CHAPTER 2

1115 Words
Derrick "Hello, am I on to the right person?" I asked, hoping I was speaking to the boss, whose attention I so desperately needed at this time. "Yes, how may I help you?" He said, his voice stern as always. "I need to speak to someone; it's quite urgent," I added. "That's okay. Give needed details, make payments, and sit back; we'll handle the rest as is our usual." The voice assured. "I like the sound of that," I said, happiness jumping on my inside; I was obsessed with Anika, even if she was just a friend; I couldn't shake the fact that I wanted her to see me as her hero too, not just a friend. I saw as a huge threat anything that stood in my way as regards accomplishing my mission. Now I had something cooking, cooking in the direction I wanted it to. Now I could lay my head to rest. Although I wasn't so pleased with the day, especially how I was turned down by Anika, I could still breathe, so I had hope. She might turn me down today, but that would certainly not be the case the next time. I was sure about it like I was sure of my expertise. I took off my clothes in a reckless manner, as though my clothes were the reason for my horny ordeal. It almost seemed like my clothes were pleading that I go easy on them. But I couldn't care less. I took my shower and sank into my bed, this cozy comfort of the soft bed brushed against my skin. In that moment I wished so much that I wasn't alone, alone in my own embrace, but I had to swallow this bitter pill for the night. One step at a time, Derrick, it'll all be bygone soon, I comforted myself. I didn't want to be too hard on myself, and that, as well, wouldn't be fair on me. I felt like checking on Anika, before finally drifting off to sleep. Upon a second thought, my ego got the best of me, and slept, the rest. The day opened anew into a cloudy day; it was very cloudy outside, and it seemed like a heavy downpour was looming in the skies. The clouds were dark, an almost sure sign of the aforementioned. I needed to make it to work, but this time I had to check on Anika. I and Steph needed to be by her side in this difficult time. For what it was worth, she was our friend, so if not for any other, that might be enough reason, I told myself. I walked in the direction of her room. I could already feel something wasn't right. When I got to the front of her door, I didn't have to knock, the door was wide open. I walked in, calling her name with every step I took, but there was no response. Her room wasn't in a mess, she wasn't forcefully taken or so, at least it didn't seem so. I pulled out my phone from my pocket and began to dial her number, trying Steph's too. It was ringing, but she wasn't picking up. My heart was racing within me. I didn't want to think of the worst thing it could be, so I just appeased myself with the few good thoughts I could muster. It was a herculean task, but I was up to the task. Cold chills ran through my skin when I heard a knock on the door. I rushed to the door, hoping she'd be the one; my guess was right. She was the one. "Wher-" I was about to say when my lips were welcomed with a deep kiss. "I missed you. Did you miss me?" She asked, her voice seducing and enchanting. "What's going on?" I asked, a mixture of confusion and gladness pasted on my face. "We are going on... Derrick, do you still want me?" She added, she seemed to be under the influence of something. While I sat there, my brain racked, I was wondering what the new act was all about. Was she trying to get something from me? Was this real? Or was she just in a good mood? "You seem lost in thoughts. Are you okay my love?" She asked, throwing her arms around me, as she dropped what she was carrying. "What's in the bag?" I asked, trying to buy myself more time to understand her before I went under. "Foodstuff, I wanna make up a nice dish for the most amazing man in the world." She praised, her face up. "Oh.... That's so sweet of you!" I feigned, hoping she didn't notice; unfortunately, she did. "You don't like that? You didn't get to ask what dish it would be, you know, it just might be your favorite!" She let out. "Oh, no issues at all. I'll be waiting for you! I can't wait to have a taste of the meal!" I exclaimed, trying to put up an act I was so uncomfortable in. "Of course, I know you'll enjoy it." She said. A call then visited my phone, interrupting our conversation. I stepped away to take my call, turning repeatedly to ensure no one was following. "Hello. What's the update?" I whispered, trying to ensure Anika didn't catch a word of my conversation on the phone. She was used to prying, so I was almost sure she was somewhere eavesdropping. "It's all clear, it's done." The voice replied, emotionless. A wave of relief blew over me, finally I could get to speak to her, the lady who could give us some leads as to what happened to Anika's family. Her existence posed a huge threat to all the culprits, so we had to protect her at all costs. Getting her out of the way would be a huge relief to them, to say the least. I took the phone off my ears immediately I heard footsteps approaching, I thought it was Anika, but it wasn't. Stephanie rushed to me to tell me of the incident. "Dee!! Did you check the News?! I think they found them! They were involved in the ghastly murder incident that claimed Anika's family!!!" She exclaimed; I tried my best, feigning a surprised face, but I also had to pretend I was surprised for fear of any weird signals since I planned it all as a surprise for Anika. They were involved in her family's death, which wasn't theirs for the taking; it was all none of their business, so now their only business in my house was on the TV, watching them get what they deserved!
