Chapter one: the beginning of fate
Jane’s POV
It was Monday morning, and pale sunlight slipped through the torn curtains of my tiny room, landing softly on my face.
Too soft for a life like mine.
I sighed and forced my eyes open.
Another day in the Golden Moon Pack.
I sat up slowly on my narrow, creaking bed, my body already aching before I even stood. The room smelled of damp wood and old dust, just like everything else I was forced to live in.
I was an omega.
Not just any omega—but one who could almost pass as pretty if I wasn’t always covered in dirt, bruises, and exhaustion from endless chores.
A slave.
That was my role in this pack.
My parents had once belonged here too. I didn’t know the full story, only fragments whispered like curses whenever I passed.
“Disobedient bloodline.”
“Outcast family.”
“Traitor’s daughter.”
That was what they called me.
Then one day, rogues killed my parents.
And instead of letting me go, the pack kept me.
They turned me into their servant.
Every dirty job. Every insult. Every punishment no one wanted to take responsibility for—it all belonged to me.
A sharp voice shattered my thoughts.
“JANE!!!”
The housekeeper.
My body reacted before my mind did.
I jumped up, grabbed my worn working clothes, and rushed to get dressed. There was no time to be slow in this place.
My eyes flicked to the narrow c***k beside my door.
The hidden passage.
My only secret.
I slipped into it quickly, moving through the cold, tight space until I reached the lower hallway that led toward the kitchen.
Safe.
For now.
When I stepped out, the kitchen was empty.
Good.
I grabbed my cleaning tools and got to work immediately.
The entire pack house was in chaos today.
The Lycan Prince was coming.
Prince Benjamin.
Even hearing his name made the air feel heavier. No one was relaxed. Everyone was either shouting orders or running around like their lives depended on perfection.
And me?
I was cleaning everything they would never touch.
I had barely started scrubbing the floor when a harsh voice cut through the hallway.
“You there!”
I froze.
Two omegas stood behind me. One of them, Mara, always looked for reasons to make my life worse.
She walked closer, eyes scanning me like I was dirt beneath her shoe.
“You think you can hide in here and take your time?” she sneered. “The housekeeper said every corner must shine before the Lycan Prince arrives.”
“I’m working,” I said quietly, not looking up.
A mistake.
Mara kicked over my bucket.
Dirty water spilled across the floor, soaking my knees.
The other omega laughed.
“Oops,” Mara said mockingly. “Looks like you missed a spot.”
My hands tightened on the mop.
I said nothing.
That only made her angrier.
She grabbed my shoulder and shoved me hard into the wet floor.
Pain shot through my palm as I hit the ground.
“Don’t act like you’re special just because you were born from cursed blood,” she hissed. “You’re still a slave.”
I forced myself to breathe.
Don’t react. Don’t react.
But inside me, something burned.
Before I could move, a cold voice came from behind us.
“Is there a problem here?”
The housekeeper.
Everyone froze.
Mara stepped back instantly, fake innocence on her face.
“No problem, ma’am. Just correcting her work.”
The housekeeper’s eyes landed on me, still on the floor, soaked and trembling.
Her lips curled.
“Pathetic,” she said flatly. “If you waste time, you get punished.”
She pointed at the hallway.
“Clean the entire west wing before sunset. And if I find a single stain, you’ll skip meals for a week.”
My stomach tightened.
“Yes, ma’am,” I whispered.
She turned away without another word.
Mara smirked as she left.
I slowly pushed myself up, hands shaking.
This was normal.
This was my life.
I continued cleaning, ignoring the sting in my knees.
But something kept echoing in my mind.
Two days.
Only two days until my eighteenth birthday.
The day I would shift for the first time.
The day my wolf would awaken fully.
And the same day the Lycan Prince would arrive.
Prince Benjamin.
I pressed my hand against my chest as I worked.
“Moon Goddess,” I whispered silently, “don’t let me break before then.”
