Alpha's Decision.
“Focus Cole.” Octavia scolds her twin brother as she swings her first at his head. Octavia and Cole were both children to the Alpha of Silver moon pack. He manages to dodge bringing his hand up to block the blow. Octavia used the opportunity to kick him on his knee successfully knocking him down. “Yeah! Another win for Octavia.” Ralph fist bumped the air. Ralph was the son of the beta of the Silver moon pack. Which automatically makes him the next beta in line since werewolves deal on hierarchy. “Shut up Ralph.” Cole said harshly as he stood up dusting his pants. Octavia rolled her eyes breathing heavily. She walked to the table, took her bottle of water and emptied the whole thing into her mouth. “Really,” She wiped the spill from her lips. “Cole, this is the third time I'm knocking you down. You have to learn to focus.” “I am focused, Octavia.” He frowned. “I just go easy on you because you're a girl.” Octavia snorted. “Bullshit,” Ralph laughed. “you don't go easy on her, Cole. She's just better than you are.” “And how can you know when you're not a part of the fight?” Cole raised a brow. “Uhh, because I watched the whole thing dummy.” Ralph gave him a 'duh' kind of look. “You know nothing.” Cole growled, walking to his table. He grabbed his bottle and gulped the whole thing down. “At least I know that Octavia is better than you. She should probably be made Alpha instead.” His words seemed to tick off something in Cole as he turned sharply towards Ralph. “Take that back!” He growled but Ralph was defiant. He crossed his hands over his chest and tilted his chin up. Cole began to advance towards Ralph in full strides when Octavia stood between them. “Would you relax? He's just joking, Cole.” “He challenged me. His future Alpha.” “No he didn't.” Octavia groaned turning to Ralph. “Did you?.” Ralph stared at her before sighing. “I'm sorry.” He apologized to Cole. Octavia and Cole were both Alpha's while Ralph was a beta which automatically means he has to obey and submit to them but he was also their childhood friend which means he loved to push their buttons. “See? He apologized. Now knock it off,” Octavia demanded. Cole only let out a low growl and turned to leave the room. Before he could step out, the door opened and Ralph's father, Enzo, walked in. His gaze moved between the three of them, instantly sensing the tension hanging in the air. “What happened?” he narrowed his eyes at his son. “Nothing.” Ralph replied not meeting his eyes. His father could be very strict and would not hesitate to punish him if he learned that Ralph had offended Cole—the future Alpha. Enzo studied them again, his eyes moving from one face to another before a low grunt escaped him. “The king has requested for you guys to meet him in his office.” “Okay.” Octavia answered as she and Cole turned to leave. Ralph stood there still looking at the floor. “The three of you.” Enzo added, staring pointedly at his son. This made both Octavia and Cole frown as they turned to each other. Their father has never asked to speak to Ralph. Though mostly because he hated Ralph's guts. So this came as a huge surprise to the both of them. Ralph's eyes widened slightly but he quickly composed himself as he nodded at his father, following Octavia and Cole out of the room. “Did you do something wrong?” Octavia whispered to Ralph. “No.” He grunted. “Then why does my father want to see you?” “I have no idea.” Ralph groaned. “Would you both be quiet. I'm sure Ralph must have probably done something to offend Dad unless he wouldn't have asked for him.” Cole said giving Ralph a pointed glare. “Woah. Such comforting words.” Ralph replied sarcastically. Cole simply rolled his eyes, and none of them said another word until they reached the Alpha’s office. Once there, Octavia knocked on the door and a voice inside ordered them to enter. So they did. “Dad.” Octavia and Cole greeted in unison. “Alpha.” Ralph also greeted. Alpha Silas nodded at them before gesturing for them to take their seats which they immediately obeyed. “Do you know why I have called you all here today?” They all shook their heads. He nodded closing his laptop. “As you all know. I have gotten to an age where my reign is about to come to an end.” He said, and they all nodded in acknowledgement. “You also know that Cole and Octavia would be turning twenty tomorrow which means I would have to step down for the new Alpha to take over.” This seemed to make Cole happy as he sat even more upright, puffing out his chest. “We understand, Dad but why are you telling us all this. We already know this, or did something go wrong.” She frowned impatiently. “My dear Octavia,” Silas chuckled, “always impatient and impulsive.” He praised. “Relax and listen child.” Octavia nodded and she relaxed again on her chair. “Now back to the conversation.” “Normally, Cole being my only son would automatically inherit the Alpha title.” He paused and Cole smiled. “However,” he continued. “I have decided to do things differently this time. Instead of automatically giving the title to Cole just because he is male. I have decided to hold a contest between Cole and Octavia.” He looked between them. “The person who is able to pass all three trials would automatically be made Alpha of the Silver moon pack.” By now, the smile on Cole's face had vanished. Octavia’s breath caught in her throat. She found it hard to believe her father wanted her to compete with Cole for the Alpha title. Ralph also gasped. All of them were in total shock by the Alpha's decision. “But Dad—” Cole tried to argue but the Alpha shot him a glare that silenced him immediately. Cole pushed his chair back so suddenly it scraped loudly against the floor. “This is ridiculous.” He growled. Without waiting for permission, he stormed out of the office. Silas sighed turning to his daughter who stared at him in disbelief. “Why?” She murmured, finally finding her voice. “Because this pack need a strong ruler and I am not going to leave my pack in the hands of someone who I'm not entirely sure is the best person to rule.” “Dad, I don't think I can do this.” Silas chuckled as he reached for his daughter's hand. “Forgive me, Octavia. I know you weren’t prepared for this, but it’s the only way to put my mind at ease—knowing my pack will be in the best hands.” “What if I lose?” “Then you lose.” He smiled at her. “It changes nothing, but if you win, then everything changes. Including history.” At his words Octavia let out a shaky breath. This was one of those times in her life that she felt truly scared of the future.
