“What?! How did you know that?“ I asked, alarmed.
“Your documents, your full name is boldly written there. And I can read.“ He smiled satirically.
“I did think you were part of the population that minds their business.“
“Well now you know I am not. You don't look like you belong to a wealthy family.“ He said. “You look normal. A normal pretty nerdy girl who loves boy clothing. I guess I was wrong when I said you couldn't purchase a new phone. Next time I won't judge by appearance.“ He said, purposely irking me.
“Do judge by appearance. I am still a broke ass girl, my father being rich doesn't make me rich.“
His phone rang, I spied on who it was and it was Natalie and was a video call.
He slid the answer button.
“Hey, what's up? Are you done?“ He said to her.
She ignored him for a slight second and waved at me.
“Hi Marie.“ She smiled. I reciprocated waving back at her.
“My mom called. The babysitter won't be able to make it so I have to pick that little devil from his daycare and change his diapers I guess till Mom is back”
Nathan muffled a chortle at her, his expression changed when she glared at him. “Greet my good man for me.“ He said, his lips spread in a small beautiful smile, it made his eyes twinkle. I glanced away from his face, finding it odd I wanted to steal one more glance at him.
“Marie, are you done?!“ Natalie turned her focus to me.
I shook my head lightly. “Yes for now. I await my call for clearance.“
“I hope Nathan didn't trouble you?“ She narrowed her stare at her bulky cousin. How she manages to scare him despite their huge height and age difference gets me all the time.
“He did.“ I said as a matter of fact. A confused look etched on Nathan's face.
“You shouldn't lie unprovoked like that.“ He said through gritted teeth in a whisper.
“He is still troubling me, he saying such terrible things. Have him slain this night.“ Nathan's mouth opened like a fish in defence of my accusations but no words came out.
“You won't hear from him again.“ Natalie promised me. A part of me did feel sorry for him. Almost.
“Although, cousin you can redeem yourself, you still have some hours to do so. Marie tell me if he tries to trouble you more.“
I nodded diligently at her. “I sure will.“
After the call was ended. Nathan glared at me.
“For someone so small and sweet you are really scared of her.“ I chuckle.
He sighs, “For someone so small she is mighty. And sweet?! Ha! You must be blind oh I forgot you are!.“ He throws another shade at my four-eyes situation.
“I can't wait till Natalie wipes that smug off your face.“
“It's worth it if you are at the receiving end on my side.“ He pinched my cheeks softly.
His huge hand framed mine once again and he dragged me to come along. For a little while I felt I was in the air, I was that weightless in his hold.
“When are you going home?“He asks.
“Micheal had a little side appointment so I guess I will be going home myself.“ I said cutting off my family issues out of my response
“Micheal?“ He raises his thick brows, swiping his curls back in the slightest, ruffling them a bit.
I purse my lips hesitant to answer.
“Your boyfriend?“ He asks one more time.
“No, my family driver.“
“Oh,” he says.
I saw relief shine on his face, confused. “Yeah. So where are you taking me to?“
He peels my glasses out of my eyes. “
To an optometrist.“
I poke him in the arm. “ You don't have to make me completely blind to respond to a simple question. Why are you taking me there, to have my eyes removed?“
“Yes. You are an accurate guesser.“ I could hear the smile in his voice. I was partly irked for imagining his perfect teeth spread out into a cute small smile in my head, his eyes twinkling at me.
He put back my broken lenses and dragged me to a car. I wasn't a car girl, I hardly know what brands exist but I know a Rolls Royce when I see one.
Natalie did say he can afford to buy a new iPhone tens of them. Being broke is my personality at this point.
“Are you k********g me?“ I say as he sits me down on the front seat and leans across me strapping me in. He was a bit too close I noticed, my nostrils had a huge whiff of his spicy cologne.
“I do need a tape and a rope yeah? Next time I guess“ He asks, playing along.
At least we got each other backs for little taunts

I exited the doctor's office with my newly prescribed glasses the doctor knows Nathan. He is using contacts, transparent ones and can't wear glasses because he plays football.
Very bold of him to tease me for being blind without my lenses when he is just like me.
It was evening already. I didn't plan on going home yet but I don't want Micheal freaking out or getting into trouble with Mr Romano. I did promise to get home on time.
I stand in front of Nathan, looking quite small as usual. I guess I should express gratitude for his kind gesture of getting me new glasses.
“Thank you.“ I said timidly. He gives me his little smile, and I swear my stomach sinks for a brief second.
