Jane’s pov
It was the morning of the official visit
And my eighteenth birthday.
The entire pack felt different.
Louder.
Faster.
More dangerous in a way I couldn't explain.
For two days, something unusual had happened.
No one had bullied me.
No insults.
No pushing.
No whispered cruelty in the hallways.
At first, I thought it was a miracle.
Then I realized the truth.
Everyone was too busy preparing for the Lycan Prince's arrival.
And for once in my life..
I was grateful to a stranger I had never met.
Because today was my birthday.
My eighteenth birthday.
Most wolves dreamed about this day for years. It was supposed to be special. The day you found your mate. The day your life changed.
I didn't know if any of that would happen for me.
But for the first time in a long time, I had been looking forward to something.
With the entire pack focused on the Prince's visit, no one would pay attention to me.
No one would remember my birthday.
And that was exactly what I wanted.
After finishing my duties, I planned to spend the evening alone.
Peacefully.
Without insults.
Without humiliation.
Without fear.
Just one quiet birthday.
Maybe that wasn't much to ask for.
Maybe it was.
“JANE!”
The sharp voice cut through my thoughts like a blade.
I flinched immediately and turned.
The chief housekeeper, Lisa, stood at the end of the hallway with her arms crossed.
“Good morning, ma'am Lisa,” I said quickly.
She frowned. “Good morning to your lazy self too. What are your duties today?”
I lowered my gaze. “I am assigned to assist with hall decorations, and afterward I must stay away so I don't... cause trouble or appear unfit before the Prince.”
“Exactly,” she snapped. “But before that, you're going to the young Alpha's room. He needs assistance getting ready immediately.”
My heart dropped.
The small spark of happiness I had been holding onto vanished instantly.
The hallway suddenly felt colder.
Logan.
Of all people.
So much for a peaceful birthday.
“So much for being left alone,” I thought bitterly.
“Logan's room?” I asked softly.
“Yes. Move.”
She didn’t wait for my reaction before walking away.
I stood frozen for a moment.
My eighteenth birthday.
The one day I had secretly hoped would pass quietly.
Two peaceful days.
That was all I had been given.
Two days without him.
And now it was over.
Logan.
The future Alpha.
The person I feared more than anything in this pack.
I took a slow breath.
Maybe he wouldn’t be there.
Maybe I would be lucky just this once.
I kept telling myself that as I walked.
But my instincts didn’t believe it.
When I reached his door, my hands were shaking slightly.
I knocked.
An omega opened it and gestured me inside.
“He’s not here yet. Just prepare his things quickly,” she whispered.
Relief flooded through me.
For a moment… I could breathe.
I worked quickly—organizing clothes, polishing shoes, preparing accessories.
Everything had to be perfect for the Prince’s visit.
Minutes passed.
Too quiet.
Too calm.
And that made me nervous.
Then—
The atmosphere shifted.
The door opened.
And Logan stepped in.
My entire body went still.
His eyes landed on me immediately.
Sharp.
Amused.
Like he had been expecting this moment.
“Everyone out,” he said calmly.
No one hesitated.
The room emptied instantly.
Now it was just the two of us.
My heartbeat quickened painfully.
He tilted his head slightly.
A slow smile formed on his lips.
“Hello, lamb,” he said softly.
My stomach twisted.
That nickname.
I hated it.
He took a step closer.
“Do you remember what I told you about your eighteenth birthday?”
My blood turned cold.
Today.
It was today.
And suddenly I understood—
This wasn’t just another day in the pack.
It was the day he had been waiting for.
My knees weakened instantly.
The tray I had been holding slipped from my hands and clattered onto the floor.
“No…” I whispered.
Logan’s smile widened slightly as he watched my reaction.
“So you do remember,” he said.
My throat tightened painfully.
I took a step back.
Then another.
“I… I have work to do in the hall,” I said quickly, forcing my voice to stay steady.
But he moved with me.
Always closing the space between us.
“You’ve always been good at running,” he said quietly. “But today, there’s nowhere left to go.”
My heart pounded violently.
This couldn’t be happening.
Not today.
Not like this.
The day I was supposed to meet my mate.
The day my life was supposed to change.
Instead, I was trapped in a room with the one person I feared most.
“I won’t do this,” I said, voice shaking.
His eyes darkened slightly.
“You don’t have a choice.”
Something inside me broke.
I turned suddenly and rushed toward the door.
Freedom was close.
So close.
But before I could reach it—
A strong grip caught my wrist and pulled me back.
"HELP!", I screamed
My voice echoed through the room.
I fought harder.
Desperation gave me strength.
"Please! Somebody help me!"
"Nobody is coming, Jane," he growled.
"You're wrong!" I screamed.
My voice cracked from fear.
I kicked wildly and managed to strike his leg.
The brief distraction loosened his grip just enough for me to stumble forward.
But before I could get away, he grabbed me again.
This time he dragged me toward the bathroom.
Panic consumed me completely.
"HELP ME!" I screamed one final time.
The sound echoed through the room and down the hallway.
Logan dragged me through the bathroom doorway and shut it behind us.
“Stop fighting,” he said calmly. “It’ll make things easier.”
Tears filled my eyes.
“I said I won’t—”
The door suddenly slammed open.
The sound echoed through the room like thunder.
Both of us froze.
A powerful wave of pressure filled the space.
Alpha aura.
Strong.
Dominating.
Commanding.
Logan’s expression changed instantly.
His grip loosened slightly as he turned toward the entrance.
“Who the hell is that?” he growled.
I couldn’t move.
I couldn’t breathe properly.
Because standing at the doorway…
Was someone who didn’t belong here.
And everything in my life was about to change.
