Chapter 6: Proposal

After the dinner we all went home. I dropped Racheal at her place and without the usual smile on my face, I said good night. I got home, took a shower and laid down to sleep. But I just couldn't sleep as all I thought about was what my friends said. I felt so annoyed because of the way they bombarded me with questions, but what annoyed me the most was how I didn't know so much about a man I called my boyfriend. Immediately I took my phone and dialled David's number. On the first ring he picked up "hi babe" he said. I didn't even reply him, I just went straight to the point "we need to talk" I said. "Yes we do" he told me where and when and immediately cut the call on me. "How dare he" I thought, how could he cut the call on me. I felt so angry, that I wasn't able to sleep until 2am in the morning. I woke up the next day around 4am and prepared for work.

I got to work really early and even noticed that my secretary wasn't even here. Well it wasn't her fault, the normal time to get to work was 7am and I came as early as 5am. I just wanted to leave the house. I stayed in my office trying to prepare for the meeting our team had today. Later on I heard voices and checked the time, it was already six so I am guessing that should be the cleaning staff's. They came very early to clean the offices before everyone comes. Few minutes later I heard the door opening and my secretary walked in with a cup of coffee in her hand. She was shocked to see me sitting there " good morning ma, I didn't know you were inside". "I am so sorry if I frightened you, I came a bit early today". I said."Okay ma your coffee" she dropped it and left. After attending to some things i had the meeting with my team. It wasn't a long one since it was just for them to show me the designs. The designs were all beautiful and what Mr Evans wanted, Simple yet elegant. After the meeting I showed Mr Evans the designs and he was so happy. He told me that we can go ahead and start getting the materials together. I was happy that he was happy, because if he wasn't we would have had to redo the designs again which will be frustrating and tiring. I got to the office and saw a message from David. "Were are you" I checked the time and saw it was already 3pm which was the time we agreed to meet. Immediately I gave my secretary some instructions and left. On getting to the agreed place I see Dave sitting on a chair that was by the end of the garden. I walked up to him and sat down. "I am so sorry I'm late, I lost track of time". I said. He didn't even answer me and just said "just tell me what it was you wanted to talk about and be fast, I am a very busy man and you know". I looked at him and he wasn't even looking at me. "Speaking of knowing you, I do not know anything about you apart from what you do, where you live and your surname. "What else is there to know about me again" he said. "Dave you said you go to church, what church do you attend?, what did you read in school?, which school?, were?, I know your father who is late Mr frank Dipo, but I don't know who your mother or siblings are?. "Enough!!!!!! He shouted. "Is that the reason you said we needed to talk?. "Yes I answered, or isn't that reason enough". He stood up banged the table and pointed at me. "The next time you make me waste my time like this, you wouldn't like what I will do to you. He stood up and left abruptly. I tried to hold his hand but he slapped it off . I cried so much that my eyes were swollen, and I knew I couldn't go back to work like this so I gathered myself together and called my secretary told her I wasn't feeling to well and couldn't come back to work again. I went home and soaked my pillow, my eyes were to heavy to open, so I decided to close it for a while and I drifted to sleep. Few minutes later I was woken up by the door bell. I washed my face put on some powder and went to open the door. "Hi Clara" Racheal greeted. I was shocked to see her "Racheal you didn't tell me you were coming. "Must I tell my friend before coming to her house?. "I am just saying,what if I wasn't at home"." Well good question, Marie and I have been trying to reach you all day, but your phone wasn't going through so I decided to call your office line and I got to know that you were home. So Marie said I should come and check up on you". I forgot to remove my phone from DND. After the quarrel with Dave I put my phone on DND because I didn't want to answer any calls at all. "That reminds me, Racheal said coming closer to me. "Your secretary said you weren't well, what wrong with you?" "Nothing much just headache" I answered trying to hide my swollen eyes by bending my head. "Clara we're you crying" Racheal asked. "No I wasn't, something entered my eyes while trying to fix my room". I lied. Racheal lifted up my head quickly and when I tried to bring it down she held it in one place. "Clara you've been crying, see how red and swollen your eyes are, what happened?. Did something bad happen to your mum?. She asked. "No I answered". "Or is it your boss?" "No I still answered. "Then what is it, tell me". I couldn't hold it in anymore, I started crying. "It's Dave". "What did he do to you" she asked. "After you guys adviced me to ask him about himself, I did, but instead of answering me he shouted at me and told me that if I should ever make him waste his time like that again, I wouldn't like what he will do to me and I totally understand him because I was the cause, I asked him too many questions Racheal. Racheal hugged me and told me to stop crying. "Clara stop blaming yourself, you didn't cause anything, it's only right you ask him about himself since you two are on a relationship. if you know that this relationship is going to harm you, I advice you stop it". Meanwhile I will handle Dave. After staying with me for a while she went home. I didn't like the fact that she said she will handle dave, but I decided not to think much about it. Later that evening I called Dave to apologize for what happened earlier on and were okay.

