Isaac’s POV
Mila had left to go back home, I missed her so much already, I’d never let her leave my side if I had it my way.
I had felt a pang in my stomach a while ago, I knew it was from her. I could feel that she was anxious and scared, f**k that Tyler! He scared my mate! He better keep his temper in check around her, otherwise I can’t be held responsible for killing him.
I couldn’t get her out of my head, I wanted to know if she was alright but I didn’t want to text her again, she would think I was weird. I could call Devin, he’s her friend.
“What’s up, Alpha?” Devin answered.
“Hey Devin. I just uh wanted to check in on Mila..she made it home ok?” I asked, which threw Devin in a laughing fit on the other end.
“Wow! You’re one lovesick puppy aren’t you? Yeah Mila is fine, her and Tyler aren’t talking. You’re probably happy to hear that though!” Devin said laughing.
I was happy to hear that, the quicker he can disappear from Mila’s life the better.
“So you’re pretty close friends with her Devin?” I asked him. Devin was silent for a bit and then he started to stutter.
“Why do you sound panicked, Devin?” I asked in my Alpha voice, heat started to rise from my face.
“I never touched her, I swear!!” Devin said nervously. I believed him.
“Alright. So how close are you with her?” I asked firmly.
“I’ve known her pretty much all my life, she works with me as a lifeguard.” Devin said honestly.
“So it wouldn’t be weird for you to hang out with her..say if I asked you to keep an eye on her to protect her, she wouldn’t realize what you were doing?” I asked, trying to sound the most casual that I could, but Devin still started to chuckle, he stoped quickly though when I let out a low growl.
“I’ll guard her with my life, Alpha.” Devin said admirably.
“Oh and Devin..there’s something else I was meaning to ask you.” I said.
“Yeah?” Devin asked.
“At the campus packhouse, you told me that you had a feeling that Mila would be my mate..what did you mean?” I asked him curiously.
“A few years ago, I was running up to meet you at the clearing to give you the security report from the town, and I found you two deep in eachother’s gaze.” Devin said.
What?! I don’t remember this.
“What?! When?” I asked puzzled.
“Like I said, it was a few years ago. I think you were 18, but she wasn’t so you didn’t realize she was your mate. You were in wolf form in the woods and she was laying down in the clearing. I don’t think she could see you, but she was gazing in your direction and you were staring right back at her. I questioned her afterwards what she was doing alone in the woods at night and she told me that she felt almost compelled to go that night, like she was pulled. I kinda put two and two together. I’ve been trying to convince her to distance herself from Tyler in the most casual way possible. I think it’s working.” Devin said.
Wow, I couldn’t believe what he just told me, Devin acted like such an ass sometimes but he really was a decent guy. So I have seen Mila before? Surely I would remember her beautiful face..so a few years ago at the clearing?
Ohh..
I do remember. It was just after my 18th birthday, I had gotten into a heated fight with my girlfriend Gia and my brother told me to cool off and take a run near the town. I was to meet with Devin, there had been a few vampire sightings in the area and we had to make sure the town was well protected. I ran in a crazed fit, f**k I was mad at Gia. I had been going out for a while with her, she was pretty and nice most times, far too much into her looks for my liking but whatever. She wanted me to challenge my brother for the Alpha position, I told her my brother was doing great and I would never do that to him. She just wanted to be a luna, I told her she wasn’t my mate so she would never be a luna regardless. She punched me in the face and I lost it. My brother walked in at the right time, my wolf almost took control to kill her right there.
I ran angrily to the clearing, hunting a few squirrels and rabbits to appease my rage. When I got there, I could hear a women sobbing lowly, I approached quietly and I couldn’t help but stare at her. She looked so sad, she was laying there with her beautiful shiny hair spread all around her head. The moonlight shined perfectly on her, highlighting her face..her tanned skin, her plump lips, and the way her eyes shined almost green in the moonlight was mesmerizing. She sat up and stared in my direction, I could see clearly now that her eyes were the most beautiful brown eyes I had ever seen. They were still glistening from having cried, I was just about to shift and go console her when someone appeared from behind her. I crouched, ready to attack..
