Chapter 2 - Present Unlike the others, Alexander was already stretching when Penelope arrived in training... The young Alpha didn't like to waste time.  The sooner he finished, the faster he could go and help Alpha Joseph with the others. Opposite what many humans believed, Alpha's title wasn't hereditary; it wasn't passed from father to son. All werewolves, including Alexander, was born as omegas; as they grew, their rank in the pack changed. And in some situations, they can show dominance and strength, thus being possible Alphas, Betas, Gammas, and Deltas as adults. It was common cases in which a pack had more than 2 or 3 future Alphas, and these young people battle to see which will take the title, but... This wasn't Mingan's situation.  The other candidate eventually became a Beta after meeting Alexander. Both boys ended up becoming best friends in their teens, and a bond as Alpha and Beta were created naturally among them, defining the, until then, uncertain future of the Pack. "Is everybody here?" The Alpha called all members present to regroup before him and then explain how it would be training that day.  They would be divided into three different groups that would be led by him, his Beta, and Alexander... It wasn't difficult to know which group Penelope wanted to be a part of. "Alexander! Alexander! Alexander!" They were the only words in the mind of the young she-wolf in her small, desperate prayer. "Penelope!" Her father called her name. "You're in my group today." The smile on her lips soon became a pout, knowing she couldn't spend the rest of the morning beside her crush... "YAY!!! We will be able to spend the day together, Alex!" An annoying voice screamed, and Penelope could easily recognize from where it was coming...  As she turned toward Alexander's group, she could see the owner of the scream clinging to the young man's arm as she pressed her breasts against him and continued her commemoration. A wave of jealousy swept through her body, and Penelope could feel that the image didn't please her wolf side either, who wanted to tear apart the blond-haired girl...  She truly considered the idea for a few moments, but soon those thoughts changed as her brown eyes met Alex's blue ones. He continued to look straight at her, and Penelope could easily understand with lip-reading the word he was telling her... "O-ME-GA" And suddenly, he was the person she wanted to rip apart right now! ... For some time, they were walking through the forest, but that was the training of the day.  They should be able to hunt something without the help of the person in charge of the group as they were there just to make sure no one was hurt and to stay far from the boundary lines of the Mingan's territory, which in the vast majority ended up on roads near the humans' eyes. "Are you so upset about being in my group?" The Alpha asked in her mind. It was how they communicated when they were in their wolf or Werewolf form, but that ability didn't work when they were in human form. "That's not the reason..." Penelope knew why he'd asked her that, as for sure he'd noticed she was falling behind everybody else. "I just don't understand why he doesn't feel what I feel." "Well..." Her father started... "Alexander still can't hear his mate's heart, which is normal." "I know it, but..." "But do you still feeling that he's your mate?" "Yes..." The young she-wolf lowered her ears, and her father could hear the sadness in her voice... It was a good thing they were not in their human forms, or his daughter would have heard him sigh too for be worried about her. "Penelope, I believe you and I've seen similar cases in books I read, however-" "However, it doesn't mean that the others will believe in me too. I know, Dad." She quickly interrupted him. "It's just ... It hurts every time I see him touching or kissing someone other than me." The sadness was so great in his words that it would never have been possible for Joseph to think that it was a mere teenager's romance.  He watched the other Omegas from afar as he continued to listen to his daughter's words. "And... And when some girl flirts with him, I just want to make her disappear, among other bad things that go through my mind. I never thought of Alexander that way, but since I started hearing my mate's heart at 16, he's the only one that I think about, and it's no longer like in the past as my childhood friend or a silly rival..." The Alpha would tell her something when they were interrupted because one of the younger wolves with them ended up getting excited to see a rabbit. Running off behind the small animal and forgetting about others who were with him and had to run to follow him before something bad happened.
