Contest

When Octavia was born everyone expected her to be an Omega or a Beta. Since most females are born as one.
But no one had expected a silver haired Alpha female. It came as a surprise to all. Her parents told her that no twin has ever been born as both Alphas.
It was a miracle.
She was a miracle, as her father would always say.
And as the day of the contest finally came. Octavia tried to force herself to believe it. It was the only thing she had left to support her since everyone she knew had turned their back on her, except her father who couldn't pick a side and had to stay neutral.
“Are you certain you want to go through with this.” Ralph's voice snapped her out of her thoughts.
She frowned.
“What do you want?” She have had a lot of people telling her to withdraw from the competition. She sure as hell did not need another lecture.
Ralph bit his lip, shifting from one foot to the other.
“I came to apologize.” He said softly. “I shouldn't have said what I said before. You are as much my friend as Cole is, and if this is what you want to do. Then you have my full support.”
Octavia turned to him in stunned silence. She searched his eyes for a hint of deceit, but all she saw was genuine sincerity.
“Thank you.” She smiled.
He walked to her, slowly.
“Octavia you mean a lot to me, and I'm sorry if I made you feel bad about yourself. I promise it won't happen again.”
“Thank you, Ralph.” She murmured. “Honestly you are the only one who had deemed it important to apologize to me.”
He patted her shoulder and gave her a little smile.
“I wish you the best, Octavia.”
“Thank you.”

Finally, it was time for the contest and Octavia could feel her arms trembling.
“Hello, Alpha, Betas, Gammas and Omegas of Silver moon pack. Today is a very special day in the history of our pack.” The Gamma, Lucian, who was also their host, greeted them.
“As you all know. In the old days when two Alpha male children are born in the same pack. A contest is held to determine which of them would bear the Alpha title.” He announced and the crowd cheered in agreement.
“Well, today we have found ourselves in a similar situation. As we are all aware our Alpha Silas has two Alpha children born to him by our great Luna Calina but unlike the old days. One of these Alpha child is a female. Our own Alpha female, Octavia.”
The crowd erupted in applause and cheers.
Octavia was loved by her pack for her good fighting skill, brilliant strategies and her kind heart. This gave her the confidence to push through with the contest.
“Our Alpha Silas has decided that instead of letting his only son, Alpha Cole take over the pack. He would follow the ways of our ancestors and let the two Alpha's compete for the title.”
The moment the words left Lucian's mouth, the cheering died instantly. A heavy silence spread through the arena, thick enough that even the rustling leaves could be heard.
Cole smirked wickedly at her and this caused Octavia's heart to sink.
They were right.
It didn't matter how much everyone loved her. They do not believe in a female Alpha. The idea was foreign to them.
“Told you to withdraw.” Cole whispered in her ear, making Octavia glare at him, but deep down a small voice told her the same thing. If the people could not accept her then she had to withdraw.
“No.”
Octavia said to herself, strengthening her resolve. She wasn't going to withdraw. She was going to prove to her people that a female Alpha is just as good as a male.
She was going to change history.
“Now let us welcome the two Alphas. Octavia and Cole Silver moon.”
They walked into the arena and the crowd cheered, but this time it sounded restrained, unsure. Like they were holding back.
Octavia did not mind any of that. She needed to focus and that was exactly what she did.
She placed all her concentration on Cole who stared at her with a sly smirk in his eyes. This caused Octavia's to narrow her eyes at him.
She wanted to wipe that smirk off his face.
“The contest would consist of three trials that would determine which of you is worthy to lead the Silver Moon Pack as its Alpha.”
“The first trial that would be undergone today is the Trial of Return.” Lucian announced.
“For this trial, you will race through the woods to the riverbank. There, you will face a challenge you must overcome to retrieve the flag. Once you have it, you must return here within one hour. Anyone who fails to make it back within that time will be disqualified from the contest. The first to return with the flag will win this trial. Do you both understand?”
Octavia clenched her jaw as she nods.
“Good. Now let the contest begin.” The host shouted and so did the crowd. They were cheers and words of encouragement as they both took their positions. “At the sound of the drum, you would both shift into your wolves and take off into the woods.”
The host raised his hand, keeping it there for a moment before dropping it with enough force. The moment his hand came down, the drum sounded, filling Octavia with adrenaline as she immediately began to shift, shredding all of her clothes.
Once she was done. A silver wolf with blue eyes emerged in her stead. She looked around trying to steady her mind, only to see Cole's brown wolf already running into the woods at full speed.
Octavia cleared her mind, regulated her heartbeat as she raced after him. Pushing herself forward with full force.
In the woods, Octavia continued at her pace speeding up even more as she got closer to Cole. He let out a growl trying to sabotage her by blocking her path. Octavia increased her speed trying to overtake him but he kept coming in front of her, making it impossible.
She decided to take another route.
She turned and ran in the opposite direction slightly confusing Cole, giving her enough time to overtake him. Octavia got to the riverbank, and just across it. She could see two flags hanging from the pole. Her heart swelled with excitement. She dived into the water running across it with as much speed as she could.
Once she successfully crossed it. She ran towards the flag but stopped abruptly when she heard a scream.
