chapter 7: What!!!!

Dave's pov

After the talk with Maria and Racheal I knew that if I didn't act fast I was going to lose Clara. So immediately I called my P.A and told him to get me an expensive ring and a group of instrumentalists. I planned on proposing to Clara before her friends get the chance to tell her anything. I didn't want them saying stuff's to her. I quickly left the office and headed to Clara's house. After that incident, she called me to apologize for making me angry that day, so we were now okay. I got to her house and the instrumentalists started playing. I rang the doorbell and waited for her to come out. I didn't need to knell down so I just held the ring and waited for her, as soon as she came out I asked her the question. "Clara peters will you make me the most happiest man by marrying me?." The reaction on her face was that of excitement, and after a while she said "yes". I put the ring on her hand and we hugged, I was about to kiss her when she dodged it. "Why did you dodge the kiss?" I asked. "Dave I think we should take things slowly until we get married. "Take things slowly" I thought. "Okay" I answered. I didn't need to stress much on the topic since I knew that was going to end very soon since she was now my fiancee. After the engagement I took her to a very classic restaurant, so that we could celebrate the engagement. We had sea foods and some other delicacies that where being served together. In between the meal Clara's phone rang, and she was about to pick the call, when I collected the phone from her and told her to keep on eating. She looked at me angrily but didn't say anything, I kept her phone close to mine on the table and we ate our food in silence. I knew very well she was angry with me, but I didn't care, because she wasn't meant to pick the call while eating. I mean that was bad eating habits right?. We finished the dinner on a very bad mood and Clara didn't even finish her's. Immediately we entered the car I told the driver to take us to Clara's house so that we can drop her off. I didn't go with any of my body guards since it was our engagement celebration and I didn't want eyes on us. While in the car, we didn't say a word to each other until she finally spoke"Dave what was the meaning of that?" She asked "of what" I asked back pretending I didn't know what she was talking about. "Of what you did in the restaurant, why did you collect my phone like that while I was about to pick up a call?" She was almost yelling and I didn't like the tone she used with me, so i shouted at her"tone Clara!!!, don't you dare speak to me like that again. We had already gotten to her house but because of the argument we were having she didn't get down yet. "I will speak to you the way I want because you had no right to collect my phone like........... She was cut short as I raised my hand to slap her but immediately put it back . I saw the look on her face and immediately she dragged her phone from my pocket and dropped from the car without saying anything. I didn't want to get any more angry than I already was so I told the driver to drive me home. On my way home I called one of my old time acquaintance who I had a one time fling with to keep me company. Now I didn't believe in being tied down to one woman especially since I couldn't get it from Clara, so i didn't see anything wrong with having a time to time fling with one or two ladies. I just hope this will help ease the tension within me.

Clara's pov

After what Dave did both in the restaurant and in the car I couldn't spend another second with him, so I immediately came down from the car angry. I opened my door and got into the house and when I switched on the lights to my surprise I saw Racheal and Marie in my house. I mean I was surprised to see her, but I wasn'that shocked since I knew Racheal had a spare key to house. "Where are you coming from" Marie questioned. "You guys need to stop doing this before you give me a heart attack and where did you guys pack your car's. " We came together in Marie's car and she packed it along the road, but Clara that doesn't answer the question" Racheal said. "We heard a car drive in and drive out and we also saw your car parked on our way in, so I am sure you didn't go out on your own, was it Dave?" Racheal asked. "Yes it was Dave and guys I need to tell you something" I said. I knew telling them I was engaged was going to drive them crazy but I just had to tell them. "I'm engaged" I finally released the bomb. "WHAT!!!!! They shouted in unison. "How?, when?, where?, to who?. Marie asked. I knew that Marie detective instincts had kicked in and every where was tensed up so I tried to lighten up the mood. "It's not that serious, besides its just this morning he proposed to me". I said, but they weren't having it. "Dave right?" Marie asked. "Yes, he told me that he wants to marry me and I said yes. I told them. Clara do you know that Dave doesn't love you, he just wants to control you and you are falling right into his trap. Marie said. "Marie stop, don't say that, Dave loves me if not why will he then engage me?" "Because he wants to keep you tied down Clara". Marie said. "No he doesn't and I love him so I hope you guys respect my decision. I said I didn't know why they always didn't trust my judgement."Clara the love you have for him is one of desperation, you are not loving him because you want to, you are loving him because you feel time is not on your side anymore and you need to settle down before you turn thirty". Racheal said. "I do want to settle down before I turn thirty, but that doesn't mean I'm desperate". I said. "Clara we've said all we can, now it's left for you to decide what you want. I hope you don't repeat the same mistake you did with Austin". Marie said. Austin was my old time friend who I dated, but we broke up because he cheated on me. After that particular relationship I lost confidence in my self and felt like I wasn't enough for any man, because I had many failed relationship before I met Austin and all were broken because of cheating. So I met Austin who I thought will be different and started dating him but he turned out to be like the others. Marie and Racheal left shortly after the talk and I was left alone to my thoughts. Deep within me I knew I didn't love Dave anymore especially since the time he started displaying some funny characters, but I needed to settle down and start my own family before I turn thirty which was like in one year seven months from now. I was the first child and daughter of my family and I should have been already settled down if not for all my failed relationships. Marie and Racheal always told me that I didn't always have a good relationships because I always didn't involve the spirit of God, but I felt like I didn't need to since, I could just see it from their behaviours and then know the right one for me. I later slept of after having custard and bread for dinner. The next morning I went to work early to clear the pile of files on my table. After that I was informed that the materials for the designs had been brought, so I went to make sure everything was In place. I was busy for three days trying to sort out the materials with my team. I always went to work early and came back late. So I always didn't have time to eat good meals. So on a Thursday afternoon It was my break time, I decided to go and see Dave since we hadn't spoken since the restaurant incident.
