The Assemblage.
There are words that hold us down and limit what we can become. Our understanding of the universe undermines our need for growth as our minds are focused on the wrong things. The possibilities that exist within the realm of possibilities are so much more than we can ever imagine. Not only are we tied down by the distractions that we create ourselves, our minds have become weak, our thoughts dependent on the pleasure we intend to invent. Even those we have created hold us down to a point that we lose ourselves in the wrong things. Humans are never perfect but our imperfections despite buried deep within us, creates the urgent need to survive and exist.
As the times pass, we develop into beings that are made for so much. Only because we focus on the important things that allows us to be in existence. Perhaps if we open our eyes to see beyond the veil that shrouds our understanding, we can be what we must be. Every piece of life is dependent on the ideals that controls it. Precept upon precept, line upon line, our influence on our lives have led us to a point in time that we lose sight of the value that we have been giving in the construct of things to be. But as few of us remain steadfast to behold the revelation that exists beyond our comprehension, we are in fact led to a wilder stream of light.
These would be the words of my mouth as I spoke on the latter hill, addressing the conglomerate on the glassy planet, PRYGUS 3GC. The roar and cheers were not new to me, a sign of the love they had for me. What words would do to a man, an inexplicable influence that he had on his people. My eyes stream across the crowd that surrounded me even to my own council. The Kliens, who alongside myself achieved such a great feat.
As I walked away from the euphoric crowd so did my friends also. I had somehow managed to align all ideals and minds towards achieving one goal. It was like a dream, a dream that took a century to achieve.
“Primi!” A voice beckoned on me as I walked alongside the Kliens who whispered words to me at every interval. I turned to look.
“The Oracle, she’s here” The boy who had called my name said again, catching his breath as he had had a long run.
“Then we must prepare…” Selena said quickly, with exasperation.
“What words does the duchess of doom have this time?” Another said with a grunt that showed his greatest displeasure. Atrichus, not a man who loved the words of a mouthpiece, nor a religious man at most.
“Selena, prepare the Cave… I shall meet with you there” I said, my face beaming with a smile that expressed my need for comfort.
“You are tired…” Mtumfa, the dark-skinned girl with her many rings that hung her glorious neck and arms said, holding on to my hand.
“You do not get to speak on such grandiose occasions like this one without being…”
“The sun reflects many lights, heat as well” Ash said. He was Mtumfa’s sidekick, the only skilled fighters I could trust amongst all men.
“I must hurry, I will speak with you all later” I said waving them to leave me be. I walked into my chamber that stood as the top most section of the Upper clot, with a view that spanned over the silicate terrain. Four colonies separated for many years, now under my command but yet to be the thing that troubled me most. Ecclesia, the church would do all to break the trust of the people. They created discord amongst the men and so did the men to their wives and children. Having lived on Prygus for many years that only people in times would dream of, I had watched the essence of our existence shift tide as we lived. Perhaps this was what the Oracle had come to tell me. More of words within the Church. If indeed men wasn’t to live forever, God would have destroyed every last one of them. To be fair, he somewhat did. Our ancestors lived on the face of the planet Earth for thousands of years until the Anuaric era, the Times of Blight and even past the Long Drought. Every book and record along the course of history spoke of these eras and eras before them, one even named after me. The Adrien Era. A time that I paid so much attention to and so did the Church but perhaps a story that comes later as you read on, Enitan.
God punished them but they persisted unlike the days of the Tower of Babel when man lost his singular voice. I picked up a new robe, one I had created from within the scope of my mind. Afterall man had achieved what was thought to be impossible. We had merged with nature breaking limits to what we could do. Nothing could stop us. We, unlike our ancestors had reached a point where nothing was impossible. To things that were merely abstract, we could see and feel and to things that were not, we controlled. If Ecclesia so much cared that man was immortal perhaps, they should strip him of every other thing he has achieved against all odds but the hypocrisy dealt well amongst them, slicing every word from scripture and making do with narratives that suited more their contingencies.
“Speak…” I said now as I walked into the Cave as the Upper Six (those who were also called the Kliens) sat on the high chairs above me. The Oracle, her hair wavering slowly in the dry air bowed.
