Jeremy’s Point of View
I entered my office, feeling like the air was leaving my lungs faster than I could control, almost uncontrollably.
Gael, my friend and colleague, didn’t take long to enter and interrupt that moment of tension I felt with myself.
“Jeremy, great to see you around. I’m glad you want to be involved in the projects. It’s good to have you back in the office,” he said, shaking my hand.
I smiled back, but couldn’t shake the odd feeling inside.
“Sure,” I replied, not very enthusiastic.
My mind kept returning to the night before and that woman, Alondra, with whom I had had such an unexpected encounter.
I still couldn’t wrap my head around it, especially because there was something about her, something that attracted me, even though I knew I shouldn’t feel that way.
Gael looked at me with a slight tilt of his head, as if he had already noticed something.
“Everything okay, Jeremy? You seem… off.”
I sighed, running a hand through my hair, feeling that discomfort grow inside me.
“It’s just a coincidence, nothing more,” I murmured in a low voice, though I knew I didn’t sound convinced, not even to myself.
Gael raised an eyebrow, curious, and stared at me. “Coincidence? What do you mean?”
I paused for a moment, weighing my words before letting them out.
“I satisfied my thirst last night with a woman. And now, an employee who works here has the same name as her.”
Gael stayed silent for a few seconds, processing what I had just said. When he finally spoke, his voice was filled with surprise and a bit of amusement.
“What? The woman you slept with last night is the same one who works here?”
My face tensed. I didn’t want to admit that what I had just said sounded… strange, but it was the truth.
“I don’t know, Gael. It might just be a coincidence… I can’t help it, though I think it’s just a coincidence.”
Gael chuckled softly, but at the same time, his expression shifted to a more serious one.
“Jeremy, you know you can’t afford that kind of thing. Not with a human. And especially not being the alpha king.”
The mention of my role as the alpha king hit me hard. I knew. I was aware of the rules of our people, the consequences of any transgression.
I knew what was at stake, and I couldn’t let myself be carried away by momentary desires. But the attraction I felt toward Alondra, her attitude, her gaze, was something I couldn’t ignore.
“I know,” I replied, lowering my gaze. “I’m not going to do anything. It wasn’t planned, and it won’t happen again. I know who’s meant for me. It’s not her, and I’m sure she’s not the woman from last night.”
Gael looked at me as if searching for a reason to believe me.
“My dear friend, I assure you it’s just a coincidence, because you know you can’t risk it. We’re not meant to be with humans, even if we live in their world pretending to be one.”
I nodded, Gael was right in every word, but my mind kept lingering on that woman. Who was she? Why was she affecting me so much?
Just as I was about to say something else, the office door opened without warning.
Alondra walked in with some documents in her hands, walking with a confidence that surprised me. I hadn’t expected her, but there she was. In front of me.
“Good morning, Mr. Hanks,” she said softly, and her eyes met mine instantly. My thoughts stopped for a second, feeling an increasing discomfort.
“Good morning,” I replied, keeping it brief.
“I’ve been assigned as your secretary while you’re in the office,” she continued, her tone clear, professional, but her presence was so… striking.
How could she be the same woman I had shared such an intense night with, and now see her here, in such a different context?
I looked at her, processing what she had just said. My mind was in chaos.
“Is that all?” I asked coldly, trying to keep my composure. “You can leave if you have nothing else to say.”
She didn’t flinch, and that threw me off even more.
“It’s going to be hard to work with such a grumpy boss,” she replied with a challenging tone, as if she were fully aware of my discomfort.
My jaw tightened. How could she speak to me that way? It wasn’t something I usually tolerated, but something about her made me hesitate.
“If you want to keep your job, you should stay quiet and do as you’re told,” I responded coldly, not thinking too much.
Alondra didn’t say anything else. She just looked at me, holding my gaze for a moment that felt like an eternity, then turned and walked out.
The door closed with a soft click, leaving me in a sea of confused thoughts.
Gael, who had been watching the whole scene, couldn’t help but approach and ask with an ironic smile.
“What was that?” he asked, curious.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves before responding. I didn’t want him to see how affected I was, but I knew I couldn’t hide it.
“It’s Alondra,” I murmured, trying to keep my calm. “She… she has the same name as the woman from last night. And if it was her… I prefer to keep my distance.”
Gael looked at me with a playful smile, but his face quickly became serious.
“Jeremy, you know you can’t allow yourself to feel anything for her. She’s human. And the rules are clear.”
“I know,” I replied in my deep voice. “I know.”
It was clear that I couldn’t afford to fall for any human. The woman destined for me was waiting for me within the pack.
She would be the one tied to me for eternity.
