Kaira was on the flight deck, sitting next to Tarkus. He’d returned from the kitchen and unlocked the flight deck without saying a word to her, but he hadn’t told her she couldn’t join him or objected when she did. He also hadn’t said a word to her in the twenty something minutes they’d been sitting there. She was trying to watch what he was doing without seeming to do so. She still couldn’t really follow any of it, but at least this time she seemed to be succeeding in not distracting him. “It’s time,” said Tarkus. “We’re here.” Kaira jumped slightly, jerked from the quiet silence which had built up. Then his words sank in and she tensed, worried this would be another violent transition. She held on tightly to the arms of the chair as Tarkus activated the controls and they dropped