“What words to describe your being, Primi. Ruler of the world that exist within this realm and many to come”
Words were flattering but amongst the worlds that existed, Prygus was merely one, my seat of power. The orchestration of my might as I influenced worlds without.
“Ecclesia persists, I presume?” I said, hindering her further to praise me more.
“The Church must remain. It is the symbol of our existence”
“Aren’t we tied down with a confusion to what actually exist or not? To what is true or what is false...”
“…Are these not words, merely subjective. Feelings same? Atrichus said with slight disgust on his face. Nothing disgusted him more than the name of a deity that existed as supreme lord over all things. More so, that as humans, we fail to live life as it deems fit that even at access of sovereignty, man would rather hold back on himself.
“Let her speak…” I waved. My words of persistence weren’t as a means to rebel against them but as a way to know if they still upheld the idea of fighting the supremacy of man. Donna, the Oracle nodded, a gesture that did nothing to her smooth dark hair that wavered on their own accord.
“Esme sends words. Live words”
“She wishes to speak?” The woman called Selena spoke. Her words showing her amazement. Esme Papapov would decline always to speak with me, her reason to now was astonishing.
Donna stretched her arms out releasing a cluster of matter that scattered across but forming together to create meaning. In a matter of seconds, a woman, tall as the others stood in front of them, except that she was merely a projection of herself.
“Esme…” I said calmly, even though the smug on her face annoyed me deeply
“Adrius…” She said but a smile would appear as soon as she spoke, the reactions from the others delighted her.
“The Church—”
“The Church remains unhinged by your words. We heard about your latest feat to create a larger colony on your home planet-” She retorted quickly, giving me no chance to speak of my mind.
“One that failed to exist even in times of our ancestors-” Selena replied grudgingly.
“Society must mend itself. Our need for one voice is dependent on what message we intend on passing across” Esme said quickly in a manner of confidence that baffled them all except me, I stared down at her in utmost amazement. There were things to learn of the church, so many things and being stuck under their awful eyes of criticism was not a great feeling especially at such a time when I had somewhat achieved what they deemed impossible.
“What is your message?” I asked.
“What you have always known. You blaspheme against God by being this way. You must come to the light”
“Light?” Atrichus chuckled and laughed mockingly.
But Esme waited not any longer as her fragmented body disperse into matter.
“What is her plan Oracle?” I asked.
“That I do not know.”
“Then we must find out” I spoke again standing to my feet.
“I must lay my head” Weary words from my mouth again but as I looked at Selena, my face drowned in dissatisfaction. I was already from my long day.
“What is it now?” I asked.
“The Masters will like to meet with you. You proposed a meeting, remember?” She said soothingly, in a bid to calm my already stressed mind. Esme’s words had dealt more to make my soul bitter. I wished for peace but the conflict that presumed it was inevitable, at least to what I could fathom. My eyes streamed across the fairly lit hall, down to the impression on Atrichus’s face. Words he had spoken earlier had a deeper meaning in my ears and even if Atrichus had not realized it, I did. Perhaps he was right that indeed we were tied down to battle thoughts on what existed and did not, to what was true and false but wasn’t this is purpose of life itself? Were we becoming bored of our own existence, that meaning was difficult to appreciate?
My mind pondered as it would always, it had been a habit I had cultivated earlier in my life as events streamed across time long before the advent of colonies, in fact a time when we lived as one on the surface of Giona. A time filled with struggles of life, an insufferable moment in time, despite minute, holding a toll in my conscious state of mind. Who would have thought that I would find myself in such a position that will ultimately define the essence of humanity? As much as I would love to reminisce on these things, more pressing issues seemed to be appearing.
“Ha! I suppose I did. If only they would wait” I smiled but Selena wasn’t buying it.
“They have travelled miles across the glass planet to meet with you, to show appreciation, a little gesture of love would suffice, Adrius”
“Not to talk of the politics that can ensure if you fall short. It has never been my greatest strength to worry about prejudice. Waste of emotions, if you ask me” Atrichus said rising to his feet and walking away uninterested in anything they would speak or do. I envied him deeply, he had a way of speaking wisdom but in the most unfashionable way possible. With such finesse that one would wonder if he did it out of respite or show.
