“That is impossible.” He shouted losing control as his eyes turned silver. “I won that round fair and square!!”
“The round was about protecting your people by forfeiting your own need but instead you ignored the helpless little girl who was attacked by a rogue wolf and decided to get the flag instead. You left a member of your pack for dead.”
“I wasn't told, if I had known then I would have saved her first.”
“That was the whole point, Cole. You were
supposed to follow your instincts as an Alpha.”
“Octavia also had no idea about the trap but unlike you, she chose to forfeit her victory if it meant saving a member of her pack. That shows true leadership, and for this reason Octavia has won.”
The crowd cheered as Cole shouted. Their father signalled for two guards to hold onto Cole as he struggled in their arms.
“Mark my words Octavia. I'm going to make you pay for this! I will make you pay!!” He shouted as he was being dragged out of the arena.
The Alpha and Luna came down as her father the Alpha congratulated her. Her mother just glared at her with hatred.
“I'm very proud of you.” Silas whispered.
“The next Alpha of Silver moon pack is my daughter, Alpha Octavia.”
The crowd cheered though obviously not completely in support with the king but happy to have a winner.
Octavia who was still in shock, smiled. She had no idea what she was supposed to do after this.
Suddenly, fear began to set in.
She moved her father's hand from hers, making him frown in confusion.
“Octavia, what's wrong?” Silas looked at her with concern.
I....I need to go. She turned and ran, turning into her wolf. She ran fast and hard until she couldn't feel her legs anymore.
Octavia collapsed on the riverbank, breathing hard. All she could think about was the pressure of everything that's going on.
She changed quickly into her human form as she squatted water on her face. She knew she had to calm down but how could she when everything she knew had changed in the span of two days.
Her mother now despise her while her brother wouldn't hesitate to end her if given the chance.
“Octavia.”
She heard a voice behind her and she didn't have to turn around to know it was her father.
“Dad? Why are you here?” She asked quietly.
“I followed you?”
His voice was calm and steady, like he knew what was going through her mind. And when he stared at her, it seemed he could see through her, like he knew how fast her heart was beating.
“What wrong, little queen.” He sat beside her.
“I'm scared Dad. I feel like mom and Cole hates me. Like she hates the fact that I'm gonna be Alpha, and the people. They seem to dislike the idea also.”
Silas chuckled, looking amused.
“What?” Octavia frowned confused.
“Nothing, I'm just happy I made the right choice. You deserve to be Alpha, little queen. The title has always been yours, and with time, your mom, Cole and the people would all come to see exactly what I've seen in you since you were a child.”
Her father's words warmed her heart, and Octavia could not help but smile. She felt some of the fear and doubt dissipate slowly.
“Thanks Dad.” She leaned closer to him, hugging him tightly. “Thank you for believing in me.”
“Always, little queen.”
“Now if you're done whining can we go home?” Silas teased making Octavia roll her eyes.
Did you really have to ruin the moment. She chuckled, letting go off her father. They both stood up and shifted into their wolves.
“Race you to the pack,” Octavia shouted through the link, taking off into the woods.
“Hey, that's cheating.” Her father laughed as he chased behind her.
They race until they entered pack grounds, and Infront of the pack house. Two elders stood, hands behind their backs.
Sending the atmosphere, her father talked to her through the link.
“Go to your bedroom, Octavia. I will see you later.”
“Is something wrong?” She looks from the elders to her father.
“Everything is okay, little queen. Why don't we go hunting tomorrow?”
“Dad, I know how to hunt.”
“Then I'll teach you how to hunt properly, but now I need to find out what they want, Okay?”
“Okay.”
She gave the elders one more look before she jogged towards her bedroom. She knew everything wasn't fine but what could she do about it.
The last thing she heard was her father shifting into human before she was out of earshot.
“What is it?” Silas growled as a servant offered him clothes.
“Um....Alpha, we are here to address the issue on ground.”
“Which is?”
“Alpha, I'm sure you are very aware of this but you named Octavia the next Alpha.” The oldest among them spoke.
“I am very aware of that.” Silas strolled towards his office, now fully dressed. The elders hot on his heels.
Alpha, Octavia is female. The elders emphasized.
“I am also aware of that. She is my daughter after all.”
“Alpha Silas, she cannot be the next Alpha.” Another elder spat. “The people would never accept her.”
“Why don't you leave that up to me then.”
“We have never had a female Alpha in the history of the Silver moon pack and we won't allow you be the one to bring misfortune to this pack, Alpha.”
“Let me remind you, elders of the council.” Silas voice boomed. “There is a line between stating your opinion and insulting the Alpha and right now, you're straying too close to crossing it.”
“I'm sure you know I can have your heads for that.”
The elders paled at Silas threat.
“Umm...Alpha, we are really sorry if our words sounded insulting. We were only trying to voice our opinion, hoping you would see reason.”
“Well your opinion has been voiced. You can leave.”
The elders inclined their head in submission before hurriedly filing out of his office.
