Chapter 25:
“Are you all right?” Dani’s voice called from behind him as he ran up from the stables.
Thaddeus pushed himself over the stone cobbles of the courtyard, backing away from the young man. “Where have you been? We searched everywhere for you.”
The lad pulled himself up short, his hands held outstretched at waist level. “Sir, I am sorry. I did not like the feeling of the servant quarters. Something is wrong with that house and the people inside. Last night, I left my bed and moved to the stables. I felt safer among the animals than I did the strange people of the house.”
Thaddeus relaxed some. The boy’s explanation held some sense. Even if… “Why didn’t you call to us when we searched for you? We spent the day looking for your body.”
