The Beginning
Natalia’s POV
“What?! No! This cannot be.” I silently lamented, staring at the guy in front of me.
It was the first day of my senior year and my eighteenth birthday. I was so excited to find my mate, fervently hoping that I would leave this place full of hurt and bullying behind me, but I thought wrong.
And to my greatest shock, it was him. The same guy that always enjoyed bullying me, was my mate, and by the smug look on his face, I could tell he was not delighted by the news either.
Eric, being the Alpha’s son with an insatiable ego was the main lead in my bullying. With tears in my eyes, I reminisce on how it all began.
I had just transferred to this school, and I was so excited to make new friends and start a new chapter in my life. I didn't know that being an Omega would make that impossible. It seemed like everyone could smell my status, and they all looked at me with disgust.
It was during lunchtime when Eric first approached me. He had his friends with him, and they all looked like they were up to no good. Eric sauntered over to my table and slammed his hands down on it.
"Well, well, well, what do we have here?" he sneered, looking down at me. "A pathetic little Omega all alone on her first day. How sad."
I tried to ignore him, but he wasn't having it. He grabbed my tray and dumped the contents onto my lap, making everyone in the cafeteria laugh. And all I wanted at that point was to crawl into a hole and disappear.
From that day on, it only got worse. Eric and his friends found every opportunity to harass me, emotionally and physically, and every single day, I would cry at home.
“What do you think you’re doing?” A menacing voice brought me out of my daydream and I looked up, only to meet the eyes of my number one bully—Eric.
“N-Nothing.” I stuttered while shaking my head, avoiding looking into his eyes.
“Look at me, Natalia.” He commanded, and I dared not to refuse. I looked at him, but the look in his eyes made me shudder.
I am doomed. I muttered silently as my knees wobbled but I managed to keep a straight face.
He took a step closer, making me flinch, “Meet me in the locker room during the break. Don’t be late, Natalia.” He warned.
I could only nod, and as if on cue, the bell rang.
Saved by the bell. I let out a sigh of relief as I hurried to class.
I could not concentrate, all I could think about was the possibility that he would force me into mating with him and I would be stuck with him forever.
I didn’t want that but with each passing second, it was starting to dawn on me that this might just be another chapter of pain for me. I sobbed silently while the teacher went on teaching. I was hurting, but no one saw that or they didn’t care.
A couple of minutes later, the bell rang and I draped my bag over my shoulder as I walked as slowly as I could towards the locker room.
He was waiting for me already, I could smell him. I wanted to turn back and run out of that wretched place, but I couldn't. I needed to know my fate, whether my mate, Eric, would accept or reject me.
The mere thought of his name and the future we had together felt like a nightmare.
I could feel more tears threatening to break free from their confinement, my eyes were probably already red and swollen from crying in class before coming here.
"You're here." Eric smiled at me for the first time and I almost fell for it. It was sincere, I knew it was sincere but I couldn’t let him fool me.
"Will you accept me as your mate?" It wasn't a question though, he was stating it and my only choice was to comply.
He was an Alpha and a bully. It was hard not to think of him as a monster.
Not when I had witnessed his crimes firsthand, with my own eyes, he’d taken the spark away from me and I saw my life seep out slowly.
"Yes Eric, I accept you," I said, choking back a sob.
With those words, he pulled me close by his waist and looked straight into my eyes.
"Natalia, You'll be a good mate won't you?"
I couldn't speak, I was too afraid, I just nodded my head.
After a series of nods, I stood on my tiptoes and placed a gentle kiss on his lips. Surprisingly, his lips were soft. All too soon I pulled back from him, but before I could make another move, he landed a slap on my face, causing me to fall to the ground, and before I knew it, the room was filled with Eric’s friends, and it could only mean one thing.
"I am not weak like the losers you hang out with. Oh wait, you have no friends." I heard him say as his friends laughed
I was too stunned to speak, so he continued,
"Next time, when you want to kiss me, ask for permission.”
With that, he made to leave, but he turned before he could reach the door.
“Did you seriously think I would accept you as my mate?” You are nothing, you Omega w***e!” He spat.
Right on cue, his girlfriend, Melissa, made her way through the crowd and she slapped me as hard as she possibly could, relishing in my pain.
“You are nothing but a useless b***h! You are good for nothing! I got better things to do than to mate with you!” Eric kicked me in the stomach, and the others saw it as the go-ahead to beat me mercilessly.
“I, Eric, reject you, Natalia, as my mate from now till eternity.”
It was done and he left with his girlfriend, but his friends continued to unleash their fury on me.
The beating lasted for what felt like hours, it was painful but I could not even cry, I just laid there while they carried on and hurled insults at me. For what? For existing.
The day lasted longer than I anticipated, but with pain, I attended all my classes, even though I learned nothing. As soon as the bell rang, I ran like my tail was on fire, I couldn’t stay behind to risk another beating.
“Oh Goddess, Natalia! What happened sweetie?” My ever-loving mother asked, fussing over me, as she inspected my body for any visible scar, not that she would find any, I already healed.
The scar that was left was imprinted on my heart and I don’t think I’ll be healing from the heartbreak any time soon.
“It’s nothing, mum. Can we just go home?”
As soon as I said that, I could feel someone’s eyes on me.
I turned around only to see Eric’s green orbs staring intently at me, probably listening in on our conversation to find out if I would tell her what happened in school.
“Natalia,” She said sternly, her eyes narrowing.
“Please, mum. Can we just go?” With pleading eyes, I begged my mother as she drove us out of the school.
“Do you want to talk about it?” My mum asked after a few minutes of uncomfortable silence.
I didn’t reply and simply stared out the window, so she asked again,
“Are you being bullied Natalia, I thought about it for a long time and I can’t see another reason why you would look like this nearly every day after school. You can talk to me, baby.”
I turned to face her and I could see that she was close to tears and that was all it took for my walls to come crashing down.
I opened my mouth and told her everything, I deliberately left out the part about finding a mate or my mate being Eric.
“I need to speak to the principal, Natalia. This can’t go—“
“It is okay, mum. I will be fine.” I mustered a small smile to erase the look of concern off her face. “Tell me about what you’ve been up to lately.”
I didn’t want to involve her in my mess. I could take care of myself without getting her into this. My attempt to change the topic seemed to work as she started rambling about something in particular and I completely tuned out until one of her statements caught my attention.
“So I found my new mate.” The excitement that rolled off of her was catchy, I had to look at her.
“Oh my goodness, mum! That is great news.” I gushed.
“I know, baby. What’s even more exciting is that we are all meeting today, with his sons.”
Then the confusion rolled in. “His sons?”
“Yes, Natalia. My mate is Robert, the Alpha of the Dark Moon pack.”
“What?!”
