Chapter Four

Aurora's point of view I raced through the woods, my hair flowing behind me and the wind waved it. I stopped in the middle of the woods and I looked around. The silence and the cold wind made the hair behind my neck stand. Humberto had given me an assignment. It had been a month of consistent training. This isn't my first assignment though, but I believe it is the last. He asked me to fight off the largest pack of rogues in the area. They were the deadliest and strongest, even as I held my stance and stared around with so much valor, I couldn't help but feel a bit scared. But I can't chicken out now, I have come so far already. I knew the rogues were around somewhere, I just needed to call their attention. I went on all fours and shifted into my wolf. ‘I love these games’ I heard Naya, my wolf say, and I smiled to myself. She had been so sad since our mate rejected us, she felt better about anything we were training or fighting. I let out a loud howl. And suddenly I heard the rustling of dried leaves. I nodded to myself. Game on. Soon I was surrounded by fifteen rogues, three females were in their midst. They looked heftier and sturdier than the other rogues I had fought in the past. I shifted back into my human form and stared at them meanly. “Look what we have here,” the one who seemed to be the leader said as he walked up to me and touched my hair. I gulped, the stench coming from them was horrible, I wrinkled my nose and stepped away from him. “Such a pretty, you will be our meal tonight,” another said and threw his head back in laughter. I extorted my face in disgust. “Are your minds as dirty as your bodies or worse?” I growled at them from under my breath. They were stunned by my courage, they threw themselves shocked looks. The leader growled and yelled at me, “You dare, you talk back at us.” I snapped my neck and turned to them, “Enough of all this talk, I have come to send you all packing from these woods.” The leader rushed towards me and threw his fangs at me. I easily stooped low and his claw went over my head. I kicked him in the groin, which made him step back. The other rogues' jaws dropped, they immediately growled in anger and charged towards me. I twirled and stepped on one's shoulder as I jumped up in the air. They all collided with each other and I quickly zapped towards them, easily clawing at them. Within a few minutes, they were on the ground groaning in pain. I stood over them and with a smirk, I asked, “Are you rogues going to leave these woods or now?” I looked around to find the leader, but he was nowhere to be seen. I immediately felt a rush of air behind me. I turned to see the leader, whose claw was almost at my throat. I dodged and fell back on my butt. I tried to crawl away. He wore an evil tone as he lunged towards me, he was almost at me when an arrow spiraled past his ear. “Get out now!” A loud growl that shook the woods made him chicken out, and he raced away, his wounded pack rushed after him. I fell flat on my back as my chest heaved up and down with my eyes closed. “That was close,” I said and slowly opened my eyes to see Humberto staring down at me with a frown, his hand crossed over his chest. “I always asked you to be careful, didn't I? What if you got hurt?” Humberto scolded me with a worried look on his face. I smiled, “But you are always there to save me. How would I get hurt?” I stretched out my hand to him, and he helped me up. “You passed today's test, but you nearly got hurt because of your negligence.” I jumped up in excitement and suddenly crouched as I held my tummy. “I am famished, that's enough for today, please.” Humberto ruffled my hair and smiled at me, “This is the last test, now we have to move to the next stage of our mission.” I am stronger now, more powerful and beautiful. I am sure it would be hard for my enemies to recognize me with just one look. * * I stood on the terrace looking up at the sky, my mind drifted back to my pack. The betrayal, the pain, the hurt, the loss. Something tells me that they had a hand in that attack in the forest. I know deep down that I lost my child all because of them. I closed my eyes as a tear trickled down my cheeks. A touch on my shoulder made me flinch. I breathed in sharply and held my breath when I perceived Humberto’s scent. It has been a month since we made love in the kitchen. I think it is because he wanted me to focus on my training, but so he had his distance from me. But now that I am done with my training, I wish he could look at me like that again. I wiped the tears off my cheek quickly, and he rubbed my arms, “I know you are crying… you don’t need to hide it.” I smiled, “You can read my mind, can’t you?” I faced him and rested my back on the railings. He nodded with a smirk as he inched closer to me, “Of course… you are my mate…” “Am I?” He raised a brow and nodded. I sighed. “Why do you look sad?” Humberto asked me. I raised my gaze and locked eyes with him, “What happened that night in the kitchen…” He looked away from me, biting his lips, “It was a one-time thing, Aurora, do not think about it.” I held my breath as I felt a pang in my chest. His words hurt so badly. “What if I don’t want to forget about it?” He turned to me and gritted his teeth, “Aurora, you need to focus on your training.” I furrowed my brows, “I am done with my training, remember? I have been quiet all this while because of my training… but now what?” He breathed out and closed his eyes, “We have a mission, remember, we need to give you back your rights and punish all those who have caused you pain.” I licked my lips and took his hand, “Humberto… what about us? We are mates?” He took my hands out of his and cupped my face, “Aurora… I am not the guy for you.” “Why?” I asked. He pecked my forehead, “You’ll find out soon.” I sighed and rolled my eyes, “Is there someone else?” I looked down silent.’ I smiled, “Cool… you don’t have to tell me… I promise not to disturb you about this mate bond, ever again.” He balled his fist and closed his eyes, still looking away. “Good night, then.” I gritted my teeth as I walked away. I am such a fool. Why did I talk to him first? I scratched the back of my head as my face turned red. “Aurora,” I halted, but I didn’t turn to him. “There is no one else.” I nodded and continued to walk away, a soft smile crawled up on face as I walked down the corridor. I froze immediately after I got to my room. I could sense a presence in the house. Humberto and I had been the only ones in this house for weeks now. Anger crept up my chest as my heart throbbed heavily. I stepped towards the steps slowly, and I saw a female silhouette of a figure standing by the entrance. She was dressed like an assassin. Images of that assassin in the woods that night flashed through my mind and I gritted my teeth. Did Tamia or Liam find out about my whereabouts? I flew down the stairs in an instant and held the assassin by her neck, ready to attack. “Aurora No!!”
