CHAPTER 001
Liesel Bauer's Point of View My alarm blared, yanking me out of my much-needed slumber. I grumbled, stupidly reaching to shut it off. Today was the day—my interview at Weidemann Enterprises. I went through my morning routine: cleaning my teeth, taking a fast shower, and slipping into the clothing I had carefully chosen. I clipped pearl earrings into place, grabbed my purse, and locked up my flat before heading to my car. The office building wasn’t far, and I made it there in approximately fifteen minutes. I sat in my car for a bit, steadying my anxieties. Breathe in. Breathe out. Just assume this is another part-time job. No pressure. Looking up, my confidence faded. The building was massive—a veritable skyscraper towering over me. This was the end. It's either now or never. For the purpose of examining my reflection, I retrieved my portable mirror. There was no sign of smudging on my light pink lip gloss, and my straight ponytail was still in place. My freshly ironed button-up shirt was tucked in perfectly into my pencil skirt, which was black. My eyes are green, right? Their luster was still present as usual. This is remarkable, especially considering the quantity of donuts I had ingested in a state of stress prior to their departure. At the very least, my metabolism has never let me down. After making one last inspection of my Hugo Boss stilettos, I exited my vehicle and made my way inside the office building. Everything inside reeked of opulence and splendor. Under the glow of the brilliant lights, the white marble floors glistened and reflected each step that I took. The walls were lined with leather chairs, and the atmosphere throughout the entire place was one of efficiency. I greeted the receptionist with a pleasant grin as I approached her. She responded with a friendly smile. "How can I be of assistance to you?" she inquired. It was Liesel Bauer. It is for an interview that I am here. Before nodding, she checked the status of her computer. "You are anticipated to be on the upper floor. I wish you the best of luck." Then, after expressing my gratitude to her, I entered the elevator and pressed the button that indicated the seventieth level. As the numbers continued to rise, I made a conscious effort to maintain a steady breathing pattern. I was immediately overcome with a feeling of warmth as soon as the doors were opened. The view from this vantage point was really stunning, and it extended well beyond the skyscrapers of the city. My steps were made more comfortable by the plush carpet in a coffee-colored pattern, and the soothing hum of the air conditioning helped calm my worries. I knocked on the door of the office. "Come in," a loud voice shouted out the moment it was heard" I entered the building and took in the surroundings. The city was displayed through windows that reached from floor to ceiling, lighting the contemporary interior with a gentle blue hue. Due to the fact that I had read an excessive amount of romance novels, I had anticipated a young and outrageously handsome CEO. On the other hand, a man in his fifties was seated behind the large desk, and he was looking at me with a beaming smile on his face. Although he appeared to be kind, I refrained from passing judgment on him too fast. Although he was older, he carried himself with the self-assurance of a man who was still in his prime. His hair was styled in a salt-and-pepper style, and he had a well-groomed appearance. "Please, take a seat, Ms. Bauer," he urged in a tone that was both stern and welcoming. While I was settling into the chair, I saw that there was movement. Another person was present in the room. As he stood close to the windows, he was tall—no, towering—with broad shoulders and a muscular physique. The waves in his jet-black hair were undulating, and he exuded an air of tranquil intensity. Despite the fact that I was unable to see his face since he was facing away from me, there was an unquestionably authoritative quality to his presence. My mouth dropped open, and I mumbled, "Well, he's a giant." Before I could stop myself. The water that Mr. Weidemann was drinking caused him to choke, and he hastily dabbed his lips with a handkerchief. "That was... blunt." At that moment, the so-called giant turned around, and I felt a flipping sensation in my stomach. Eyes that are ocean blue. Jaw that has been chiseled. His sharp features were surrounded by stubble. He appeared to have been taken directly from a Hugo Boss advertisement. And judging by the glare he shot me, he’d heard my comment loud and clear. "What did you just call me?" There was a hint of annoyance evident in his deep voice. I met his gaze level-headedly. "A giant, Mr. Weidemann Jr." His nostrils became dilated. "Excuse me?" I gave a shrug. I am Mr. Weidemann, and he is your father. Is it possible that it would be confused if I called you that as well? Yes, Mr. Weidemann Jr., that is the case. The intensity of his glare increased as he sneaked closer. I was sitting in my chair when I suddenly found myself leaning back in it. Save the nonsense, please. Dad, don't hire her," he yelled before storming out of the room. I exhaled, turning to Mr. Weidemann. "I sincerely apologize if I offended you." To my amazement, he chuckled. "Oh, not at all. His mother indulged him too much." I let forth a little smile. "I imagine keeping him in line is a challenge." Upon hearing that, he laughed and then made a motion toward my résumé. "Let’s begin, shall we?" Over the course of the subsequent ten minutes, I was challenged with inquiries concerning my credentials, experience, and abilities. There were no problems taking place at all. After that, the final inquiry was asked. "Since this is a personal matter, you are not required to respond; however, I prefer personnel who do not combine their personal lives with their professional lives. What are your current relationship statuses? "There is no issue, sir. I’ve been dating Markus Lehmann for two years. We don't see each other very frequently because he lives in a different state, but we do keep in touch with each other and try to visit whenever we can. Mr. Weidemann's grin became more expansive. It was a solid handshake that he extended his hand for. "Welcome to Weidemann Enterprises." I had completed the task. I have been hired for the position. I left the office, but one notion continued to stay in my mind. Do you know why I had the impression that Mr. Weidemann Jr. was the most difficult obstacle I had to overcome?
