Tarkus was standing by the entrance to the flight deck on Kaira’s return. She handed him the coffee, slightly uncertain about the fact he was smiling again. “So what did you have to do?” she asked. “I’ll show you,” he said. “Go sit down.” Kaira walked in ahead of him and went to sit on the front seat on the left. “No,” said Tarkus. “The other one. On the right.” Kaira froze half way into the passenger seat, then turned to stare at him as she pulled herself up again. “You mean… your chair? The captain’s chair?” Tarkus just nodded. Kaira eased her way across into the other seat, her heart starting to hammer. This wasn’t what she’d expected at all!
