Chapter 6

Jane’s POV I could hear things… faintly. Voices. Footsteps. Shouting somewhere far away. But everything felt heavy, like I was trapped underwater. The last thing I remembered was fear. Alpha Logan’s room. His presence. Then nothing. Slowly, I forced my eyes open. The room above me was unfamiliar. Clean. Soft lighting. Medical equipment stood beside the bed, blinking quietly. My heart jumped. *Where am I?* For a brief moment, panic gripped me. Was I still trapped? I tried to sit up, but my body felt weak, as though every ounce of strength had been drained from me. A dull ache spread through my muscles. Just as panic started rising in my chest, the door suddenly opened. A man rushed inside. Tall. Powerful. Beautiful in a way that made it hard to breathe. His dark hair was slightly messy, as if he hadn't slept properly in days. The moment he stepped into the room, his scent hit me. Warm. Strong. Safe. Something deep inside me immediately responded. He stopped abruptly when he saw my eyes open. Relief flooded his face. “Jane!” His voice carried so much emotion that it stunned me. He crossed the room in seconds. “Are you okay?” he asked urgently. “Are you hurt? Do you feel any pain? Should I call the doctor?” I blinked at him. Still amazed by the man standing before me. “I... I'm fine,” I whispered. Only then did he slow down. He released a breath, almost as though he had been holding it the entire time. Then he gave me a small, awkward smile. “I should introduce myself properly.” He stepped back slightly and offered his hand. “I’m Benjamin.” I froze. Benjamin. The Lycan Prince. The future ruler of the Lycan Kingdom. My mind struggled to process it. Of all the people I could have woken up to, it was him. Before I could react, he added quickly, “You don’t need to bow.” My body instinctively tried anyway, but he gently stopped me. “I said don't.” His tone wasn't harsh. It was protective. Almost caring. The realization left me speechless. No one had ever spoken to me like that before. No one had ever cared whether I was comfortable. Before I could say anything else, my wolf stirred inside me. Lillian. Excited. Restless. Then suddenly she practically screamed. “Jane!” “What?” “He's our mate!” My breath caught. My eyes widened. Everything clicked into place. The pull I felt. The comfort. The way his scent wrapped around me. The warmth spreading through my chest. It was him. My mate. A tear slipped down my cheek before I even realized I was crying. “Jane?” Benjamin stepped closer immediately. Concern filled his face. “What’s wrong?” “Did I upset you?” I shook my head quickly. “No.” My voice cracked. “It’s just... today was supposed to be my birthday.” His expression softened instantly. I swallowed hard. “I woke up this morning excited.” “And hoping to find my mate” A bitter laugh escaped me. Images flashed through my mind. The fear. The humiliation. The helplessness. Everything that had happened earlier that day. My chest tightened painfully. “But instead everything almost went wrong.” Benjamin's jaw tightened as though hearing that hurt him. I lowered my eyes. “I thought nothing good ever happens to me” Another tear rolled down my cheek. “But today…” I looked up at him. “And then I found you.” His eyes softened. “So maybe I was wrong.” A small smile trembled onto my lips. “Maybe good things can happen to me after all.” For a moment, Benjamin simply stared at me. Like he couldn't believe what he was hearing. Then he slowly reached for my hands. His touch was warm. Gentle. As though I were something precious. “I woke up today thinking I was only here on official duty,” he said quietly. “But I was wrong too.” His fingers tightened around mine. “Because I found you.” Emotion flickered across his face. “Jane, you don't know how long I've waited for you.” A broken laugh escaped me. “You're a prince.” I shook my head slightly. “I don't understand how any of this is real.” “It is,” he said softly. His gaze never left mine. “And I'm sorry for everything you've been through.” The sincerity in his voice nearly broke me. “I wasn't there when you needed help.” His expression darkened. “But I promise you this.” “Anyone who caused you pain will answer for it.” The protectiveness in his words made my heart ache. “No one will ever hurt you again.” And for the first time in my life, I believed someone. Not because he was a prince. Not because he was powerful. But because when he looked at me, I felt seen. Valued. Important. I leaned slightly into him without thinking. And he didn't move away. Instead, he pulled me closer. Protectively. Like it was the most natural thing in the world. Like I finally mattered. As I rested against him, listening to the steady beat of his heart, a feeling I had never known before settled inside me. Hope. Real hope. For the first time in my life, the future didn't seem frightening. And somehow, deep down, I knew that from this moment forward, everything was about to change. For the better.
