Diana found herself truly looking forward to the weekly meeting of the Ladies’ Wagering Whist Society. Living in the same house with her mother was stressful. Diana was trying to run the household as she normally did, but kept finding her mother had given the staff her own contrary instructions. Diana just didn’t want to deal with it.
Escaping for a few hours into Lady Norman’s game room to lose herself in silly gossip and a good game of cards was just what the doctor ordered—or would have, had Lord Colburne known of her predicament, Diana thought with a little laugh.
