Madeline’s belief that these humans were all NPCs, pre-programmed to act in certain ways, was an easy way to answer all the difficult questions and keep her conscience clean, but Aaron had seen too much to just dismiss these people as bots. He knew he couldn’t be with these people forever. This world wasn’t real and he didn’t belong here. But for now, he chose to listen to his conscience and do the right thing.
After a long spell of introspection, he was ready to give Madeline the only answer he could come up with. “I don’t know what’ll happen once we leave. Maybe they’ll figure out a way to deal with their own problems or maybe I’ll realise that there’s nothing more I can do for them, but for now I wanna repay them for what they’ve done for me.”
