Fire vs Thunder

Before Keith could know it, Jake was already creating two fireballs from his palms. The others watched with confidence, believing that Jake was going to beat Keith to stupor.

However, Keith only studied his moves and tried to create his own skill. String of thunder!

There was no doubt that fireballs are 1-star skill so Keith was relieved because his current skill was the same as that of Jake. Though he didn't guarantee his win, he knew that he had an equal chance of winning just like Jake.

Jake charged towards Keith with the whooshing fireballs on his palms. His speed was utterly incredible, though, it never stopped Keith from dodging the attack. Just as Keith dodged, he scowled and blinked his eyes.

"Yes," Keith requested.

[String of thunder activated].

Suddenly, lightning with a blue hue, like the structure of a tiny string, emerged from Keith's palm. It was thunder!

Just as Jake and the other boys noticed it, their mouths were wide open, shocked. Jake couldn't believe his eyes. True, they all saw when Keith's core was detected and confirmed as a Talentless core.

"What's happening?"Jake panicked. "This can't be!"

"I thought he was Talentless? What the hell am I seeing right now," the other boy, a chap with blonde hair, protests. Right now, they were totally stunned.

A slight grin appeared on Keith's face, noticing his bullies' astonishment.

Looking at the current skill he got, Keith wasn't quite amazed because he could only create a single string as a 1-star mage. Possibly, his Thunder Manipulation talent might exhibit a better thunder skill when he upgrades his skill to 2-star.

When humans awaken their talent, they can only get a skill that is associated with the kind of talent they awaken. For instance, for a Fire Manipulator like Jake, he can only have access to fireballs, firestones, fireswords, and anything that fire can be structured as.

Nonetheless, these skills could only be used when the Awakeneds upgrade their skill. In some cases, many Awakeneds can't upgrade theirs any further... This is definitely why there are stronger mages amongst the Awakeneds... Even if some are still of the same Talent rank.

"You punk! How come you have a talent? I thought your clan was cursed," Jake said, pointing the second finger of his right hand toward Keith's direction.

"You were right. Yeah, we were cursed... I mean, they were cursed, but I wasn't among the Cursed. How about I teach you some lesson for treating me badly lately," Keith said with a serious expression.

Instead of being as scared as Keith as anticipated, Jake laughed out loud. But this time, his two friends didn't join him laughing. Looking at their face, he saw an inevitable urge to run swiftly without looking back.

'Oh I get, their talent is bad enough to confront thunder.' Keith thought and returned his gaze to Jake.

At this moment, Jake had created fireballs again. However, Keith's thunder string was still rumbling around his palms like a thin rope.

Fire and Thunder, these talents are so tremendous that everyone would respect anyone in use of them. Even though Thunder Manipulation wasn't that famous among humans, they still believed that it was an incredible talent.

Now, Jake's friends would only watch the battle between these young Awakeneds.

Jake was the first to throw a fireball towards Keith's face. The gorilla fist-sized fireballs banged through a wall after Keith had dodged. Nevertheless, the heat of these hot balls was enough to burn his cheek a bit.

"Argh!" Keith yelled. He caressed the burnt part of his cheek, anger taking over his emotions.

Memories of Jake beating him up on his way back from the fruit fields, memories of Jake ripping off his hard-earned money after threatening to stab him. Then memories of when Jake's brother, a Silver-rank Awakened harassed Sage. Keith remembered all these occurrences.

This words: "I promise you, you will be my servant when I finally become an Awakened" made Keith depressed. Even if he was going to get hurt in the process, right now, Keith was ready to make Jake pay for what he had done.

"You humanly villain!" Keith growled and charged towards Jake. With the rumbling single string of thunder on his palms, Keith looked as though he was on a killing attempt.

Yet, that didn't stop Jake from responding to his move.

Keith threw the sparking thunder string towards Jake for the first time, but unluckily, he dodged the attack and sent a fireball. In this scene, Keith noticed something about Jake's skill. Jake couldn't create multiple fireballs at a time.

However, it seemed not to be surprising after all since it was normal. For new Awakeneds like them, they are likely to be at a 1-star skill grade at this point.

They continued to launch attacks. Fireballs after fireballs, thunders after thunders... Jake's friends were utterly amazed as they watched the mini battle between these two powerhouse. At a point, this battle became fun...

"Keith is incredible. I love his move," the third guy with short dark hair complimented with a smile on his face.

"Shut the hell up Drey," the blonde-haired guy shouted in anger, "Are you going to be happy if he ends up defeating Jake?" He asked.

Drey quickly changed his mood and frowned. Truthfully, it was going to be shameful if Keith ended up beating Jake. The Darned b***h's Son?!

Bang!

Just as they finished talking, they heard a huge bang on the floor. Their eyes widened when they saw their ever-praised Jake lying on the muddy floor, groaning in pain.

Keith was breathing hard, though, he still wanted to strike more thunder strings to weaken Keith.

Upon trying to create another string of thunder, a voice called from afar. Keith could tell that it was Sage's voice.

's**t. She will know about me having a talent,' Keith thought, regretful. He backed out and turned to face Sage's direction. Hilariously, Keith attempted to pretend as though he was hurt in his fist. Like he had punched Jake.

Perhaps she might not have seen him using magic.

But... The Immortal Mage System showed its mighty self to its host.
