Chapter 4 - Hunter's

JACK

I don’t know what to answer her, and Alex doesn’t know that she lost her memories and wants to talk to her. Of course, she wanted to know everything about her and her past. So, she thought she could get it from Alex when she couldn’t get it from me. 

“Jack, what is this?” Alex asks exasperatedly.

I look at Sam, “We can get him some sleep, we have a lot to talk about,” I say. And my head is telling me that Idris might have misread something from Sam calling me dad.

“I don’t wanna sleep,” Sam says 

This boy could be troubled when the time is crucial, “Sam, Idris is awake, we are going to the hospital. Do you want to come?” That’s the only thing he will say no.

“No, I don’t like hospitals. I will sleep here. Will my babysitter come?” He asks. 

He is smarter than Alex, “Yeah, you go sleep,  Jane will come and watch you,” Alex says. 

He looks at us, “Who will change my dress,” He asks. 

“Um.. Jack, I will change and put him on his bed,” Alex says carrying his son to Sam’s room. 

I ran my hands in my hair frustratingly. The situation is worse than I ever imagined. I have Idris at the same time I don’t have her. She doesn’t know anything and I can’t tell her everything. Why do I have to be in this place? Where I can’t be honest with her and can’t lie to her?

“He is asleep. You’re gonna tell me what the hell happened? Why do you look so… foreign?” Alex asks 

Idris definitely can’t hear us, Sam is asleep, “She forgot everything.” I say

“What do you mean by everything?” He asks. 

“What else meaning you know about ‘everything’?” 

He looks at me in disbelief. It’s almost like he can’t believe it but he can't not believe it. “She has retrograde amnesia,” I say

“What? She has amnesia?” He screams. 

I glare at him, “Keep it down,” I warn him before I nod. 

“She seems to remember me very well, She was enthusiastic as before,” He says. 

It was because she wants to know who she is and her past, and when Alex mentioned he had a lot of things to talk about, she can’t help but want to know about her. She is frustrated every passing second without knowing everything. But what truth I can give that she will accept. 

“Why  didn't you tell her?” He asks after I explained her condition and regained her memory back.

I shake my head, “About our love life or sibling life?” How can I explain her? 

“Your love life, what does it have to be with your sibling life?” He asks. 

”Seriously? Alex,” 

He looks at me like an i***t, “Jack, I know how much you love her. And I’m telling you, she is gonna remember her past or not, she will love you again.” he says. 

I hope it is true, is a new person now,” I say

“Then, it’s easier now,” He says

What does he want to say? “She has fallen in love with you when you were her twin brother but now.” 

“But now what? I’m still her twin brother who loves her more than just a sister,” I say

He nods, “I know, Jack. What I meant was, if she had fallen in love with you when she was aware of it what is gonna stop now?” He asks. 

“Don’t say I should lie to her about our relationship and how it was changed,” I say, I don’t want to lie to Idris in this. 

He looks at me like I’m a kid, “Jack, I promise she is gonna love you no matter what,” He says. 

“Then why should I lie to her,” I say

“Same reason as why shouldn’t tell her anything about you and her yet” He smirks

I don’t want to tell her about it, because I’m not sure how she is gonna react to it... definitely hearing she was in love with her brother and she was living together with him is not the first thing she wants to hear. “Alex, she is not what you think she is, She is… She is like….”

“She is like what? Jack, She is your Idris, always. No matter whether she remembers or not,” He says. 

“Alex, I don’t understand why you are insisting on something you know which isn’t moral,” I say

He chuckled, “Idris Jack would never think this as immoral when it comes to Idris,” He says. I want to punch him until he bleeds. “Jack, Saying you are in love with her does not do any bad for her.” He tries to convince me

“No, Don’t. I don’t say it, I’m gonna do what she wants,” I say, 

He scoffed, “What if she wants you?” 

Then I would be happy, but I will not hide anything about us to her, I didn’t answer him. 

“You don’t have an answer or you know she wants you but you are stubborn to accept it?” He says. 

I wish she remembers everything and wants me, “I don’t know, I never thought she would forget everything when she wakes up,” I admit. 

“Jack, You shouldn’t hide your love for her,” He says. 

I know, but do I have a choice on that now, “I know,” 

“And you don’t do anything about it?” He asks. 

I stayed silent, “Promise me you don’t spill a word about our relationship,” I ask.

“Why would I?” He asked 

“Alex, I’m serious,” I said

He sat on the chair, “So am I,” He said, I know he is serious. 

“Alex, Don’t you dare say that Idris and I were..”

He laughed, “Idris is not dumb, amnesia or not, She would have already figured out that you and she were in a relationship by how much you care for her in the past few hours, how happier you are to see her again, how much you love her,” He said.

“It doesn’t mean she loves me too,” 

He groaned, “Leave it, You are gonna see it. I’m sure she is gonna fall in love with you again even if you hide how much you both loved each other,” 

I hope so, “Then I have to wait for that day,” I have waited for more than seven years to hear her voice, to see her awake. I could wait a little longer to get her back. 

“I’m not giving any word,” He says, When I give him a warning look, “What are gonna say about you and her?” He asked

“I don’t know, I need time, she needs it most until then I can bluff,” I know I can’t bluff for more than two days, She was asking too many questions since she opened her eyes. At some point, she gave up or she knew that she couldn't get any word from me, so she kept quiet. But that doesn’t stop her curiosity about knowing about me. Alex stood up when he heard glass fell broken, “Sam was asleep,” he mumbled.

I ran to see anything happen to Idris, Idris was standing there, there was a broken vase next to her, She has some papers in her hand, the one I don’t want her to see it. She looks shocked, confused even. 

“I can…” 

She looks at me confused, “How?... You and…” She looks at me, searching for something, anything. She looks at my finger, and me again, “How do we share the same surname?” She asks. 

“I…. We….” 

“You and I weren’t married. Then the name??” She doesn’t think we could be twins, I wish she figured that out. 

“You were about to,” Alex says.

“Alex,” I warn him. 

He walked past me, “Who is gonna tell her everything, brother?” He smirks. 

Idris looks even more confused now, “Don’t listen to him. If you want to know anything, I will answer you,” I say honestly. He is right, I can't hide anything from Idris for long. 

She looks at me and Alex, “If you and I aren’t… Why do we share the same name? Why did he call you brother?” She asks. 

“Because he is my brother,”  Alex says, I swear I’m gonna... “Little brother,” He adds. 

“Idris, Listen to me,” I try to gain her attention.

She looks at Alex, “You are Hunter?” She asks. 

“No,” I blurted.

She looks at Alex, “Can you make him go away?” She asks Alex. 

No, No. no, Don’t hate me. I beg her in my head, “Idris. I…” 

“Just please.” She says not looking at me. I gave Alex a death glare but it doesn’t stop him from grinning. She gave me no choice but to leave her alone with Alex. I curse at myself for letting him here. He was a good friend, and like a brother to me till this evening, Now he knows Idris is awake, he is playing with me.
