clothes she hardly went to the fitting room cause she never had problem with the sizes she was size 8. Most of the time, she did her shopping online.

" I see what you mean. You have a perfect body miss,"

" Thank you. I will use cash for payment. "

She paid for her dress, and when she was about to leave her phone rang again the same number but still she decided not to answer. 'This person must selling something serious and persistent ' thinking to herself. She just brushed it off, putting her phone back in the bag.

" Here we go miss, thanks for your support, and I hope to see you soon," said the store lady with a smile

" Oooh, I will come back. You have beautiful clothes. I almost bought more than what I came here for,"

She left the heading to her apartment. On her way, she was busy wondering who was calling her. The traffic to her apartment wasn't bad, she parked her car underground, took out her shopping bag, and locked her car. At the elevator, she saw her neighbour.

" Hey Jason,"

"Hey, shopping again,"

" What do you mean by that?" Maya said, giggling

" Is still shopping, doesn't not mean if it's not delivery ain't shopping," Jason said, ushering Maya into the elevator.

" Oooh, such a gentleman, you ladies first," Maya said, touching her chest and laughing

" Hey, I'm always a gentleman to you,"

True to his word, Jason was good neighbour always fixed minor things in her apartment if Maya asked for help, and he was not even interested in her. Sometimes, they would even house-sit for each other if one of them wasn't around.

" So what's the plan for tonight?" Jason asked. Normally, they would hang out together, share meals.

" Well, I have dinner with Lisa, wanna come?"

" I will pass, thanks."

" Okay, now you have to tell me. You never wanted to hang out with me if Lisa is around. Why?"

" Do I need a reason on why I don't want to disturb a girls outting or night out?"

" Do you like Lisa?"

" Oooh my god, not this again." they arrived at their floor and went to Maya door.

" Cause you know she is single,"

" And you are also single," he said with a questionable look

" Are you saying you like me instead?"

Chuckling " Maya, if I liked you, you would have known a long time ago. Enjoy your dinner. " he hugged her and left for his apartment. Maya got into her apartment checked at the time, she has two hours before the meeting with Lisa. Her thoughts went to Jason

' He is not bad looking, but nah, I wouldn't date him. He is already like a brother to me, but him and Lisa would be good for each other. Lisa never liked commitment, and Jason was kinda the same even though I never saw a girl in his apartment that's strange, though. We have been neighbors for 4 years now and no girl, is he gay but still no guys just his male friends. let me get ready for this dinner '

She took a shower instead of a bath, decided to wear long knit dresses, and tights inside and sneakers with a long maxi jacket it was a winter season almost coming to an end. As usual, no makeup, just put on makeup powder, only tied her hair in a bun. She decided to Uber since she didn't know how much she would drink. The Uber arrived and she went to the restaurant. She sent a w******p to Lisa

To Lisa: Hey, I'm on my way to the restaurant, you coming from the hospital or your place.

From Lisa: Hey, I'm already in a Uber, didn't want to drive cause I know you with alcohol and I'm off duty this weekend, hopefully. And I went home first

To Lisa: Are you sure it's me who you are talking about referring to the Alcohol ???. I also took an Uber knowing how you get with alcohol ??? so will see tonight who drags us to the club. Plus, it's weekend off

From Lisa: not going to comment ??? I arrived,how far are you?

To Lisa: I'm here

They arrived at the same time. Hugged each other for greetings and entered the restaurant holding hands and giggling over something.

" Table for two non-smoking please," they said it jointly and laughed

" This way," said the waiter, ushering them to their seats

" We don't need your drink menu. Please bring us your dry red bottle of wine with a jug of water. Please hurry, we are thirsty, " said Lisa

" And who is going to get the other one drunk?" Maya said, giggling

" Shut up. I had a stressful week, and I hope I don't get emergency calls. otherwise, I don't want to even think about it, " Lisa said, putting her hands on her cheeks

" Wanna talk about it?" Maya asked touching Lisa hands that were on her cheeks

" No do you want to talk about work?"

" Hell no. We are getting drunk tonight b***h no work "
