The Choosing was a week long interview with different test for each skill. Each member of the Order had a chance to interview as they see fit.
Our parents came out and my mother titled her head “what took so long for you to get here? What did Luna do?” My mother is very sweet and loving but when something didn’t go to plan her first thought was always me.
“Nothing I just had” Michelle was thinking of a way to put that made sense to everyone. Doors don’t lead you to where you are not needed. It was unheard of a door not working properly.
“I wanted a milkshake after today. I’m sorry mom I didn’t know we had a party waiting on us. Next time I’ll ask before taking up Michelle time.” I said with a wink to my sister. Even at the age of 20 I still feel the heat from my mothers stare. She will never say anything in front of company but I know the ear full I’ll get after they leave.
“Shall we all” my mother stares me down more, “come inside.” She opens the door inviting the member of the Order in with us.
Michelle grabs my arm, still with the look of confusion, we wait back for the other to go in. Once inside we can hear our mother offering snacks and tea.
“Thanks I owe you one.” Michelle says still dazed
“No worries I wasn’t gonna let you fall in front of everyone.” I said proudly. If anything, I was my sisters safety net. Although she never needed it before. I was proud I could help her like she helped me so many times.
“I don’t understand why my door lead me there, we don’t deal with werewolves or other mythical in fact.” She shook her head
“Now not the time to talk of things, once they leave we will meet at our spot and figure this out.” I said confidently
Once everyone was in the house and drink served the older witch began to speak “ as you know the choosing is around the corner, however this year we have all decided to wait.” She said.
“There is too much going on with the mythical that we would rather wait another month to begin” said the vampire
“Ah yes too many issues for us to pick correctly” the demon added on.
“So you came here to tell us you won’t be back until the next month?” I asked
“Luna don’t talk back to the Order!” My mother glared at me
“No need to make a fuss, we just waited Michelle to know that she has a month to prepare for the choosing” our great aunt said. She was a member of the Order.
“Thank you members for your time and the forewarning. I’ll take this month and brush up on everything.” Michelle said with a nod
As everyone leaves and the house is quit again. I make my way upstairs to my room 3 am is written on a sticky note. I looked down at my watch it was just midnight. That gave me three hours to relax. I showered quickly, then braided my hair and placed light makeup on. It took me 20 minutes and I was headed out.
Down an alley to a dumpster I knocked 5 times, the door opened “password “
“ I swear Jimmy you don’t open this right note we will have issues” I threaten him. The door opens and the club is full tonight.
“Jeez Luna all you had to do was say the password, not that hard.” Jimmy was 7 feet tall bouncer for the club. He looks means with a scar running down his face but, he was a teddy bear deep inside.
“Jimmy how can you ask your most loyal customer for a password? You should know what I look like..I’m kind of hurt.” I give his the most innocent look I could come up with at that moment.
“Luna, you know the rules, how will keep humans out if I let every pretty girl in without a password”
“ ugh my heart.” I put my hand over my heart
“Ya ya just no fights and no dancing on the table tops.” He said at me while I walked in I replied with a wink
I walked into the club right a the beat dropped. My heart beat syncing up with the bass. I walk up to the bar pushing pass two vampire in a death stare.
“ shots allot of them in short amount of time.” I yell at the bar tender. He nods and sets out ten shot glasses. When he adds brown liquor to the ice and shakes, my body starts rocking to the beat.
“Look boys we have a dog that wag with the beat.” A man looks at me with red eyes and his friend all have reds eyes. Demons are annoying they think just cuz they can get human anything they are the top. I grab him by the neck and pull out my dragged that is blessed my some amazing witches.
“Last time I say this to you, I am no dog. No one here is. Say one more thing to me before my drinks and it will be you who I’ll be sending back to the underworld.” I smile sweetly as I released neck
“You angels are so touchy” and with that he walks away.
By the time I have had a nice buzz going On I see the time and rush back home. It was 2:30 am giving me enough time to change into pj and make way to our spot.
Our spot was a lake that was so smooth it reflected the stars in the sky. Once in the lane you don’t know if you were floating with the stars or on water. I remember coming here at a young age with my grandmother so took us here for training and interconnect with our powers. We were gifted with the ability to heal anything, travel though any object, fly, see other lives with touch and some had the ability to control human minds, speed, strength and a one had the ability to bring back a soul.
Michelle was her already.
“Still going to that dive bar I see.” She stated
“Guilty as charged” I replied “so anyone follow you?”
“No and you?”
“ No” I answered “So what happened with your door?”
“ I can’t figure it out. While you were out I look at ever book about the doors. They all said the same thing I’m need therefore the door brought me there” She said confused
“ but they didn’t want you there hell I don’t even know what was going on but it was clear we were not welcomed. Have you tried since.” I asked. She shook her head no, “well now that we are alone try it again.” She started to summon a door. This time when we went through we were in the forest.
As we walked into the thick branches we came to a clearing. In the clearing was the lane we just met out.
“ I don’t understand.” Michelle broke down crying. My sister never failed. She always understand every lesson, every task she could do with no trouble.
I went to comfort her placing my hand on her back bring her in for a hug. As I did that we both head a twig snap. We snaps out head to the noise seeing nothing but two glowing eyes. I pulled my sister behind me ready to face whatever it was. Who ever those eyes belonged to they were gone. I summoned my door and pushed Michelle back in shutting the door. Whatever was here wasn’t getting my sister.
