Liesel Bauer's POV
While maintaining a steady tone of voice, I rolled my eyes. "Nothing much."
It's not often that you send me a phone call. Markus stated that he was the one who always gave the call.
"What are you implying?"
"Not a thing. Liesel, I am merely reporting the facts. The truth is usually a distasteful thing.
Are you sure? Do you agree that my truths are sour? As if you don't have any disheartening realities.
"What sour realities do I have?" she said. I am completely honest with you about everything. Over the phone, why are we even disagreeing with each other?
"Well, I’m not near you, so who knows what you’re doing with that boss of yours?"
I inhaled deeply and exhaled quickly. "You did NOT just accuse me."
"Oh, I did."
The jerk, you! Dare you do that? What is it that you want me to do after all these years have passed?
"Yeah."
"Are you sure? You don't require any explanation from me at this time. Do I ever mention you and Anneliese in my conversation with you? What's that?
"So now you’re accusing me?"
I don't have any reason to suspect you because I have complete faith in you. Trust is the cornerstone upon which a relationship is built. Clearly, you don’t have it in you."
Silence.
Then, to click.
Call was terminated by Markus.
As a result, I did not return his call.
An inaudible chuckle caused me to turn around. As he observed me, his eyes were filled with a lively sense of amusement.
"Sir, can I go home now?"
He smiled with a smirk when he spoke. "Yes, if you’re sure you won’t feel lonely."
It appears that you have a misunderstanding. There are a lot of wonderful people in my life who can keep me entertained.
His eyes became shadowy. He moved in closer, enclosing me in his grasp. "Who might that be exactly?"
When I looked into his eyes, I did not flinch. It is a matter that pertains solely to me, sir. I would prefer that you refrain from getting involved in this matter.
His jaw became more tense. He was aware that I was correct, so he did not provide an answer.
"Get out of my sight."
Before turning on my heel and departing, I mumbled under my breath, "Gladly," before saying goodbye.
During my descent, I was able to hear Sabine shouting out my name. I moved my arm to face her. "What's up! What's going on?"
"I was just wondering if you wanted to go clubbing with me."
"I have to go—"
Kindly, Liesel, please! It will be a good time. Our very first night out with the girls! At my place, we can get ready for the day.
"I don’t have an appropriate dress, Sabine."
"That’s what I’m here for."
"I also have to submit all these files tomorrow."
She took a quick look at the stack that I was holding. "All right, how about we finish them for the moment? The boss's anger is something we do not want to see. It is not a happy thing to behold."
She made a valid argument.
We made our way to her flat, which was cozy and welcoming. Within four and a half hours, I was able to complete my task. The files were not as large as the initial batch, and I was fortunate enough to have finished most of them before the deadline. By the time we were done, it was one in the morning.
Even then, Sabine refused to take no for an answer.
She pulled dress after dress from her closet, each one more revealing than the last. I rejected them all.
"Gosh, Liesel! If you don’t choose one, I’m putting it on you personally."
I sighed as she brought out a sleek crimson dress. It was strapless, with tiny stones along the neckline. Not too revealing. Not too modest.
"Try this."
I was forced toward the restroom before she thrust it into my hands and shoved it into my hands before I could object.
That's how I put it on.
It worked out.
Without a doubt.
It was Sabine who let out a squeal as I stepped out. Here we go with the hair and makeup. When it's all said and done, men will be rushing to be with you.
It's not males that I'm looking for, Sabine said. A boyfriend is in my life.
"Hell, yes, I am. No matter what, Mom."
I was given a smoky eye, and she painted my lips a deep red color. She then pulled my hair into a sleek ponytail hairstyle. I was so surprised to see myself in the mirror that I hardly recognized myself. An outstanding job had been done by her.
As soon as she was ready, she looked absolutely lovely in the hot pink dress that she had chosen.
After she took my hand, we got in the car and drove to the club. From the outside, the neon sign read "Nightklub."
I did a frown. "Sabine, are we even supposed to be here?"
Without a doubt. At this time, I am a member. Let's go ahead and have some fun now!
It was she who brought me inside. The location was remarkable. Even familiar to me.
I was wondering why it felt so familiar.
"Come on!" After being pulled to the dance floor by her, I finally let go of her embrace for the first time in a while. The strain that it causes. It's the stress. Every single thing.
We were dancing.
He laughed.
We have lost track of time.
After some time had passed, I began to feel exhausted, and I made my way to the bar. I require some water.
When the bartender asked the patron, "What would you like, ma'am?"
"A glass of water, please."
It was a glass that he placed in front of me. I took a sip without giving it any thought.
Throat pain was present.
I choked and coughed as hard as I could. "What is this?!"
The bartender gave a short shrug. "There was no water, so I gave you a shot of vodka."
"You i***t!"
I have never been very good with booze.
Is that vodka?
Already, I was experiencing dizziness. stirred up. Dizzy.
As I attempted to get my thoughts organized, I shook my head. As I was walking around, I saw Sabine still dancing with an unknown man.
"Sabine, can we go now?"
"Where are you going? We have only just arrived!
"I was given vodka by the bartender, and I ended up drinking it by accident. My head is spinning.
Let's just take a seat at the bar for a little while. We are going to leave very shortly."
After nodding, I sat back down with the intention of remaining motionless.
Still, then—
Suddenly, I found myself filled with a peculiar and giddy excitement.
Suddenly, I found myself standing up instead of sitting down.
On the move I was.
Performing dances.
I am laughing.
Before I knew it, everything around me began to blur, and then a powerful hand grabbed my arm.
I was able to hear a deep voice that was eerily familiar whispering into my ear.
"What do you think you’re doing, Liesel?"
I became numb.
My heart was beating very fast.
The sound of that voice…
It couldn’t be.
Are you sure?
