Chapter One
The snooze of the alarm clock on the bedside drawer kept ringing every three minutes, trying to get him out of bed. The sensation felt like dozen of birds perching continuously on his head every three minutes. He tossed around the bed lazily not wanting to depart from its coziness. The bugging alarm clock kept buzzing irritatingly in his ear, he had to silence it with force out of anger. The events of the previous day came replaying in his head. His company had lost one of its biggest business clients to its ultimate adversary, the Royal Kish Group of Companies (RKGC). He was emotionally drained and mentally disoriented that he nearly went berserk. Non other than Lesley Kish, the CEO of RKGC and his greatest rival could make him go untamed. Lesley was spiteful and always had a way of taking what rightfully belonged to him through cunning or dishonest means. His friend and business associate Barry tried to calm him down after work hours when they stopped by at their usual bar at night to cool off and in the process, they both got drunk. How he had ended up in his room was still unprocessed to him. The non stop soft knocks coming from the door brought him back to his senses. "Who is it?" he yelled. He was suddenly angry at whoever it was that kept knocking even when the door was still not opened. "Madam requests your presence at the breakfast table Sir" the voice called out. It's probably one of the servants. "I'll be there shortly" He replied in the same tone getting out of his king sized bed. He was still in the same pants and shirt from the previous day only that his suit was lying on the couch. He went straight to the bathroom and in less than fifteen minutes, he was dressed in his usual business outfit. A plain trouser and shirt with suit. He usually left the two top buttons of his shirt unbuttoned, exposing little of his broad chest. He knew without anyone telling him that he was good looking and always appeared hot especially in the sight of his female employees who never failed to feed their eyes on him and drool. He wasn't a 'women loving type' but he tries to be friendly and have little flings just for the sake of it. He was every woman's dream and many have a crush on him or are secretly infatuated by him. He was intelligent, good looking, one of the youngest and probably the most wealthiest business tycoon in the country. What's more? He was single. At twenty five, He had already made a name for himself and is a public figure. He had taken over his late father's company at the age of twenty and ever since then, the family business has blossomed more than it had and it has made a figurative name locally and internationally. When it came to fame, wealth or power, the 'Orman Empire' was always first on the list and that applied to any member of the Orman family. All of these however never got to his head or made him proud or behaved like most rich people in the society do. He is always focused and strategic when it came to business and never mixed business with pleasure and that also kepte the family name to its standard. He treats everyone humanly equal and avoids being bias in his dealings with others. His biggest challenge mostly came from RKGC or their CEO. Lesley had been his long time rival since college days, always trying to compete with him in every area. Lesley hated his guts and boldness and would never accept the fact that he was the best. Lesley was the only son of the royal lord Kish and a nephew to King Lugard so he had royalty blood in him. Just as he was rushing down the stairs to have breakfast with his family, one of servants collected collected his brief case to put it in the car. He met his mom and youngest sibling Charlotte at the breakfast table. "Morning Mother" he said and pecked his mother's cheek. "Sweetheart" he called out to his little sister Charlotte, kissing her forehead. "Do you realise its past eight already?" his mum stated. She had began with her nagging attitude. "I know mom I'm sorry I just had a terrible hangover" he muttered, taking a sit and a quick sip of his coffee. "You know what alcohol does to you yet you allowed yourself get drunk last night. You had to give Barry the trouble of dragging you all the way here. Do you know what this could bring to the family name if it gets heard of out there-" "Really? I don't remember anything about it. You know mom that I'm not the drinking type. There could only be a reason to it" he replied, taking a bite of the sandwich. He adored his mother but her obsession about the family reputation was way out of his league. Since he was a little boy, he and his older sister Samantha had been denied the joy of normal childhood all in the name of family reputation. "Oh really? What happened?" his mother asked, now with full concern. "We lost AB clients to RKGC" he muttered silently, trying not to get engulfed by the thought of it. "Oh my goodness. They have been our loyal customers for years. How did this happen?" "That'll be a discussion for another day. I have to go now I'm running late" he said, wiping my lips with the servette and getting up. "Uh but you have barely even touched your breakfast" his Mom reminded. "I'm full mom" "Big bro, do you mind if I ride with you today so you can drop me off at school?" his sister requested. "Sorry baby I'm afraid I'm running late already. One of the drivers will drop you off. I promise we'll spend the weekend together" he apologized and kissed her forehead. She was just thirteen and in middle school. He kissed his mother on the cheek before leaving, not without letting out a "Have a good day Mother". "Dave, you're gonna get hungry later, you haven't eaten anything" he heard her faint voice call out but he was already out of the door. * * * * * His PA was waiting at the entrance of the Orman Empire and as soon as he got out of the SUV, she greeted and quickly collected his brief case. They began to walk into the building and straight to the elevator. He kept responding to the numerous greetings that kept coming from each angle from all the workers and employees. Although he was younger than a lot of them, they all respected him just as respects them. "What's the update?" he asked his PA as soon as they were inside the elevator. He was already in a serious work mood. "You already have three proposals you need to review on your desk-" "Any news from our investors in Thailand?" he interrupted. "Non Sir but our clients from 'Prestige' want to reschedule their appointment" As soon as they were out of the elevator, they stepped into the sixth floor which contained the office of the CEO and other VIP offices of the company. One can tell from the nature of the building, furniture and fittings that the Orman Empire is the most expensive and cannot be compared to any. The company deals in the design and construction of mainly classy and qualitative edifices, manufacture of luxurious furniture and fittings or manufacturing of electronic gadgets. Any structure constructed or designed by the Orman Empire always tends to stand out among all. His secretary made sure everything was set and ready before his arrival. While his secretary sees to the affairs of his office alone, his PA sees to the affairs of other areas. Though some people keep one mostly, he preferred to have both because he was a perfectionist. The office of the CEO which was his office was luxuriously furnished and well decorated. Everything in it spoke of wealth. He immediately settled in and began to view the proposals piled up on his desk which had an inscription on a placard: "DAVE ORMAN, CEO ORMAN EMPIRE". He suddenly picked interest in a particularly rare kind of business proposal that had to do with a construction on an Island. It came from the Jenkins Enterprise. Though it appeared to be the most complex one, there was something unusual and challenging about it that drew his interest because the Ormans and the Jenkins never got along so well. He studied it briefly before handing it over to his PA. "Review this proposal first and give me some feedback. I'll go through the rest later. Oh and tell my secretary to fix an appointment for me with the new employees" "But Sir, don't you think we should wait till the-" "Just do as I say Christen" he spoke calmly and she replied with "Yes Sir" before walking out, shaking her waist in the process. He had always known that she's one cunning woman who would do anything to be more than just his PA when given the chance and that is the reason why he never got too informal with her. He was also never interested in any of her showy or flashy attitudes of trying to get his attention. He only liked her attitude to work because she was good at what she does. People say he was much like his father in relating with different kinds of people. He however still haven't gotten over the demise of his father even though its been five years. The death of his father still haunted him. His father was truly a just and honest man loved by everyone in the society and amongst his siblings, he was the closest to his father and he got to learn so many things from him. Everyone, especially his elder sister Samantha always thought that their father loved him more than all his kids. He is and will always remain the only son of his father.
