His hand on his rapier, Thaddeus asked, “Is he dead?” He wasn’t sure what he would do if the younger man died in the attack. It was his fault, after all. Geovanni shouldn’t have pressed the attack after being disarmed. He had lost. The woman was a much better fighter.
“I didn’t hit him that hard.” She kicked the scribe’s hand with her foot. “He still breathes. He will wake with a headache. We don’t have time for his insanity.”
She picked an interesting choice of words. Leave it to an insane person to think the sane… It all became too confusing. “What are your plans once you find the body you think belongs to the vampire?”
