Eva
I heard everything that Alpha Stone said but when he called our names I could no longer hear anything but the ringing in my own ears. I could see the members howling and clapping but heard nothing. As we fell in to place to walk up the stage I noticed Blaze, Titus and Nora smiling ear to ear and reaching out for their father and him hugging them tightly. Then I turned and noticed Simon, he looked so somber. But something was different. He was muscular and his scent had changed. He smelt like the salty ocean and driftwood and it made my cheeks warm.
I blushed and turned away from him. I wasn’t sure where that came from but I needed to focus on shifting and finding my mate. That was all that mattered.
As quickly as everyone went silent suddenly the cheering and howling came roaring back to me and Alpha Stone raised his hands again. This time the other Alphas and Lunas stood as he spoke.
“Today you all take your place amongst us as the leaders you were born to be. All werewolves may get their wolf at 18 but you all are special. You come from a line of Alphas and Lunas who have trained you to be your best and continue our legacy. When the horn blows you must look inside yourselves and speak to your wolf. Once they show themselves to you and you shift you will officially take your places amongst the packs.”
We all stood there ready and waiting for the horn, I looked up to my parents and sister who were just as excited as I was. Then the horn blew. I closed my eyes and called for my wolf. Everything went black and I felt a tingly sensation course through my body. Then I saw a light. There before me stood a golden wolf. Her eyes a dark amber and her coat as bright as the sun.
“Hello Eva. I am Aelia. I have been waiting a long time to meet you.” I bowed my head to her extending my hand. She licked me and began to dance around. “ You will have many gifts Eva and we will go on many adventures. Now let’s shift and show the others what we are made of” she winked at me and the next thing I new I was warm and standing on all fours looking around the arena.
My eyes fell on Blaze who was deep brown in color with green eyes. To the left of him Titus stood tall and mighty with fur as black as midnight and eyes that beamed yellow, over by her father Nora stood and she was white as snow and violet eyes. I looked around for Simon and all at once everyone gasped. Simon stood towards the back of the stage still in human form. There were whispers amongst the pack members and confusion in the air. Why hadn’t he shifted? Why was he just standing there? Did he have a wolf? What was going on?
Simon
The horn blew and I closed my eyes. I could feel a stirring inside of me but nothing happened. I opened my eyes and saw the others shifting so I shut my eyes to try again. This has to work, my pack depended on it. I tried calling for my wolf and squeezed my eyes tighter and yet nothing changed. When I opened my eyes again I saw four wolves and every pack member staring at me. I didn’t know what to say or where to turn. Then I could feel Tyler getting closer to me.
“I think we should get out of here” Tyler linked.
Before I could do anything Alpha Stone was back at the microphone telling everyone to calm down. “It would seem that Simon of River Pack hasn’t earned his wolf yet, no surprise considering where he is from”
Everyone laughed and quickly started pointing and mocking everyone in our pack. I moved away from the stage and motioned for our pack to exit the arena. While we made our way for the gate Alpha Stone hollered for us to stop.
“ River Pack! It would seem your time has come to an end. Alpha Leon is to sick to lead and may be dead by now and your next heir to be Alpha can’t even shift. It’s time to bring this madness to and end.”
There was no way I was being brought down by this piece of trash before I even had a chance to try.
“Run for the gate and don’t look back, if we get separated meet me in the Forest.” I linked to Tyler. Just like that we bolted. Alpha Stones guards tried catching us and managed to get a few of our pack members. I wasn’t sure if Tyler made it through but I was heading for the Forest and following the a river home before it was to late.
I knew I would need to leave before dawn but as the full moon hung in the sky I waited for Tyler and any other members who made it through.
I looked up at the moon and whispered “Moon Goddess I don’t understand. We have already lost so much why would you take my wolf from me too. I thought I felt him but he has left me.”
I closed my eyes and tried one more time to connect with my wolf. And this time by the rivers edge I started to notice something, a strange tingling and then a light. I looked in to the light and there stood a silver wolf with eyes that looked through my soul. He came forward to me and spoke
“My name is Rajat, it’s nice to finally meet you Simon.”
I was trembling. This wolf seemed almost holy like one of the gods. How could this be my wolf? I wasn’t worthy and came from the weakest pack.
“I know you are wondering how it came to be that I am your wolf. There is much you will learn over time and there is much we will do together. But for now we need to get you home, Tyler will find his way.”
Once we shifted I looked at my reflection in the waters edge. I was very large, much larger then Blaze or Titus and the silver of my fur shown as bright as the moon. I was still in shock but Rajat took over and headed us for home. There was so much to be done.
Before I entered our territory I shifted back. Until I learned more about Rajat I didn’t want the others to see me. I crossed in to River Pack lands and headed to the pack house.
It felt so good to be back on our soil. The closer I got to the pack house the heavier my chest felt. I knew something was wrong and I knew it was my father. I walked through the front door and headed straight to his room. Our doctor James was standing over him listening to his heart beat. He smelt me coming and had already pulled up a chair for me sit in next to my father.
“It won’t be long now” Doc James said to me as he tucked the blankets tighter around his Alphas side.
I was fifteen when my mother died and now at 18 I would be an orphan. Not just any orphan but an Alpha orphan. My father looked up at me and he could see the worry in my eyes.
“Son, this is not the life your mother and I wanted for you. You must be strong and remember the legacy you must continue. I may not be here to guide you but your wolf can. Trust him and trust yourself.”
He held my hand tightly as he drew his last breath. I felt his hand go limp in mine and that was when I knew everything was about to change.
