"I'd rather not talk about it" she said softly. "I'm sorry Mrs. Molly but I'll take your leave now." Mrs. Molly nodded. "Honey, don't you miss him?" Mrs. Molly asked, as she walked ahead.
"I don't, Mrs. Molly" she replied after some time. She kissed her cheek and said goodbye. "Isn't that obvious Mrs. Molly?" intervened Nick looking cold.
His hands were folded across his chest. He had been standing there listening to their conversation, the whole time! She felt nervous looking at him. But why should she?
It's not her fault that they were living separately. Just as she turned to go, she heard Nick. "The thing Mrs. Molly, is that you won't be disappointed because she is staying here" he said firmly looking into Honey's eyes.
"You can't decide for me, Nick!!" she said angrily. "The hell with you I'm staying" she spat out and turned to go. But the next few words stopped her from taking another step.
He had said "Your boss seemed very happy for receiving the contract, Honey!" She spun around. She looked at him trying to decide whether or not he was telling the truth.
"But you walk away now and I'll be more than happy to inform him that the deal is off. I would definitely tell him you were the reason. Think of it Honey" he smiled devilishly.
She wanted to punch him in the face. "And what would you tell him? That I didn't want to stay with you?" she scoffed, smiling satisfactorily, as he didn't reply.
Nick shot up his brow. "You think I'll have to explain anything? Anything at all?" he laughed and it made her stomach knot.
"I'll just have to tell him it was you and that won't work very well in your favor, will it?" he had a satisfying smile.
"What? Oh great! I thought you were going to get me fired? Not so powerful after all eh?"
"Do you really want me to?" he asked, laughing. "You know I could. And what a wonderful idea" he smiled sarcastically.
"Go ahead, I don't care. I have my friends who don't abandon me when I need them" she hissed. He clearly did not miss what she was trying to imply. She regretted saying that when his expressions changed.
"How about both of you land up on the road, homeless?" he knew that got to her.
Mrs. Molly tried not to smile. Nick was trying to rile Honey until she came and stayed with him. Only she knew how Nick had became when Honey left. She had seen him drink himself to sleep. She had seen him crying for Honey, asking what he had done for Honey to walk away. She had seen him search for Honey, days together without food.
"You wouldn't dare!" Honey squealed. "Try me" he said looking very determined.
The nerve of the man! No. I bet he wouldn't. He just wouldn't. I don't think so!
Honey smiled at Mrs. Molly before walking out, not sparing Nick a glance. She was forced to look at him when he caught hold of her wrist firmly.
"I said I won't let you walk away just like that. No explanation, nothing. I didn't know where you were or what happened to you. I want you to stay with Mrs. Molly and me" he said tightening his grip.
"Aww. How desperate of you" she said, he deserved to get hurt after what he had done to her.
He sucked in a breath. Wow she had turned cold. Or maybe he had created an illusion of her in his head that she was perfect, in the first place. "Fine. I offer you a job at my place, three times your current salary. Come work for me. Your current boss doesn't deserve the efforts you put in. And if he fires you just because I cancelled the deal, what does that say about him?"
She turned away. "What on earth makes you think I'll work for you. And you won't get me fired. We both know you're bluffing"
"Fine then. I promise you, you'll come back to me" he said, his voice assuring. He let her go.
"Take her home" he said to his driver and walked inside. She clearly denied. "Otherwise you'll lose your job" he said arrogantly from inside. The driver pleaded her and she sat inside.
Her friend was awake when she reached her apartment. "You back?" asked Emily, lifting her head from her book. "Umm.. Yeah. My friend was a little busy. She just didn't want to admit"
Honey Smiled and went to change. She tried to sleep, without any success. It had been five long years since she had seen him. She missed him immensely.
No explanation? What did he want her to say? You fell out of love with me so I'm leaving? Maybe she should have. Ir was in the past now. It was his mistake. She wasn't ready to forgive him yet. She sighed. She thought about what he had said.
Would he really get me fired ?
He had the power to do anything he wanted. He was one of the richest men, she knew that. He owned half the country. Good thing she left maybe, he worked hard and now a millionaire.
He was trying to control her and she would never allow that. She closed her eyes and tried to sleep. She didn't know how tired she was and how easily she fell asleep.
She got ready and left to work the next morning. She hoped that Nick hadn't called off the deal else she'd definitely be fired. She walked in and found her boss at the door.
"Come in. My cabin" and walked off.
I'm fired.
She walked in. "Sit down Honey" he said shutting the door. She didn't like that.
Seems to good to be true! Why is he so calm? Calm before the storm?
"Congrats Honey!" he smiled. She hadn't expected this, like at all. "You've done a very good job. I'm so happy that you've been promoted."
What was going on? Was she dreaming? He smiled and offered her coffee. She hesitated to take it. When she reached to take it, he moved it away.
"What is wrong with you?!" he screamed on top of his voice. "I told you that was a very important deal. You screwed it up." She was sure she's awake.
"You are FIRED!! Get out of this place.
"Sir... " she started but he cut in.
"Just GET OUT!!" That was all she could take. She wasn't going to listen to anymore nonsense. She got up and walked out. Maybe Nick was right, this guy didn't deserve her as an employee. She put her best efforts to make everything run smoothly in her office. Meh. She was planning on quitting anyway, so big deal.
