Realization

UNIVERSITY:

Bree and other students are here. They have just finished their classes. Olivia appears from the corner. And as soon as Bree sees her, she says bye to her friends and leaves in a hurry. Olivia sees her leaving.

A FARM:

Kaden is here with Zach. They are checking the farm. It is a beautiful place. There is a horseyard with horses and we see a young woman standing next to a horse. It is the farm's owner, MS. GREEN. She is really tall and looks very strong. She sees Kaden and Zach and comes up to them.

MS. GREEN

You again? I have already told you that this farm is not for sale.

ZACH

But this time we have a very

intriguing offer for you.

MS. GREEN

(walking away from them)

Not interested.

Kaden and Zach say nothing and just look after her as she walks away.

A COFFEE SHOP:

Bree has started working here as a waitress. Olivia comes up to her.

OLIVIA

What are you doing here?

BREE

Working.

OLIVIA

What about the job you got at my

friend's company?

BREE

I got fired.

OLIVIA

Fired? Why? What happened?

BREE

Listen, Olivia. I'm very busy. You see, I'm working. I can't talk to you.

At this moment a customer raises his hand to attract Bree's attention. Bree leaves Olivia.

OLIVIA

(after her)

Okay, bye. See you. I'll call you, okay?

But Bree does not reply.

OLIVIA'S FAMILY

HOUSE. EVENING:

Olivia and Kaden are sitting on the sofa. Kaden is watching TV. Olivia is calling someone on her cell phone. But the person doesn't pick up.

OLIVIA (CONT'D)

KADEN

(without looking at her)

OLIVIA

Something strange is happening.

KADEN

OLIVIA

I think Bree is avoiding me

intentionally and I don't know

why.

Kaden looks at her, then back at the TV.

(surprised)

She actually did it.

OLIVIA

Did what?

KADEN

I asked her to stay away from you.

OLIVIA

What? Why would you do that?

KADEN

Olivia, she is not who you think

she is.

OLIVIA

What do you mean she is not who I think she is? I've known her since I started university!

Kaden makes a wry face.

OLIVIA (CONT'D)

She is the best person I have ever met! Always helping others!

KADEN

And yet she can't help herself.

OLIVIA

What do you mean? Can you please

talk a little clearer?

KADEN

She is an addict, Olivia.

OLIVIA

What? Addict? Do you even know who you're talking about?

KADEN

I saw her, okay? I saw her with my own eyes!

OLIVIA

It is not possible!

KADEN

I'm telling you I saw her!

OLIVIA

What did you see? Can you tell me what you saw?

(calmly)

I saw her begging for money on the street.

OLIVIA

(laughing)

Begging? It's just so ridiculous!!

And then she finally realizes the situation.

OLIVIA (CONT'D)

Oh my God! Don't tell me you thought it was really happening..

KADEN

What?

OLIVIA

You saw her on the day you dropped me at the same street where you saw her, didn't you?

KADEN

(thinking)

Yeah.

OLIVIA

Oh my God! You are such a...

Kaden is looking at her confused.

OLIVIA (CONT'D)

She was filming a social

experiment!

Pause. Kaden is silent.

OLIVIA (CONT'D)

She will have a presentation about that at the university. On Thursday, 10 am. It's an open access seminar presentation. Everyone is welcome to attend. You can come and see for yourself!

Kaden is slowly realizing what he has done.

KADEN

I think I have made the worst

mistake of my life.

OLIVIA

You should have judged better than this, brother.

And she leaves.

UNIVERSITY. A BIG

LECTURE HALL:

Bree is presenting her social experiment. In her presentation, she proposes effective approaches and possible ways to fight d**g a***e problem by addressing questions of how to treat people with specific d**g dependencies and how to stop seeing them as scum of society and regard them not as lowlifes but as sick people and how to fight for their lives in order to integrate them back into society. Ultimately, she uses the scenes from her social experiment to demonstrate people's highly negative attitudes toward those suffering from d**g addiction. There are quite a lot of young people and professors in the audience. Olivia is here, too. And we see Kaden. He is at the door, listening to Bree's presentation, too. When he sees the scenes where Bree is playing an addict, the realization of his mistake becomes painful.

The presentation is over. People start leaving the hall. Some of them congratulate Bree before leaving. When Olivia turns towards the door to leave, too, she sees her brother. She comes up to him.

KADEN

(sad and broken)

Olivia, I will need your help.