“It's unlike you to be grateful.“ He teases. For the third time today, he wraps his hand around mine. He was way too comfortable doing that and it made me uncomfortable but in the best way possible.
I look at the time on my phone ignoring the little swirls his thumb drew on my palm.
I look up at him, “Do you know where I can find a bus station?“
“You are Romano's daughter, what do you need a bus for?“ He said as we descended the stairs.
“To go home. You are a spoilt rich brat aren't you?“ I peered sternly at him.
“You are talking like you don't have the same childhood as a spoilt little brat.“ He scoffs, grossly annoyed.
“That's because I didn't, everyone is shocked as hell Mr Romano has a second daughter or I am his daughter. Because he or his money was never present in my life growing up. I grew up riding the subways and cheap smelly buses.“ I blurted out, having reached my breach. Mr Romano's daughter this, Mr Romano's daughter that.
My breathing was erratic and I felt tears spilling from underneath my glasses.
I loosened Nathan's grip on my hand and sauntered forward desperate to be alone but he was too quick and fast.
He caught up with me, I fell right into his arms and felt his strong biceps engulf me in a comfortable hug.
I felt like falling right into him. My skin relished being close to him, his chest cradled my head and I heard his erratic heartbeat moving in synchrony creating a rhythmic melody but I refused to admit he had any effect on me. It's even silly of me to have a crush on a boy I wanted to kill this afternoon.
“I do deserve Natalie putting a knife in my chest this night.“ He says regrettably.
I said nothing and stayed completely still as he wiped my tears rolling down my cheeks.
I tried to unwrap myself from his hold, but he held on still. The flutters in my belly were getting fiercer. It scared me slightly, I haven't had a boy that has had such an effect on me since third grade.
“I have to start going, thanks for getting me new glasses, I appreciate it. “ I say expecting him to let go.
“I will drop you off at home.“ He offers. I blinked at him, surprised he was offering that.
“I don't need you to be nice to me. Really, I don't need your pity.“ I say averting my face from his line of sight.
“I am not in any way pitying you. I just want to spend a little more time with you. You are less scary than Natalie.“
I tried so hard to hide my blush from him but this time it wasn't my stomach that fluttered time it was my heart. My grace was, that it was a little dark so he couldn't see my face fully. I was beet-red
“So you are offering to be my driver for the night in exchange for my company?“ I said as I resumed being silly. My foul British accent made it thrice as funny.
“Yes ma'am.“ He admitted.
“Very well then.“
∆∆∆
I recognized the familiar turns and curves to the lonely street that housed Mr Romano's Mansion.
It seems as though Nathan knows there without the help of the GPS.
He soon stopped in front of the secured gates.
“You located this place quite easily.“ I said impressed.
“My father is a business associate and acquittance of the Romano's. I think it's fair I know where he lives “
He switched his ignition off. “I guess it's time for me to let you go.“ He said.
I unlocked my car strap, “Thanks for driving me home. I will plead on your head so Natalie would spare you.“ I say.
“I would appreciate that.“ I smile at him, my right hand was about to push my door open when he held me back.
His golden sunny eyes softened slightly, as he peered into mine.
“You have something in there.“ He whispered.
“What?!“ I said alarmed but my voice remained low.
He rubbed at the stale tears caged underneath my glasses, wiping them off. Warmth filled my face as his hands instead of going off my face rubbed gentle circles around my cheeks.
“You should let me go now,” I suggested in a whisper, nervous at how close we were.
I studied every inch of his face under the fluorescent lights in his car, our breathing stuck in the same rhythm. The air between us charged more than normal.
His eyes lowered to my lips and I subconsciously licked over it. A silly mistake.
My lungs were reduced of the air in them as I was immediately breathless when his lips brushed against mine hungrily capturing my lips in a firm but gentle way. His huge hands framed my face and bringing it closer to his face, our noses mushed against each other He kissed me with a hunger I hadn't experienced before, his lips breaking the weak resistance I put out to prevent him. No man or boy has kissed me before. He was my first kiss? Slow realization hit.
I panicked internally and pushed him away. My heart raced at the roof of my ribcage. What just happened?!! My brain could not comprehend this situation. I slipped out of his hold and pushed the car open, without a pause I walked out of his car ignoring his calls. I walked as fast as I could towards the gate, confusion reeling through my head and senses. One thing I was certain of feeling was the tingles and sparks on my lips, they were never-ending.
