Chapter 7: "Well?" He insists clearly growing impatient. I watch the pack in confusion, frozen in my spot. Silence fills the air. "In order to become a full wolf you must get marked by one of your own pack. That's the only way to trigger the curse." He explains the rules. Curse?  "This girl did not turn tonight willingly. One of you is clearly responsible. So who the hell marked her!?" He demands causing me to jump in response.  "Me! It was me." A voice finally accepts responsibility. Everyone turns towards his direction. My eyes dart towards the blonde guy with blue grayish eyes. I examine him in puzzlement.  "I've been tracking her. Watching her. Every night she would go to the woods, I was there. I felt like I needed to look out for her. One night, something just came over me and well...I marked her." Chase shares with us all.  "You were the one who attacked me that night and gave me that scar?" I ask in disbelief. His eyes meet mine, "yes." He confirms.  "What in the world possessed you to do that!? Are you insane?  She's 18 Chase!" Shawn argues in frustration.  "She has potential." Chase defends.  "She's a child!" Shawn fires. "She's ready!" He fires back. Shawn sighs through his nose. "I can't deal with this right now. I can't deal with her." He declares.  "Well she can't fend for herself. She needs guidance." Chase reminds. I continue to stare as the argument escalates.  "Which is why you don't mark people without my permission! I'm the Alpha!" He growls.  "Enough!" Veronica orders. "What's done is done. Chase marked her, which means she turns every full moon and her wolf form is triggered if she gets cut/hurt and starts to bleed. She needs to learn the rules in order to survive. The half-breed is now unfortunately our problem thanks to someone's impulsive decision." She states clearly annoyed. Half-breed? Was that suppose to be an insult?  "We'll train her. Willie can explain the rules. Veronica can teach her how to fight. I'll always be at service to her if she needs me. We can do this." Chase encourages. "Just take her to her tent. We'll continue discussing this tomorrow." Shawn decides. The pack obeys and begins to go separate ways. Willie walks up to me. "Are you okay?" He questions. I nod. "Let's get you some clothes and a drink." He offers. I follow him.  After finally dressing myself, I sit on a mattress drinking some hot tea that Willie kindly provided me with. He sits besides me. "Friendly pack huh?" I state sarcastically. He chuckles. "It's...we're something alright." He comments not finding the right words. My eyebrows rise, "You're telling me?" I question sipping on some more tea.  "Half-breed?" I question randomly referring to Veronica's comment earlier, hoping he would understand. "That's just what we call those who aren't full wolves yet. Half-breeds, pups, babes." He retorts. Oh.  "So I'm not a full wolf?" I question. He shakes his head in response. "The crest is marked somewhere on our bodies; typically where we got marked. It's only permanent on the body of a full wolf, but shows itself rare moments on those who haven't taken the necessary steps to become full wolves."  He further explains. "How come mine was visible tonight?" I ask. "Because you came into contact with the Alpha. Shawn has this kind of...power if you must." Willie answers. "Like magic?" I ask. He nods. "Where's yours?" I wonder. He turns to the side and offers his shoulder blade so I can see it. The blue feather beautifully lays in sight. My fingers unconsciously reach for his shoulder and trace the crest tatted on his skin. I stare in awe. I feel my cheeks flush red when I realize what I was doing. "Sorry." I chuckle. "No worries." He smiles turning back around after I retrieve my hand.   "What's Shawn's deal?" I change the subject. He sighs. "He's the Alpha. The alpha dominates: he's our leader." He shrugs. "He doesn't have to be so harsh though." I state. "He's like that. Really aggressive. It's difficult to get on his good side. You get used to it though." He replies. "And the other two?" I question. "Chase is our Beta: meaning second in command. Him and Shawn usually consult each other about decisions and whatnot. You clearly were not part of any discussion, because Shawn certainly did not know about you. They don't always see eye to eye, because Chase can be snarky and stubborn. Then there's Emmett: our Omega. The lowest rank. Typically an Omega chooses not to have a powerful or important role in a social situation. Like today, Emmett didn't bother to speak. Not because he couldn't. He just chooses not to, but he's really smart and skillful. He's been around for a long time, so he knows plenty, but he's quiet. He keeps to himself." Willie identifies each rank. I nod, understanding everyone's character a little bit better.  "Veronica?" I question. "She's just bad-ass. Our top female fighter. She's included as a leader because of her time here and her relationship with the rank." He states. "Got it. Sorry for all the questions." I laugh. "I'm happy to answer them." He smiles. "You're so nice. Unlike your pack." I comment. "Thanks, but you know we're wolves right? Our hearing is on point." He warns. "Right." I accept in embarrassment.  "Well you should get some rest. You've had quite a night. Training begins tomorrow." He informs standing up.  "Already?" I ask a bit shocked. "Just so you can learn how to control your emotions and know what to do in any given situation around humans." He explains.  "Goodnight." He adds. "Goodnight." I reply uneasily trying to process everything. "How do I become a full wolf?" I blurt out. He turns around to face me.  "You have to give up everything." He answers without hesitation. I try not to react and force myself to nod. He stares at the tent exit for a few seconds then back to me. "I understand if you don't want this, but think about it. If you don't, I won't stand in your way, but my pack will not agree with me. They won't let you go easily. So just choose wisely." He advises softly.  "I hope you stick around Whisper." He confesses. "Thank you for everything." I whisper. He nods winking, and waving goodbye.      I knew what I had to do. RUN.