When I saw how hurt Clara was I wasn't happy about it. The next morning I called Marie to tell her about it and together we agreed to go and see Dave. We got to the company and we were allowed in by the security men after telling them we had an appointment with Mr David. We were surprised they didn't confirm before letting us in, but what could I do but thank God. We entered the elevator to the first floor and on getting there we saw a lady at the desk. We walked up to her and asked if we could see Mr David, but she said we needed to get an appointment first. "Call him and tell him it's Clara's friends". "Okay ma" she answered. She placed a call to him and when he heard it was Clara's friends he asked for her to let us in. We were showed to his office, and when we got there we were told to sit down and wait for him. We took that time to admire his office as it was so spacious and furnished with expensive materials and art work. I mean I was an artist so i knew expensive art when I saw one. Few minutes later he entered. "Hello ladies ". "Dave how have you been" I asked. "I've been well thank you, so to what do I owe this visit". He said. "Well I am so sorry we visited you without prompt notice. We are Clara's friends, I am Racheal and she is Marie and we came to see you about Clara."okay what about her" he asked. "Clara has been hurt a lot by how you have been acting lately and we aren't happy whenever we see her sad, so please we've come to plead with you and ask you to leave Clara if you don't love her rather than play with her emotions". Marie said. He was silent for a while, then he later said "are you done?". We were shocked at the way he acted and before we could say anything he called security. "Please show them the way out, it seems they have forgotten, he turned to us and said "the next time you come to my office to say such rubbish I wouldn't be nice to you". We were escorted out of the company by the security and from then I knew Dave was not the one for Clara.

Clara's pov

The next morning my mum called me "mummy good morning ma" I said. "So you weren't going to call me until I call you ehhn"

"Mummy I was going to call you today until your call came in"

"I know you are just lying". She said.

" How can I lie mummy, when I've missed you a lot"

"Leave me jor, if you have, then you should have called me"

"Mummy so sorry I've been really busy with work.

"Too busy to call your mum.

"Mummy, If it makes you feel any better I will be coming to see you soon"

"When" she asked. "Very soon. Hw are you and Priscilla doing?. My mum was a widow, as she lost her husband fifteen years ago and has decided not to remarry. So it has been only my mum, me and my younger sister. My younger sister was now in her 4th year in school about to round up soon.

"We're fine. "Hw have you been"

"I've been good, just work, work ,work you know

" Don't allow work make you lose your husband ohh

"Mummy don't worry, I even have a new boyfriend now

"Are you serious. She said

"Yes mummy" I replied

"Chioma" she calls me with my tribal name in Igbo which means "God is good" only when she has something serious to say.

"As much as I want you to get a man and settle down, I do not want you to feel pressured and then make the wrong decision. Get a man that is God fearing, loves you as much as you love him, and is ready to settle down, don't rush things alright.

"Yes ma, I answered. By the way I will be coming with Dave to see you.

"Alright, it's high time I see the guy that has been keeping you busy.

"Mummy!!!. I shouted

"Okay okay okay I am hanging up, bye I love you"

"I love you too mum". I ended the call with the hope that I will really visit my mother.

As I dropped the call with my mum I heard my doorbell ring. I rushed to see who it was and half way to the door,I started hearing music from outside I didn't think much of it and just opened the door. I was surprised to see David with a group of instrumentalists, I was really surprised to see him here with instrumentalists, but I was shocked when he brought out the ring. "Omg he is really going to propose" my subconscious mind said. Clara peters will you make me the most happiest man by marrying me?. He asked.

So sorry this chapter was a bit rushed. Will try to do better in the next one.?
