Chapter 2

883 Words
No one knew how many countries my sister had hopped through to rush back home. Seeing me barely breathing, she assumed I had been brutally retaliated against by Shaun. My sister is a total overprotective sister bear and immediately started cursing. "f*****g hell, that bastard Shaun! Vile capitalist, perverted beast, how dare he lay a hand on a young girl..." When she had cursed her fill, she plopped down on the edge of the bed and started scolding me. "Sofia Lancaster, do you even have a brain in your head?" I mumbled under my breath, "I heard people saying you were pining after him and he wouldn't give you the time of day, so I wanted to help you out." My sister choked up, taking a deep breath to calm herself down. "Kiddo, as much as I love you, I still goddamn want to stay alive, okay?" I blinked rapidly. "In my eyes, you're a literal goddess descended from heaven. That schmuck would fold the second you so much as crooked your finger at him." At the banquet a few days earlier, I had seen it with my own eyes. Shaun, the man everyone else went out of their way to avoid, had fallen head over heels for my sister. My sister had even bragged about it to me back then. "Heir of the Philipps family, my ass. Pfft!" She was this close to blowing a fuse. "Do you have any idea your sister is just some new-money nobody who sells milk tea for a living?!" She was about to thump me, but when she saw my body covered in marks, her heart softened. "Um... Was Shaun Philipps really that worked up? He... you... You two used protection, right?" She looked at me, hope written all over her face. Tears started streaming down my face. "Beast!" The word was forced out between my sister's gritted teeth. "Bastard! Scumbag! Son of a b***h! f*****g asshole! I swear to God I'll f*****g kill you!" My sister was so furious she almost launched herself off the ground. I didn't dare tell her that I had been the one who threw myself at him. Someone else had spiked his drink, I just took the chance to snatch him up. He had been burning up all over at the time, and I figured I could let my sister try something new with him. Thinking back now, he probably just had a bad cold and a high fever. My sister was terrified I would end up pregnant, so she hurried to get medicine. "Get the morning-after pill. No, wait, getting a shot is safer." I buried half my face under the covers. "Sis, actually... I was on my safe period," I said. No sooner had the words left my mouth than I got a sharp flick to the forehead. "Don't you have any common sense? There's no such thing as a guaranteed safe period, got it?" My first taste of forbidden fruit was far from pleasant. That night, I hid under the covers scrolling through my phone. My best friend, Katie Sanders, invited me to dig into some gossip, reciting the title of a viral post online: "Wealthy Family Birthday Banquet: Eldest Grandson Shows Up Unbelievably Late. "These rich second generations get up to the wildest stuff. His neck was covered in marks. Can you even wrap your head around how wild it looks to have a bow choker paired with a suit?" I rolled over in bed. My best friend described the scene vividly. "He was tall and straight, cutting through the crowd, and walked unhurriedly up to his grandfather. The old man was absolutely furious, demanding to know why he had been out of contact. "The guy didn't care at all, and answered totally laid-back: I got a sugar mommy!" When she got to this part, she squealed like an overexcited chipmunk. "He's so unreal! That devilishly handsome face, paired with that silver butterfly choker, glinting coldly. I swear that man was sent to kill us! "The old man was absolutely livid, started chewing him out right in front of everyone, and then the birthday banquet ended early. He ordered the family's traditional disciplinary punishment be carried out." She sent me a candid photo. In the picture, the man was kneeling with his hands behind his back, his back as straight as a steel rod. I didn't even need to zoom in. I recognized Shaun at a glance. That old wealthy family's private punishment had left his entire back covered in blood, total backwards feudal garbage, that is! What shocked me most of all was that he was still wearing the butterfly bow choker I had locked on him! Struck by a sudden wave of guilt, I grabbed my phone. Messages from Shaun flooded in. Shaun: Did you leave in my clothes? My car's parked on B1, the keys are in the pocket. You can take it. Shaun: Selfie of the butterfly bow choker Shaun: Where's the key to the choker? I have a gathering later. Shaun: Stop messing around. This is a formal occasion, unlock it for me. Later on, he sent another message. Shaun: So you're just gonna hit it and quit it? Pretend nothing ever happened? You better hope I don't track you down!
