Chapter 15:
After eating supper with some of the pack I decide to go to the river. Running towards my destination like I normally do in order to clear my mind and release my stress, I arrive at the shoreline. I let out a sigh of relief seeing that the river was free of any members of the pack.
I effortlessly remove my clothes leaving only my undergarments on and rush into the cool refreshing body of water.
Closing my eyes I relax under the water as it numbs my aching muscles from training. A sudden whistle interrupts my thoughts. I reopen my eyes unwillingly and notice Willie at the shoreline. A smile graces my lips. "Thank God it's just you!" I confess.
He begins to remove his shirt and sweats. "Leave your underwear on please!" I shout. "I wasn't going to take them off weirdo!" He shouts back causing me to chuckle. He joins me in the water shortly.
"So, I see you're alive and well. I'm glad today's training didn't kill you" he notices in a mocking tone. I splash water at him. "Don't patronize me" I warn. He laughs. "Come on you have to admit you were being really dramatic this morning." He states. "Whatever Willie", I dismiss.
"So was it that bad?" He questions. I think the training over. "Yes it was. She kicked my ass multiple times." I inform. "I wish I was there to witness it", he thinks out loud. I splash water at him again. "But I learned a lot. She taught me a lot. If I were still living in town I would be able to defeat a group of burglars with no trouble." I share.
"Nice" Willie replies. "Bet you can't beat me though." he adds. I laugh at his statement. "You believe that?" I challenge while raising an eyebrow. He smiles. "She even complimented me today." I mention.
Willie gasps. "So she doesn't hate you!?" He questions dramatically. I furiously begin to splash water at him. "Whisper!" He warns. I continue with more force. "Would you stop that!" He calls out mimicking my actions of splashing water.
I laugh at our childish behavior. I feel Willie's hands pull my legs towards him causing me to gasp. As the water splashing dies down I find my legs wrapped around Willie's waist. His hands are firmly placed on my thighs.
"How do you get your curls to look like that?" I wonder out loud to steer away from the position we found ourselves in unnecessarily.
He shrugs. "I don't know." He confesses. I examine his perfect blonde curls. "I wish I had them like that" I confess playing with his hair. He chuckles pushing my body closer to him. "Your waves are nice though." He notices. "Yeah" I retort wrapping my arm around his neck and pushing my chest towards his to close the gap of space between us.
I feel his burning gaze as I continue to play with his hair. "You're right. My hair is easy to work with that way. But it's boring." I add.
"Why is this so easy?" He questions. "What is?" I ask. "This." He motions to our current position and lack of space. I shrug. "Perhaps because our attraction for each other doesn't surpass friendship." I presume. "Why, when did you get so intellectual?" He mocks. I laugh freeing him from my legs. He swims a few inches back to allow more space between us.
"You're right though. I can't imagine us being a couple. I could imagine us kissing, but other than that? Nada." He explains. I chuckle. "Agreed, but I love this. That we're just friends." I state. He nods.
"Who do you like, like that?" I ask. He avoids eye contact. "Nobody." He mumbles. I splash water at him. "Don't lie to your bestfriend." I order feeling the foreign title easily escape my lips. "Veronica." He answers simply.
"I knew it!" I cheer. "Shut up you did not." He rolls his eyes. I laugh. "Are you going to do something about it?" I ask. "No" He retorts. "Why not?" I insist. He shrugs. "I don't know". "How about you? Anybody from the pack draw your attention in that way?" He questions excitedly. I shake my head no.
He laughs clearly unconvinced. "Anyone but Chase please." He comments. I gasp and laugh loudly. "Oh no not Chase." I laugh. "Please!" He begs. "Stop it, don't be mean." I order. "He's mean", he points out. "You aren't though." I inform. Willie rolls his eyes then offers me a serious look.
"Who then?" He insists. I shrug my shoulders. "You're blushing." He notices with a grin. "Willie stop." I try to dismiss growing nervous. "Tell you what." I propose. "Ask me again once I am more familiar with everyone here. I did just get here, I can't possibly have a crush already". I explain. "Fair enough." He agrees.
"So are you ready for tomorrow's training?" He finally changes the subject. "I faced Veronica, there's nobody more intimidating than her. I'm sure I'll be ready." I retort confidently and casually.
He laughs. "Not if it's Emmett Cullen." He states. My heart drops to my stomach. I had completely forgot. I swallow the lump that had formed in my throat and try to process this piece of anxious worthy news.
