"The five kingdom classification includes Monera, Protista,..."
As Mr. Smith continues to explain the kingdoms of classification, my eyelids begin to droop.
Just as I was about to give in to the temptation to sleep, someone poked me from behind. I abruptly wake up and silently thank the person who woke me up. I turn to look at my best friend, Lia.
"What?" I whisper lightly.
"You just missed the hottest meat in school." she says sadly.
I frown in confusion. "Who are you referring to Cordelia?"
She glares hard at me and I laugh silently. Here's the thing about Lia; she hates being called by her full name since the last few days. Don't ask me why.
"You know how much I hate being called that." she says in anger.
"You refer to it as if it's a taboo or something."
"It's not a taboo. I just don't like it." she shrugs.
"Since the last few days?" I ask suspiciously.
She shrugs in response.
Something tells me she's hiding something.
"Anyway, back to the guy you were talking about. Who were you talking about?" I ask.
"Brant Richmond." she says in excitement, her eyes lighting up.
I shiver involuntarily. Brant Richmond is Prescott High's bad boy. Which means, he wears a stupid leather jacket, rides a stupid motorcycle and is involved in God knows what illegal affairs.
But he's extremely hot!
Why are you so excited, subconscious? You can't even date him because you're not a person. How funny would it be if my subconscious dated a hot bad boy.
I laugh loudly at my inner joke, unfortunately grabbing Mr. Smith's and rest of the class' attention.
"Any problem there, Ms. Fleming?" he asks in monotone.
"N-no sir. I'm o-okay." I stutter.
He shrugs and goes back to explaining kingdom classification.
I sigh in relief. Sometimes, it helps to score the best in class.
"What was that?" Lia whispers.
"Nothing." I shrug and go back to dozing off.

"Guys, it's movie night at Em's today." Lia announces as soon as we reach at our usual table in the cafeteria.
"Cool. I'll bring the movies." Veronica shrugs.
We, as in me, Lia and our other friend Hannah, exchange a look.
The thing about Veronica is, she has the worst taste when it comes to choosing movies.
"Uh, I guess, I can just about manage the movie department, Veronica." I say hesitantly.
She shrugs, "Fine by me."
We, except Veronica, sigh in unison.
"Will it be okay, Em?" Hannah asks in concern.
I smile, "I guess."
Hannah is the type of friend you need in your life. She's always there when you need her and never complains. She is extremely sensitive and cares for everyone. Even a bigger good girl than me.
Like that's possible.
Shut up, subconscious.
That's why Veronica and Hannah get along better. They're like fire and ice. Opposites attract, I guess.
"Look who just entered the cafeteria!" Lia exclaims.
I raise my head to look who she was talking about.
Brant Richmond in all his bad boy glory.
Black leather jacket. Check.
Cocky persona. Check.
Sexy smirk. Check.
Hotness overloaded. A big, fat check.
"Guys, I think I should get going. I have something to discuss with Ms. Taylor." I say, getting up and gathering my stuff.
"Sure but have you eaten anything yet?" Veronica asks.
"Yeah. See you." I leave the cafeteria.
I let out a sigh of relief that my best friends never notice that whenever Brant and me are in the same room, I always leave the room. I don't even know why. Maybe because that guy has trouble written all over him.
Just as I am about to leave the cafeteria, I'm tempted to look Brant's way.
'Don't look, keep walking. Don't look, keep walking,' I murmur to myself over and over like a mantra.
But, eventually, I give in to the temptation and look in his direction to find him looking directly at me.
Once he catches my eye, he smirks. I immediately turn around and walk swiftly out of the cafeteria.
That was just amazing. Not.