OLIVIA

Sure, but first you have to at least apologize to her personally.

And she leaves putting a hand gently on his shoulder.

Now Bree is left almost alone in the hall. She is busy collecting her things, presentation files and etc. Kaden slowly walks down the stairs towards her. Bree sees his silhouette while he is approaching. When he stops near her she raises her head to see who it is. And now Bree is shocked. She sees the person she hates most now.

BREE

(angry)

What now? Came by to kick me out

of the university?

KADEN

(guilty)

No... I'm sorry. I don't know how to put this.. But I'm... I'm very very sorry. I got you all wrong. These scenes... I got them wrong. I saw you on the street on that day and I didn't know it wasn't...

I didn't know you were making a film, I thought you are an addict begging for money to buy drugs...

BREE

What? So all this time you thought I was an addict and that's why you treated me like trash?

KADEN

I'm sorry, I know it's all my

fault. I got it all wrong..

BREE

How can you judge a person by only seeing them once? And even if I am an addict, how can you treat me, how can you treat anyone like this? That's not fair! My presentation was just about the people like you!

KADEN

I know. Please... Please let me make it up to you. I feel so bad. I'm so terribly sorry for what I've done.

BREE

Just stay away from me!

And she leaves angrily. Kaden looks after her. He feels very uneasy and sorry.

THE COFFEE SHOP:

Bree and Olivia are here.

OLIVIA

Now I know why you were avoiding

me. Why didn't you tell me?

BREE

Olivia, please, let's not talk

about it. I just want to forget

about it.

(MORE)

BREE (CONT'D)

I've been really feeling bad since the day I met your brother.

OLIVIA

I know. I'm so sorry. I'm really sorry, Bree. I apologize on behalf of my brother.

BREE

You don't have to do that. Let's

just forget about it.

OLIVIA

But actually he is not a bad

person. It is just sometimes he

judges too quickly...

BREE

Olivia, please.

OLIVIA

Okay...

At this moment their friends come and join them.

A PUB. NIGHT:

Kaden is here with Zach. He is drinking. He is very sad.

Zach is trying to calm him down.

KADEN

I've done a horrible thing, Zach.

And I don't know how to fix it.

ZACH

Just go and apologize to her.

KADEN

You think I haven't tried? She doesn't want to hear me. She hates me! And she is right. I saw hatred in her eyes. I deserve it! There's no way to apologize for what I've done.

ZACH

Come on, you are not a bad guy. You just got it wrong. We all make mistakes.

KADEN

No, I shouldn't have. I should have understood that she is not that kind of girl at least when I saw her at our home, or when I saw her in the office. I should've checked first. But I fired her instead.

ZACH

Listen, if you feel so sorry and unhappy about this, just keep apologizing and she will forgive you. She will. Trust me. Every door will be opened if you keep on knocking.

Kaden looks at him. There's hope in his eyes.

THE COFFEE SHOP

WHERE BREE WORKS:

Kaden appears at the entrance, looks around and notices Bree. Then he enters and takes a seat near the front window. Bree notices him, too. Her facial expression changes as soon as she sees him. As luck would have it, she is the only unbusy waitress. The supervisor sends her to Kaden to take his order. She is not happy. But it is her job. So she unwillingly approaches his table to serve.

BREE

(annoyed)

What can I get for you, sir?

KADEN

Can we please talk?

BREE

No! So what will you have?

KADEN

Bree, please.

BREE

If you are not going to order

anything, then just leave!

And she turns to walk away from him. Kaden quickly stands up and grabs her hand gently.

BREE (CONT'D)

(gets angry)

Leave me alone!

28.

And when she pulls her hand away, her hand accidentally hits the another waiter passing by her. The waiter was carrying a tray with coffee cups and they all fall onto Kaden spilling hot coffee all over his shirt. The supervisor rushes up to them and starts scolding Bree.

THE SUPERVISOR

What have you done? Why aren't you a little more careful?

But Kaden stops him immediately.

KADEN

Please! It is not her fault! I did it! I stood up abruptly and accidentally knocked the tray onto myself! And I'm very sorry!

Bree just angrily walks away from them without saying anything. Kaden looks after her. The supervisor is still trying to fix the situation.

KADEN (CONT'D)

(to the supervisor)

No, really, I'm alright! Don't

worry, please!

And he leaves the coffee shop. Because he doesn't want to cause any more problems for Bree.
