Chapter 22:
The pair searched the remainder of the first floor, spending an inordinate amount of time in the kitchen. Geovanni was hungry, and they took the time to boil a few eggs before seeking out the servant quarters. Thaddeus had no grounds to deprive the man his food. They had no indication there was anything amiss other than the lack of people about. He remained fairly certain a logical answer would eventually be discovered.
They found the servant quarters empty. Both what they assumed were the men’s and the women’s quarters looked well used but currently deserted. They also found a room that looked like a barracks. It was unoccupied as well. With each discovery, the mystery deepened, but there was no indication of foul play.
