Through the Years: Part 2

924 Words
5 Years later Nila pins Maverick by his neck and holds her head up when he concedes. The triplets had said if she could beat all 3 of them then she could go on border patrol with them. She hated when she was left behind since she was one of the best fighters and trackers, but her mother wouldn't allow her to go. This time, she would go no matter what. Nila excitedly walked behind her brothers, careful not to get in the way, as promised. They all were about to head back when Nila heard something. She perked her ears up and listened more closely. She noticed that no one else heard it, but she didn't have time to dwell or warn them because she heard them growl at something and took off running. Soon enough Nila came face to face with 5 rouges who looked like they were about to attack a young, scared wolf. Nila didn't recognize her either but smelt that she was from another pack. She growled at them but they looked amused at it. Nila, though a fierce and highly-trained warrior, still looked small, barely standing at 4 feet tall. When one of them lunged at her she quickly dodged and bite at their neck till they were dead. She didn't give them any time to react, for, she was now mad and ready to shed blood. 10 minutes later, Nila stood above 5 dead wolves. When her mom and dad showed up the shock on their faces matched the shock she felt. Her father, who had trained her since she was 5, looked so proud, but her mom's face showed horror and disappointment. Why? Nila wondered, she thought her mother would appreciate the strength she showed. Montgomery and Max were still trying to wash the blood out of Nila's fur, which made her sad because her mom was the one who washed her when she heard voices inside. "Calm down, Lia. I don't understand why you're so upset!" She heard her father say to her pacing mom. "Calm down?! Did you even see her out there? She looked like a feral beast!" Beast? Nila thought. "I can live with my daughter be a wolf forever, but sometimes it's like she doesn't even have a human side! I wanted to shop with my daughter, talk about everything, and be able to brag about her! But I can't, and I'll never be able to." Hearing the distress in her mother's voice Nila couldn't help but whimper. She didn't understand what made her mom so sad, but she keeps hearing the words, "she's not human." At hearing her whimper, Max stops brushing her and asks if she is ok. 1 Year later Nila is laying her head on her mother's lap and giving her input when asked. She quite enjoys the sound of her voice and it seems to be happier lately. Nila still can't understand why she was sad before, but she noticed her mom like it better when she stayed inside. "What do you think about this bookshelf?" Her mom asks, Nila looks at her and she continues, "I know we have a library, but what if you wanted your own books?" Nila looks at her mom again while she continues the conversation by herself. "Maybe you can't technically read on your own now. But perhaps you'll gain a human shift soon." She says with a smile. "Hey, sis! Trav and Tay are wrestling, wanna tag team with me?" Max nearly breaks the door in excitement. Nila's head perks up, a good fight is what she's been itching for and normally she would jump up immediately. But when she felt her mothers hand stop petting her, she shakes her head and lays back down in her mom. Max makes a look of confusion but shrugs and goes to ask Owen instead. Not long after that, her father walks in the room with a serious face, "Nila, Mrs Beasly needs your help with something." Nila gets up to help the pack trainer, as requested. Once she hits the bottom of the stairs she hears her parents start to argue. "Lia," Dorran starts, "I love you, you know I do." At hearing those words, Allia starts to get confused and nervous. The last time he said something like this, she thought, was when he told her that he was a High Demon. "I think you should stop pushing your human hopes on Nila." Allia couldn't believe what she was hearing, she went from being shocked to angry, "What do you mean 'pushing my human hopes?'"  "Obviously, you can hope that she gains a human form, but stop mentioning it 24/7. Haven't you noticed a change in her?"  "What do you mean change? She seems normal to me!" At this point, Allia is so angry that she starts to yell and doesn't care that everyone in the house could hear. Dorran, trying to control his temper, says through gritted teeth, "Well she isn't. She won't train anymore, she barely goes outside, and she isn't our usual hyper Nila." Allia's anger instantly dissipates as she realizes that her husband is right, "I just thought- Oh god what did I do!" She says before breaking down. Instantly, Dorran wrapped his arms around her saying that it'll be alright. A few moments later, she feels something fluffy on her side. When she looks she sees a concerned Nila whimpering at her. "I guess you heard all that huh." That night Allia took all of her children on a family run and made sure to show Nila that it's ok to be her feral, hyper self.