“BOO!” It was just Devin. I looked at their interaction and slowly backed away.
“I’ll meet you another night Dev, you should probably escort this girl home” I told him through mindlink before heading back home to make up with Gia.
We made up that night but ultimately broke up when I was appointed Alpha of the campus packhouse. She had no desire in going to the University and realized that I would never become the Alpha over my brother so she broke up with me. I honestly didn’t really care, I think I was just with her because I was lonely.
“I remember now..wow.” Is all I could say. Devin chuckled.
“Right then. Don’t worry about Mila, i’ll make sure she’s safe.” Devin said.
We hung up and I laid down on my bed thinking about my beautiful mate..I couldn’t wait to see her again. Being away from her was torture, I had to find a way to keep busy. I decided that my mother’s cooking could cheer me up, she would probably love to hear that I found my mate. I guess Cohen was right..I really was a Momma’s boy.
I drove to the Midnight Howl territory and made it to the packhouse. As I got out of my truck, I heard a lourd piercing shriek. I looked up and saw my mom and Whitney, Cohen’s mate, sitting on the patio. My mom jumped up and ran to greet me.
“Isaac! My baby! I’m so glad you’re home!” My mom said in a high-pitched tone, I bent down and gave her a great big hug.
“Hey Mom, i’m happy to see you too.” I said to her.
“Hi Isaac, how have you been?” Whitney asked me, I let go of my mother and gave my sister-in-law a hug as well.
“HEY! Stay away away from my mate brother, find your own.” My brother Cohen said as he walked down the front steps.
“I have.” I said simply, causing another set of shrieking. This time Whitney started screaming as well, her and my mother were jumping and screaming in my arms, which made my brother growl at us.
“Oh calm down you big grump.” Whitney said as she hopped up the stairs and hugged him lovingly.
“Hey, you’re all mine and you hugged my brother twice now. I want hugs too..” Cohen said while pulling Whitney closer to him and hugging her gently.
“Isaac! I want to hear all about your mate!” My mom said excitedly.
“She’s wonderful Mom, you’re going to love her.” I said beaming. My mom clapped her hands together and squealed.
“Come, come! Tell me all about her over supper, you look hungry!” My mom said as she grabbed my arm and we walked to her house, Cohen and Whitney followed.
“Leo! Come see who I found!” My mom called for my father as we walked into their house.
“I already know who it is dear, I know what my pup smells like.” My father said as he walked out of his office. He walked up to me and gave me a big hug.
“Son! Look at you! Have you been keeping up with training? I can tell that you bulked up significantly!” My father said to me.
“Thanks Dad, yeah i’ve been training twice a day.” I told him.
“Decided to challenge me for the Alpha position, baby brother?” Cohen said jokingly. I rolled my eyes at him.
“Don’t f*****g bring that up again, no I don’t want your title Cohen.” I told him seriously.
We sat in the backyard as my mom served us the most delicious meal, bacon wrapped scallops, 10 ounce steaks and creamy mashed potatoes. I sure did miss my mom’s cooking, I wonder if Mila is a good cook..
I told my family all about Mila, how breathtakingly beautiful she is, the fact that she’s a lifeguard, how she volunteers at an animal shelter, her father’s unfortunate passing, the complicated situation with her boyfriend and how fast I was falling for her.
My mother and Whitney were teary eyed almost the entire time I was talking.
“I can’t believe our little Isaac has found his mate! I’m so happy for you!” Whitney said while holding back tears. I was really happy my brother had found her as a mate, she was a really great Luna for our pack and she did wonders to calm my brother’s wolf. He was known for having a bad temper, but Whitney handled him without a problem.
Cohen smiled lovingly at his mate while he ran his fingers through her long blond hair, she turned to face him and kissed him while giggling. I couldn’t wait to have my Mila here with me and being able to be affectionate like that with her, I sighed.
“Don’t worry Honey, you’ll have your mate very soon. It sounds like your bond is already getting stronger. Have patience with her and court her like humans do. You’ve always been my sweet boy, I’m confident that you’ll win her over in no time!” My mother said reassuringly, I smiled at her.
I couldn’t wait to bring Mila to my pack, my mother really is going to love her..
