ALEXANDER “It was just a party Mum” I yelled back at her. Dad shakes his head disappointingly as he watches Mum yell at me. As usual. “yeah... a party with alcohol and girls. I expected better from you” “Did you really mum? Because all you and Dad talk about is how a burden I am” This is one one of the parties I wasn’t able to hide. “You know we want the best for you sweetheart” she says as she places her hand on my shoulder. “Get your hand off me” I shove her hand away. I walk out of the house raging. I hear her calling my name but I don't look back. I need space. I know exactly where to go. I walk on the streets trying to calm myself down. I know I shouldn’t get myself worked up over this. They do it all the time besides I have another party planned tomorrow, after school and there is nothing they can do about it. By the time I get back, no one seems to be home. I know they had to leave for work. It's how they are. The night is beautiful. I've always loved it. My younger self would always stare out the window curious about what I might see. It's not like that anymore but I look out the window, hoping to feel that same pleasure again. It is silent—apart from the cars driving past and the noises from the streets. I long for that. Peace. And rest of mind. Sometimes I wish they were around more. Or at least they were better parents. But they’re good. I’m good. We’re all good. That’s all we’ve ever wanted. To… be good. I'm too tired so I go to lay on my bed. My eyelids grow heavy. I’m exhausted. I shut my eyes, opening them the next morning. It's Monday. I do my normal morning routine, grab my car keys and exit my house. From the corner of my eye, I see a girl checking me out. She doesn’t notice I can see her staring. One of my many talents. I used that opportunity to study her for a moment. She has darkish blonde hair. She’s cute. I look away quickly and find my Porsche. I get in and drive away. I’ll flirt later. I get to school not long after. I stand in my lockers waiting for someone in particular. “Hi babe” a girl I had met at the party I threw on Saturday came up to me. I was too drunk that day to remember her name. “Hi,” I said with a smirk. I turn my head to face her. “So um.. I'll see you in class” She senses my impatience. “Sure” I reply. Too bad that isn't my plan. I heard the Janitor's office is free today. “Janet” I called for her. She is talking to some of her friends. She waves them away and comes up to me . “I think the Janitor wants to see you” “Okay” she winks at me knowing exactly what I mean. She goes in and I follow behind her. This is way better than class. Janet wasn't at the party last night. She doesn't know. At least not yet. She lifted her face up to me and I kissed her. Her lips were soft just as I remembered them from last time. The first time we ever made out was when we were on one of our schools extremely rare field trips. She sat next to me on the bus. I was saving those seats for Kelvin and the guys but she sat there first. She was just something else. And I liked it. "Did you lock the door?" I broke our kiss but she found my lips and continued. I wanted to double check but it slipped my mind. No one comes in here anyways. CHLOE The drive with Kate is mostly silent. She constantly turns her head to look at me, but I don’t look back at her. She may seem nice and all, but I know there’s evil in her somewhere. In no time We reach school. Kate had to get to work so I had to find my way myself. “Just take a few turns and you’ll find the principal’s office,” she said. As if it was that easy. I arrived a lot quicker than I anticipated. The school is huge, it definitely defined the large city. No one seemed to notice me as I wandered around the school hallways. I’m not complaining. I stop as I finally find a door. Maybe it's the principal's office. I feel relieved that all my searching and wandering around is over. I opened the door, forgetting to knock. “Woah,” I exclaimed. Alexander, I recognise him, is making out with some girl. I can't see her face but he has his head facing directly at me. His hands drop from her already scattered brown hair, from all the making out, and looks at me questioningly. I question myself too. What am I still doing here? The girl doesn’t look back to see who interrupted them. She grabs his neck and pulls his lips back to hers. I move backwards, slowly exiting the room and shutting the door behind me. I see the label in front of the door that says janitor’s office. How did I not see that before? I decided from then on to pretend that never happened. “There you are" I hear a feminine voice from behind me. “Miss Chloe Benjamin” she smiles brightly. She is dark skinned with black puffy hair. She has on a black skirt that falls just below her knees and her suit suited her perfectly. “Hey. You must be Mrs Rogers” I smile in return. She shows me to her office giving me a brief introduction about Pride high. The school was popular because so many famous people's kids come here to learn and have invested so much in making it what it is today. Yet what happened in that room is at the forefront of my mind. Who is he? And why was he making out with that girl? I turned my attention back to Mrs Rodgers as a pang of jealousy filled the inside of me. It isn’t jealousy, I correct myself. Mrs Rogers leads me to my class. It is big, almost all the chairs are empty. At least that’s one thing that’s the same. To my right is a girl who seemed to be smiling at everyone she had eye contact with. To my left there is an empty seat. Whoever sits there must not be in. “Alex really never comes to class,” she said, still smiling. He sits next to me? Really? I smile in return. She wore bright colours, In fact everyone did. The only reason I decided to wear them today was because Kate and her fiance had both gotten them for me. Just calling him that felt uncomfortable. But I couldn’t turn down nice clothes, even if they came from them. Next is science. ‘The subject for the smarts’ and I’m pretty damn sure whoever created science isn’t smart. I’ve always hated the fact that we had to do a project before the end of each grade. Last year was the worst. I somehow got teamed up with Brittany and some other dude. We were supposed to do a project on fingerprints. I’m glad that is over. I’d probably check out the library later. I hope they have some good books. We all leave for the science lab. I followed the girl as she talked to me. I soon find out her name is Emma and she talks a lot. She tells me about the good stores to go to and the really bad ones. She tells me where she lives and a bunch of other stuff. “There’s always a party every weekend that’s thrown by any of the students. Everyone is invited. Most people just show up” “So have you been to any of these parties?” I finally speak after a long while of listening. “Yeah.. once or twice I’d have to sneak out of my house because my mum doesn’t like me partying late at night. It’s not usually worth it anyways because all the guys want here is to get girls on their beds” she sounds sad. More like she is hurt and isn’t telling me everything. “Okay” I’m not one to ask about people’s feelings. “I like your fit by the way” “Thanks” Her mood suddenly changes. “I like yours too” I smile and we both giggle our way to class.