Atrichus was right. Now that I had become Primi, treading lightly would be a keynote to my way of governance. It wouldn’t be in our favor if the Masters of the colonies were to be influenced by the Church. The back of the people turned against me would lead to revolution and the Masters played a huge role in making my intent a reality.
“Lead the way…” I spoke again as the Kliens made their way out, huge doors thudding shut behind us. “And the Uprising?” I asked in whispers as Selena and I walked alone towards my chamber. Her eyes spoke enough.
“Have Ash and Mtumfa settle scores. If Sorkjaer finds it difficult to control the Army then what essence is he?”
“I suggest that you have your mind in one place at a time, Adrius. I will see to these things” She replied me with a peck on my cheek and walked away. I walked into the chamber and even as all heads bowed, I bowed in return.
“Primi…” Exclave said. A man with a reputation that superseded the others. A warrior who battled the legion of ice Ichthys, the terror that dwell across the glass planet one time. They were creatures with no understanding of appearance. Somewhat wolves, somewhat bears, somewhat cat, somewhat reptile. Standing at seven feet, each attribute aligned with different features on its body. With Exclave, we found ways to domesticate them for use. The scars on his face were reminder of those dark days and he flaunted them carelessly.
“Brave…” I grabbed him by the arm and hugged him just as I did the others. Three of them, Masters for things known of their great feats in the course of history. Exclave, the Brave, Steiner, the Crafty and Klose, the Undammed.
“We are honored…” Steiner said with his voice that spilled words as though he were not bothered by anything.
“The honor is mine, Masters…” I said as the doors opened and wine was served as well as fruits.
“Gestures of my appreciation” I smiled.
“We bring words of the Timals, we sense them closing on us every day” Steiner said again. He was a man with words at his feet, he spoke them effortlessly.
“So I heard but we are to blame… Our motherships left behind clues as we scanned the planet. I only wonder why it must be difficult to coexist”
“We are no threat”
“Not as it seems to them. As we have aligned forces, perhaps we meet force with force” Exclave said, his words were not disappointing after all he was a man filled with some much rage.
“No, it only complicates matters even further and we know it. They have yet to attack us in anyway” Klose said calmly, unlike Atrichus he spoke very carefully.
“Must we wait till they do?” Exclave scoffed.
“The Master has a point” I said. I wasn’t a man who would foil at the face of a fight, I also wasn’t a man who would result to it either. So far, words only reached me of the Timals approaching from the south, perhaps for peace. I wasn’t so sure anyway. Words from other colonized planets were in fact discouraging to hear also.
“Masters, we shall wait a little while to see what they offer and then we shall act. For now, we celebrate our newly found life” I said and smiled, raising my glass up.
“Primi, why have you invited us this time?” Steiner said. His eyes twitched every second for some reason.
“Masters, words about the church”
The men looked at one another with amazement, terrified of what words to come next. Even Exclave would cave at the words that spilled out the mouth of the Primi.
I knew in his heart of their reaction. Who wouldn’t fear at last, of the might of Ecclesia? They murmured words to one another as they sat before me.
“Primi, perhaps—”
“I do not wish to pit you against the Church, you have nothing to worry about, Masters. However, I spoke with Esme Papapov a while ago” Now my words brought more fright.
“Esme? She was here?” Klose asked with eyes wide open.
“Merely a projection. I doubt she takes us serious to step foot on Prygus. Perhaps more important matters to deal with on Giona than trivial matters that we have here”
“Primi, amongst all planet colonized by the Intermission, we are the only ones left who accepts the mandate of the Church” Steiner said.
“I am aware…”
“The mandate of the Church is ridiculous! To expect that we let go of everything man has become in a bid to please a God we have never seen” Exclave spat.
“Blasphemy!”
“Not blasphemous enough to rid reason. The hypocrisy of the Church is quite fascinating, to attempt to revolt against the order of things as they have been”
“Perhaps to prove their sanctity…”
“A means to conceal the intent of their hearts”
“Speak Steiner” I said.
“Words from Giona talks about the clone project being brought back to life” He spoke again.
