1. THE WORST VALENTINE
~NYX
"RULE ONE OF ISIS ACADEMY: Under no circumstances must there be a student-professor romantic relationship in the school. Offenders will be expelled immediately." Dean Calanthé Rayes announced in a voice that echoed throughout the large hall.
I smiled with excitement as I digested her words. It was our first orientation at the school and two things were making me this hyped today. The first being the fact that I was allowed the privilege of attending this prestigious academy.
It was the dream of every young werewolf out there. A good life after graduation was promised for nobodies like me who got in through a scholarship.
"Second rule: Don't break the first rule and the third rule; follow every rule listed to you at the point of entry," her voice was quite stern for the sexy persona that she portrayed, clad in a black custom-made suit that showed off her voluptuous bosoms. "With that said, have a nice Valentine's Day— try not to screw each other too much tonight."
The entire hall giggled and I laughed with them as I watched Dean Calanthé leave the stage.
This was the second reason why I was happy. It was Valentine's Day and I could not wait to give Rylan— my boyfriend of the past one year— the gift I had prepared for him. He was the one person I was the most grateful to. If it had not been for him, then I wouldn't have passed the exam and gotten into school with him.
Unlike me, his family could pay. He was the younger brother of our Pack's Beta after all— an elite member of the pack. While I was just an orphaned low-status werewolf who had no idea if I was an Omega or a normal wolf.
My wolf was too weak to participate in everything that I did. Thus, I stopped trying to connect with her a long time ago.
"Are you going to keep sitting there or are you going to let us through?" A tall boy with dark glasses asked as he stood over me.
This broke me out of my thoughts and I realised that I was sitting at the very edge of the row, stopping the rest from leaving.
"Oh! I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed as I jumped to my feet.
He only shook his head at me as if he was disinterested in anything I had to say. Every other person passed by me and only shook their heads in annoyance. I found myself muttering a thousand sorry's until they all left.
I sighed loudly when I was alone and looked down at the little red box I carried. It contained a watch but it was no ordinary watch. The wrists were handmade by me.
I blushed at the thought and began my search for Rylan. I walked out of the hall and began to make my way down the large and long corridors.
I knew just where to find that tall blue eyed beauty. He was surely going to be by the school's pool. He loved swimming and he was already a year into the school so he didn't need to be at this orientation like me who just got in.
I did not need help getting to the pool because I knew my way around. This was because it wasn't my first time here. I had visited him countless times before.
I giggled this time at the thought of seeing his blond perfect mess of hair again when someone suddenly bumped into me but didn't stop to apologise.
"What the hell!" I yelled but another person hit me again. "Hey! What the f**k is going on? Where are you all rushing to?"
"Didn't you hear?" The girl stopped as she turned to me. There was excitement on her face. "A freshman just found her mate and he's a senior!"
I frowned. Already? Whoever this freshman was, she was damn lucky. These days, finding one's mate has become a hard and rare thing to see.
I suddenly became curious to see who this girl was. I wanted to ask her about how she felt so that I would know when my wolf finally recognised Rylan as my mate.
"Wait for me!" I cried as I picked up my speed and began to run after them.
I soon realised that we were all running towards the pool. Good, I would get to kill two birds with one stone. I could meet Rylan and see this freshman too.
The moment I entered the large swimming pool hall, I felt it. Something was definitely wrong somewhere.
Students were gathered very close to the pool and I knew immediately that it was where the freshman and her mate would be.
"Kiss her! Kiss her! Kiss her!" All the students suddenly began to chant.
I smiled and started pushing through the students so that I would get the chance to see.
"Yes!" The crowd chorused, claps and cheers echoed through the space and I understood that they must have fulfilled their wish.
However, as I finally reached the front of the line and I set my eyes on the man who just finished kissing the freshman, my world came to an abrupt stop.
I froze. My heart shattered. My world crumbled and the world was suddenly drained of all its color.
When he saw me, the color also drained from his face. "Nyx. . ." He called in a shocked voice.
The mate the freshman had found was none other than Rylan.
My Rylan!
"No, this can't be true. . ." I swallowed hard as my hands began to tremble and tears formed in my eyes. "Rylan. . . I'm the one who's supposed to be your mate. I— we— you're my boyfriend!"
The crowd gasped and the innocent freshman by his side widened her eyes at us both.
"What's going on here? Y— you have a— she's your girlfriend?" She asked in a small and confused voice.
"N— no she's not. We—"
"I'm not?" I cut Rylan off in shock as I staggered towards him. I reached him and grabbed his shirt with my shaky hands. "What do you mean that I'm not?"
I felt my dangerous anger begin to bubble up and I knew that my actions would soon become unpredictable if I was not calmed now.
"N— no, Nyx, that's not what I meant. I'm trying to—"
The echo of a thunderous slap scattered across the space, causing Rylan to stagger away from me.
Yes! I had slapped him!
"Then what do you mean you f*****g bastard!" I screamed.
A loud menacing roar suddenly erupted from the freshman and she charged toward me with everything she had.
All it took was a simple push from her, before my entire body was propelled into the pool. I barely got the chance to yelp before my voice got drowned in the water and the crowd exclaimed.
"Don't you dare raise your hand to my mate, ever again!" She stated firmly and I wondered where she had suddenly gotten the courage.
Was this what a mate bond could do?
Rylan widened his eyes at us before he started grabbing at his hair like the confused baboon that he was.
I mean, I knew that I was overreacting and none of this was his fault. No one had control over the mate bond assigned to us by the goddess but I was already heartbroken and angry at him as well as myself.
My body started trembling as I remained in the pool and I noticed that the other students had already started taking videos of my humiliating moment.
I was sure I looked like a wet chicken about to be sacrificed by an ancient witch. I was a total disaster and I hated myself at the moment.
"Stay away from him, you hear me?" The freshman warned and I only clenched my teeth as I got out of the pool.
So much for Valentine's day being the day of love, it was the day I got my heart ripped right out of my f*****g weak chest!
I stopped when I finally got out of the pool and shot Rylan a death glare. "I hate you both! I hope you wake up tomorrow with ugly red boils on your bodies!" I screamed bitterly and started pushing my way past all the students again.
It was a tragedy and I wished the ground would just swallow me up already. Then I laughed at myself.
"Talk about bad days, nothing could get worse than this," I muttered to myself bitterly.
But I spoke too soon because as if on cue, my phone buzzed in my pocket. How the phone was still working after being pushed into a pool— I totally had no idea.
I took it out of my pocket and froze at the content of the message I had just received.
‘Ms Nyxoria Black, your scholarship has just been revoked. You are no longer a student of Isis Academy.’
And I let out the most frustrating scream in my entire life.
