Chapter 7Pidge slept as late as possible and went straight to class without breakfast or even coffee. He felt sleepy rather than exhausted. Today’s work was so easy that he listened with one ear—why did they have to bother doing this as homework if they were going to cover it in class?—giving the correct answers when called on without consciously processing what the professor had said. This turned out to be a lot less stressful than listening for his name. He didn’t even stutter.
He copied the notes from the board into his notebook, then drew a capital “G” and put a heart around it. He filled in the heart with black ink. Then he turned the heart into a circle so no one could see it. He liked knowing the heart and the “G” were under there, secret.
